You can't discount every player that is 30+, the fact that Roma can afford to buy him tells you his wages can't be that steep to afford and at just 25 million it seems a sensible short term solution to a need to strengthen our defence compared to paying 90 million for Maguire.
It's always easier to get rid of deadwoods when we are doing well. Their perceived values are much higher.
