We've now sold Fellaini in Jan, let Herrera leave for free, Pogba is linked with Juve & Real Madrid, Matic is linked with Inter and AC Milan and now Fred is linked with Roma.

Could we start the season with McTominay, Garner & Pereira? Maybe add SMS, Bruno Fernandes & Longstaff?

It would be quite a turnover.
Tis grand, Big Phil to midfield.

Losing Fred would mean absolutely nothing to the club, I forgot he even existed.

I thought he started to settle as the season went on. He only ever looked good though if he was playing with McT.

The only one I'd be inclined to keep is Pogba and even that might be detrimental to our fortunes. getting rid of all and bringing in the extra 3 you mentioned would at least make things interesting and show a plan of some sort.

If we could get some decent money for Fred, I'd let him go.
He may turn out good, and this season is deffo make and break for him, but his first touch, for a midfielder was awful last season.

I know we're short in midfield, but theres options out there. We could rebuild the midfield with the Pogba money alone... If the club wants to that is

Even if he did regain form, how much will strikers (who are usually always paid the most) be asking in a couple of years time? Then the midfielders?

Then if we get McGuire at 80million quid, how much will other defenders be asking for in a few years time -- plus when we have a Darmian or Rojo on crazy salaries who can barely cobble together a dozen starts between the two of them in the last two seasons.

We could be on Arsenal-type transfer budgets (albeit self-imposed) in a few years time due to our wage constraints and FFP.

A line in the sand has to be drawn now -- we can have stratospheric wage bills if we are winning the CL every other year, then I wouldn't care. But we have the 2nd highest wage bill in the world -- or at least top 5, depending on who's counting -- but have we been a world's top 5 team for all that money spent?

United like most football clubs strives to be a profit-making organisation. We ain't a charity for sure. Therefore, the bottom-line of any organisation rest upon its CEO.

Very interesting topic. You make valid points. I think wages are spiralling out of control but I think if someone has been here for years and consistently put in decent performances they deserve to be paid accordingly, which I think De Gea has except for the blip last year.

Not sure how much Maguire is going to be on should he come, hopefully not crazy money wages as if other defenders come they will know how much we are willing to pay and may ask for even more. Agree about the salaries of Darmian and Rojo and would like to see both go.

Regarding your comment about our wage bill, it is something that annoys me. Mediocre players should not be on high wages but the problem is we have given such high contracts to players we are finding it hard to offload them as other teams are not willing to pay them what we do. Any team that pays the second highest wages in the world should expect to have a team performing like one of the best teams in the world in the world. I dread us ever having a budget like Arsenals due to wage restraints and FFP.

I think a lot of this down to Woody for giving players wages they don't deserve but I think that may be one of his chief negotiating tactics that we will pay higher wages than most teams, which is a shame.

We are in a mess and I'm not sure what we can do about it?

Should get the under 16 involved too.

Those wanting Fred sold are absolutely mental considering our problems in midfield already.

Hope this doesn't happen as we are low on numbers already. Although he didn't do particularly well last year. I think he deserves having the benefit of the year to adjust to the league. Expecting a big improvement next season, if not I think we should ship him out at the end of next year.
I'd rather these players stay than leave with us picking up the tab

Yeah I went straight to the United store to look for it. No joy. They often have training wear that doesn't get sold.

Shame, albeit its hard to tell but from what I can see it looks nicer than any proper jersey they have done for us. (Not a high benchmark I know)

I liked what I saw of Fred at times last season, he's another that would get a clean slate with me after the debacle of Mourinho last season.

TBF I posted it as I wanted in on some of the transfer tweets action. The article doesnt seem very solid, even if Ole doesnt fancy him, letting him go on a free loan and subsidising his wages for a couple of years for Roma? Not going to happen. If this is real wtf is wrong with Italian clubs that they think they can even suggest this kind of shit deal.

Fred probably should have a chance to show his worth this season. At any rate we are so thin in midfield we can't really sell when we already need 2-3 midfielders.

Thinks for posting anyway. Some are a load of sh!te but some do have substance once in a while. They are cheeky as feck trying to get him by offering us that. It is so bad that even so-called lesser clubs have the audacity to think they can mug us off and it p!sses me off mate.

Good. If we were winning things, we can expect to over-pay. But it will be a few years before we start competing at the highest levels.

We can't be paying for champagne prices but only drinking beers.

Sorry but that's completely the wrong way round. Clubs overpay because they have a need to be met and can be held to ransom, when we were on top we never desperately needed any player.

Fact of the matter is clubs know we're desperate so the price reflects the demand. We can adopt the transfer tactics of smaller clubs signing potential but that takes away the advantage all top clubs have to instead rely on being better scouts/coaches.

What happens to Griezmann now? He has burnt bridges at Atletico..

You reap what you sow. Think he's still gonna get his move through a loan, but they'll have to pay interest. I believe the problem for them is that they have to pay it in one large sum, or the club has to be willing to negotiate with them with regards to the release clause payment plan.

Either way, it looks bad for the both of them. Mes que un club.

This is the exact opposite of what's supposed to happen. We should be paying whatever clubs want for the right players. Then next year we won't be held to ransom because we're already set. As it is, we need 4 new first team additions. And if Lukaku and Pogba go we'd need six new players. That's not buying from a position of strength. Negotiations 101. Start with the right hand and we can be clever. Start with our current losing hand and we just have to give other teams the money.

Maybe if we had invested properly over the last two seasons we wouldn't be in this mess. But to say we won't overspend now is a disgrace. We must spend. We must pay whatever it takes and then that will bring in more money next year when we get back into the champions league. As it is we're not getting close to 4th.

The only way Fred goes is if we have Lemina and someone else lined up to replace him. In my opinion what I saw of Fred last season Lemina is a superior player so that would be his direct replacement.

I'd expect some real quality to fill the boots of Herrera though, I wasn't Anders biggest fan but he didn't half put a shift in. I would like a real quality player to take that spot.

Oh Arsenal, have a limited budget but spent 20 odd mil on a player then loan him back.
Everybody's happy with this deal, this summer's budget should not be affected, Saint-Etienne gets one more year of him and he can gain more experience in the first team.
No idea if he's worth those 30 million though.

"Ole's at the wheel, tell me how good does it feel, to sell Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Fred ..."

Interesting.. Lazio might be interested in Andreas..

Didn't he just sign an extension?

And about Barca.. how can they be in that position and still talk about getting Neymar? Sounds like bs

Maybe Ole was just testing the market with his we don't have to sell line.

It enticed everyone in apparently.

There's no real speculation about Neymar. PSG have said they only had a tentative enquiry and got the feeling the money isn't there. They could try and ditch Dembele and Countinho on them I guess.
