Reckon Atletico would be smart to try and sign Bale on a two year loan deal from Madrid (with Madrid paying most o his wages).
Why do people assume that Madrid will be interested in a loan deal where they pay majority of the wages? What do they get from that? Their problem now is that they don’t want him and he’s in very high wages, so there’s no point in sending him away on loan with Madrid playing most of his wages. If a loan deal does happen, Madrid won’t pay more than 25% if his wages

We'll see how he develops. But my point was that we're apparently spending 30m on Longstaff, and we're okay to see how he develops. Why not spend 40 on a guy who is proven in the league, has played internationally and is only a year older? I just don't understand anything about our transfer policy, and the fact that Leicester and teams like that complete these deals so easily is baffling.
Aye, I guess time will tell how they develop. It's actually the first time in a while I am not too disappointed about us signing some promising youngsters. But yeah, our transfer policy has been a shambles since SAF left.

My thoughts exactly although Longstaff better not cost 30m. Tielemans is a very good player and someone I would take 100 times over SL. But I guess we are sticking to the British model, which I believe we are using to keep our players from wanting to leave us if we stay crap. Pesky foreigners wanting to play for better clubs, how dare they.

Plus we should also buy him to feck over Leicester for those Maguire prices being quoted.

Will be an interesting summer and currently we are no better in my opinion. We impoved at RB but have are worse in midfield.

He's a lazy cnut and he gets injured all the time. He would hate Simeone and vice-versa. Plus, Real are not going to pay him to play on the other side of town at a team that's finished above them the last two seasons and may very well do again next.

I think Longstaff would be a good signing, and if its based on Fletcher's recommendation, and his performance against City, it represents a very clever signing. Now we are out of CL we can't easily beat out other top clubs for any player we want, and most of the top targets people want are also wanted by league winning clubs. So we have to buy clever. James was a great example of this. Also, if the FA really do reduce the number of foreigners per team from 17 to 12 after Brexit, then other teams may be in big trouble and forced to sell foreign players cheap and buy the Remaining British talent at even more inflated prices. This is a good insurance policy of a strategy. Having said that, we are still linked with Ben Yedder, Olmo, Fernandes so its not like we are after only British players. Missing out on Rabiot was unfortunate, but don't see how we can compete with Juve to attract players, and we may well see De Ligt join them over us too. If we end up with Longstaff, Fernandes, Maguire, Ben Yedder and Olmo, then that is an awesome window considering the circumstances.

James Ben Yedder Olmo
Pogba Bruno
Longstaff
Shaw Maguire Lindelof AWB
De Gea

Expect this team by season's end, if we sign those players.

There was one reliable jurno that reported yesterday that we haven't made any offers with the club or player nor have we spoke to his agent so all this Fernandes talk is crap

There is no tier system on the Caf. There's a ban list, on which Schira should arguably be on, but there is no tier system.

Better than paying 100% of the wages and getting the same use out of him? 25% of €600k is €150k a week, over two years that's over 15m, of course they'd be interested, maybe not to Atletico as @Inter Yer Nan said.

Madrid are committed to a contract that if to be believed is £600k a week. Thats in essence a sunk cost as they say they don't want Bale in the team. I'm sure there is a balance, but they might genuinely rather use a youth player as backup than Bale in which case as backup backup the value of that is small, maybe £50k a week.

Thus anything over that is effectively profit when comparing to the opportunity cost.

His value on a loan is thus the max a team is willing to pay for a world class but injury prone player. The Sanchez situation is a very public warning of not over investing in a player with limited longevity as the risk of a poor ROI is high.

The net result is probably that most sensible teams won't want to invest more than say £200k, 1/3 of his salary, maybe £250k if you take into account no loan fee. £300k max for the biggest teams, but that's a serious investment for no return beyond one years on field performance and whatever is achieved as a result of that.

I don't think Madrid find many buyers thinking £450k a week (23.4m a year plus add on costs on top of that) is worthwhile for a player scoring just 14 goals in 42 games, having previously showed signs of injury proneness in previous seasons (albeit a little over stated when you look at total appearances over his career).

Potentially Losing Pogba, Lukaku & Hererra in one window doesn't sound ideal for United. What's the Caf's thoughts if those three were to leave this summer?

Gotta laugh but Rodri was an obvious one. We're going around offering 70m for Maguire but not potentially the best CDM of the next 10 years. Well done Pep and City. Great signing and still value for money.
This doesn't make sense, if a player doesn't want to sign for you, throwing money at club is pointless.

Lukaku and Herrera aren’t good enough anyway so not bothered at all. Pogba would be a loss but it’s also not like he’s been an absolute monster for us either. He’ll be offered a new contract let’s see.

We should make a 2 year loan bid for Bale.. 50% of the wages..

There is no way Madrid would accept it... just for a laugh.

Fine with Lukaku leaving, the other two less so. Losing Pogba when we have so many gaping holes already and with no obvious replacement on the market would be especially awful.

Lukaku - is not a major problem. Herrera for free is bad. Pogba I would like to keep - but Pogba can practically finance 2 quality signings. Which is good for a player who doesnt want to be here.

But if Pogba goes - I expect us to get 2 quality players in.

I'll miss Herrera, he was a good player. Great attitude - should have been our captain for me - and just about the only player in this often lifeless team I felt any kind of connection to.

Lukaku's a strange one mentally, seems to talk the talk an awful lot and then do feck all on the pitch. Don't think he's suited to us, happy for him to go.

Pogba I think would be fantastic in one of fergies teams, surrounded by strong leaders. He isn't a leader and is not the guy to drag us out of this mess. I'd like him to stay ideally, if he's truly committed to the club, but I don't think he is in my heart if hearts.

Disastrous with the players we are linked with.

It would obviously depend on who the replacements were. I think it's quite possible to upgrade on all three players, but I'm not wholly convinced we would actually manage to do it.

At the start of the summer, potentially, we were looking to add RB, RW, CB, CM and CDM. We were always aware of Herrera leaving. Now throw into the mix, the possibility, of Pogba, Lukaku and De Gea leaving. De Gea is less likely, though if he's not signing that extension, I'd rather we sell than a free next summer. A lot of positions to potentially fill, something that can't be done within one transfer window. Again, this all merely hypothetical.

It's going to take a few years at least before we have a decent competitive team. I certainly don't mind taking 2 steps back to enable a proper fresh rebuild. The rebuilding looks to be an exciting project, unfortunately it takes time. Just hope we get a decent CB who wants to play for the shirt and not the wages. I would love a RW this window too, not a player that 'can do a job' there, I want a specialist. But hey ho

We'll never know I guess. If he would've came. A release clause is a release clause. Had we coughed up like City have it may have happened. Young and hungry player.

Well agreeing a release clause is with the selling club. However, there is also a player's wish to join whatever team he wants. For example, De Ligt had his release clause met by multiple teams (including us, if Reddit ITKs are to be believed). Its who he decides to join thats important.
