Roll on August, can't wait to see how the squad will actually look, I dont think it will much different than last season, some of the tweets have been hilarious especially the Harry McGuire were one second we are in the lead then hours later it's city who are favourites. Not to mention early on when people were tipping utd to sign De Ligt, truth is nobody knows and 99% of itk talk crap. Rant over

Because he's had a tiny amount of first team action, and even someone like Rashford hasn't hit 20 a season.
Unless you rate Greenwood way above Rashford?

You said he wouldn't get 20 in total though. Whilst I have hopes of Greenwood being absolutely amazing and having as good a shot as anyone at getting over 20 goals a season, I'll admit there's a small chance he won't do it. But 20 in total? I've got next to no doubt about that.

Hope you're right chief.
He could have had about 5 in that defeat to Cardiff in fairness.

Lets fecking do it. Better than signing no one. Overpaying by at least 30m here but thats better than spunking 30-40m quid on a shite CB or worse going into the season with no new CB. Maguire is a class player not worth that much but he's still class.

This is where I am too. Do it.

Maybe I'll be crucified for saying this (and possibly thread banned) but the state of this thread lately. It's incredible. Only a few people are looking objectively at the articles and thinking interesting but is it likely, or a journalist trying to drum up a non-story or just what I want to hear?

Some people in here are taking it for gospel that we're in for x player or y player when in previous years the media had no idea on our actual signings until negotiations were near the end. Sometimes there were protracted sagas (Pogba) and maybe I'm being forgetful but how many others dragged on? I'm also pretty confident that we haven't gone anywhere near the likes of Fernandes all summer (remind anyone of Gaitan?) or even Maguire. There's a big chance journalists are making lazy links or foreign media/clubs are trying to push transfers and supporters in here is using it as an excuse to attack the club.

Even looking at the De Ligt story - what solid link have we actually had that relates us to De Ligt? Personally I'd rather not sign a 19 year old defender for the ridiculous fee and wages being mentioned, and I imagine some on here who would are the same ones who'd turn on him the moment he didn't deliver game-defining moments at the back anytime we drop points. Memphis Depay was a sure thing before he came to the Premier League, wasn't he? And Sanchez was definitely worth the wages on swap with Mkhi when we signed him according to most on here.. whoops.

Then people say "this must be a briefing from the club" or "they're managing fans' expectations". Or maybe a journalist has decided to generate a huge clickbait article, such as we only have £100m to spend this summer, and other journalists have decided to join the bandwagon not to miss out on the clicks?

Personally I'm hoping the club have some hidden gems that they're targeted which the media are yet to pick up on and it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case - it's seemingly always been the way. But in the meantime can we at least have some sense here to discuss transfer tweets without taking them for complete gospel and making this thread ridiculously depressing to read?

So Solskjaer has picked up the phone to some journo and said "I've just told my CEO to get a move on with the Fernandes transfer" OR Woodward has done the same thing but said "I've just had a call from the manager to speed up the Fernandes deal. Better get cracking!"

Or are the phones/emails tapped??

Is that how these stories work?

Ole better check if there is somebody hiding in his wardrobe.

It's a shift in our perception. The effort it takes to thoroughly read something, digest it and formulate a well thought response is beyond the ability of most folks. Especially if it's different than our existing beliefs. The time and discomfort it takes to consider an alternate idea and find common ground is too much.

I'm at fault of it myself. Much too often. And it scares me. Things like Twitter and Instagram lend to it. Quick triggers that satisfy an addiction. Ads and content are targeted to your preferences to stim that chemical release , compared to things that require thinking and processing.

So coming back to the forum and the reactions - most people don't read the links on these tweets. They go off of the title or click bait summary. They then react based on what they already believe is the current status of the club and say, our appeal to players. Now more than ever ,self deprication of the club seems the resounding norm.

Good post.

God I’d love to have your optimism - and that is genuine, not a dig or anything. I wish I had that amount of faith left in the leadership of this club.

Have to agree with a large portion of this, the negativity I've stressed myself personally has been to do with the factual evidence that we have only signed one player. The perception is so bad at the moment the media are picking up on it and are creating waves from headlines.

Im pretty sure that it came from the club officially (or Solskjaer) that we would likely be after players we are not linked with in the media. The most prominent news since Ole's reign has always come from official briefings via the club. We have no "mouth piece" with the last likely being castles who has contacts with Jose. I prefer the silence to mass media coverage, all it does is socialise the club's business to the public, which is why whenever we have been credibly linked we are quoted ridiculous prices for players.

Just a reminder to everyone that Coventry City used to be in the Premier League and have a wide following!
