I think because they're saying Manchester United should never have to sell to buy. But I'd sell Lukaku anyway and add his 75m to the current budget. Greenwood is already a better player.

Greenwood is a better player than Lukaku. Only on Redcafe.

I would be more than happy to swerve Slabhead. There's no way anyone can convince me it's either him or no one. You wonder how any other team not named Manchester United target and sign players for positions they need.

For the people saying good, who do we sign?

The same Eric Bailly, Lindelöf-esque names will be thrown out. Appears loads on here prefer United to take a punt rather than pay a fee they see as excessive.
Weird really, I’m sure the same fans scream blue murder about the Glazers sucking money out of the club.

I give zero shits how much we pay for players, if the manager wants them and the transfer committee agree, get them in!

Maybe he’ll be a huge success and we’ll regret it.

Or maybe he’ll flop and Liverpool will win the league next season.
So what's your logic, to buy him to stop him being a success or Liverpool to win the league?

I'm being slightly facetious. But Greenwood would have buried many of the chances given to Rom. With coaching and a year in the first team, I think he'll be a 20 goal a season player consistently.

Wow that's faith.
Id be amazed if greenwood ever gets 20 a season.
Id be surprised if he scores 20 for us in total

We turned down the chance to buy Maguire for silly money 12 months ago. I seriously doubt we will go back again. It would be like Woodward admitting he got it wrong last summer.

Elvedi, Akanji, Diallo, Andersen, Demiral, Upamecano, Konate, Godfrey, Hermoso, Milenkovic. Depending on who is actually available.

I've seen limited minutes of all these players but in those minutes I've seen all of them display terrible defending that would be held against Maguire until day he died on here.

I've seen a bit more of Akanji and Diallo and they are very suspect defensively. The were absolutely abysmal when they got beat 5-0 by Bayern in the title run in. It was either Zagadou or Diallo who had a truly shocking game. Can't remember which. Akanji is good going forward though.

It would be a very strange situation to ignore the chance, and then go higher a year on, when if anything Maguire's stock has fallen, post world cup.

Although you could say it was correcting a mistake.

That was Zagadou. Got taken off at half-time, if I remember it correctly. Would be happy for us to sign him though. He's a very good prospect. Diallo and Akanji had very good first seasons at Dortmund and it was their first title race in a big European league, I think what they did was impressive. Godfrey has received Ferdinand's seal of approval. He probably knows a thing or two about defending. The point of them is that they would be cheaper than Maguire and at the very least are as talented as him. Maguire is simply not worth what Leicester are asking IMO.

I don't think you can say that they're at least as good as him as fact, it's only an opinion. I think Maguire is going to City anyway. He'd be crazy to join us over them at this point in time. It's seemed to me that's where he's been going all along.

I didn't say they are as good as him. I said they are as talented as him. We aren't going to compete with City next season anyway, but we need to make steady improvements and those players could help along the way.

That's real weird logic. What's the point in signing anyone in that case?

In our case? In our current situation? Without proper vision and clearing up the rotten squad? Getting new players wont matter, newcomers will be turned into rot after few games and we will have same discussion like now in a year time, thats just me.

Dont tell me you think that his path of development and performances will be the same regardless of him joining us or City. Since SAF retired, name me one player we bought that we improved, helped him develop and raised its value. Anyway wont go further into discussion, dont want to be thread banned.

Yes. You would expect him to do better at City because they are a cohesive unit. But he won't be able to look good there without being very talented, nor would Pep be buying him if he didn't think he was. In fact it appears that Pep wants him because of how well he's performed against them. It was a metric of ability that Fergie liked to use too.

But I agree, lets not get thread banned.

So you can add Liverpool to the teams that the Portuguese media/Sporting have used to desperately scare us into a bid.

They've tried it with City, Spurs, Atletico already. Each attempt to no avail. It is Liverpool's turn now.

I can only see us signing Fernandes if Pogba leaves. As it looks like that deal could take a while to go through (if it does), then Liverpool will have a clear run if they want him.

I've watched him many times and watched probably hundreds of youth team games both live at the ground and on tv. Greenwood is the biggest talent at that level since Giggs. I'm not involved in football. And you obviously can't guarantee anything about mentality or injuries. But given his current trajectory, if Greenwood doesn't make it, then we might as well close the academy.

The entire Bruno Fernandes thing feels like his agent desperately trying to find anybody willing to bid for him.
