Why not? He looks like a superb prospect. Lindelof cost £30 Million and prices have increased since then.
He looks like a prospect but he isn’t worth 54m pounds. I don’t think he has world class potential just like Lindelof and he definitely wouldn’t be a steal at 54m.

I can see this exact thing happening:

1. We buy Maguire for 75m
2. He makes a few mistakes but has a half decent season
3. Leicester replace him with a much better player for 15m.
4. Said player from No.3 happens to be someone like Nathan Collins who most people here were against signing.

.................DDG

AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw

...............New DM

......Rabiot...........Pogba

.............Fernandes

.........Bale........Rashford

Bale on loan with 50% wages?

So overpriced average British players it is. Imagine spending 130 to 150 mill on Maguire and AWB

When you pay £75m for a centre back you want an absolute Collosus, not someone who is slightly better than what we have.

Maguire n Lindelof would be so suspect to pace too. Can't see that working out for us.

Tuanzebe or Bailly would have to partner him

Why do we want Maguire? He's not De Ligt or Koulibaly level, and he's not going to make us better with just one good World Cup...

Because De Ligt doesn’t want to join us. They want 150mil release clause for Koulibaly who isn’t worth that. And anyone else on there level are already at top clubs.

Both of them being limited and not good at everything kind of players
Yup, but hey at least they are British and hungry. 75 mill for a CB and 50-60 mill for a RB are the prices for WC players. AWB is poor going forward and poor technically while Maguire isn’t great at anything bar heading and is OK at playing out from the back. But this doesn’t qualify them to be world record players. Again, as I said in another post, we are buying British because we are finding it very difficult attracting players from other leagues. Just look at the timing of this Maguire rumour, right after the rumours of our 84 mill bid for Koulibaly and after Romero said that De Ligt isn’t interested in moving to United.

When did Leicester City gove Maguire a chance? He was already a premier league player with Hull and he wasnt exactly a youngster then (maybe on Lingard years) and I'm sure a lot of posters on here wanted us to buy him then (same as Robertson).

Saw a recent interview from him where he seemed to be grateful to Leicester because:

1. They gave him a chance to stay in the Premier League
2. The bigger one - they gave him a platform to ultimately get into the England side for the WC

At 26, I think he should probably push for a move.

So let's not spend that money on someone that isn't on that level

Koulibaly has a release clause from the 2021 season.

Why on earth would Maguire choose utd over city. Makes no sense if it's a head to head , city have a well established team winning trophies and then we have us , a team that can't beat relegated sides and a toxic atmosphere at a unable club...... Tough decision

It will be soo typical of us these days to sign these two overhyped players for 130m. When we could sign Cancelo (45m) and Alderweirald (25m) for a combined 70m. Both of these two players are better on the ball, plus we could also fill several other holes in the squad, and sign Van de beek (35m) and Ziyech for another 30m (total spent 130m). This will result in us signing 4 players instead of 2 and a far better and balanced squad than shelling out 130m for these two.

Plus the biggest problem i see with them is we will be paying a premium on players with either very obvious weeknesses. Maguire is prone to lack of pace, whereas AWB is average going forward. I can bet Pep would never sign AWB due to his shortcomings going forward and him being technically very average, then when our defenders will be punting foward when pressed against any decent opposition, then they will again be blaming Ole for not having game plan etc.

We need technically sound players who can avoid press and for those players i dont mind us paying premium. For example i won't bat an eyelid if we spend 100m on De Ligt or another 100m on De Jong, as you can actually see their supreme technical ability along with the potential to be world class in next 2 years.

I wouldn't pay over a £100m for any keeper. I would rather see most of the transfer funds spent on outfield players especially with our current issues.

This will sound ludicrous, but I'm so over having our 'keeper be by far our best player.

Let's give someone like Henderson a chance and be disproportionately good in another area of the pitch, just for a change if nothing else.

Would mean we're shipping De Gea out, possibly back to Atletico where he came from. Oblak is a a big all round improvement based on current state of things.

I completely agree, we have both Sergio Romero and Dean Henderson and that is surely enough if we improve in other areas of the team during this Summer Transfer Window. This club is constantly reminding us that it has faith in our own youth products, well if so how about we actually give Henderson a chance considering he has proved himself on loan and we also have a great Goalkeeper in Romero who can step into the position when needed as well.
