Rooney, although he had no right to, spoke about the lack of quality signings under Sir Alex, and looking back, we can all see now and how the managers who have come in have struggled.

I agree that we need 5 or 6 with potential, but if they're quality young players, i.e. Wan-Bissaka, Sancho, Havertz, Felix, Rice, etc then they're all going to cost ridiculous amounts too.

Maybe splash out on a couple of those players, but then after that, its up to our scouting system to try and find some astute signings. Someone like Longstaff is a good example.

Tonali, Ceballos, Ounas won't cost a lot and I feel they will be good buy at cheap price.

Why any player who costs 120m would accept 6m a year is beyond me, then you realise its City and there's probably a bank account being opened up in Panama with this kids middle name on it with an extra 6m a year.

If we have a nightmare transfer window and try to paper over the cracks by bigging up a Bale loan signing I will be officially done with football until we get rid of Woodward and the Glazers.
What about if Bale then went and tore it up?

If the likes of Matic, Smalling, Jones and Young are still on the pitch I don't think even 'last two seasons at Spurs-tier' Bale would be enough to keep us in contention for top four.

And of course, no longevity in papering over cracks with a 30 year old who averages something like 4 serious injuries per season.

True. We need to spend at least 400m on 6 or 7 players and that's before we sell anyone. If we sell Pogba, that in increases to 500m. That's the amount we need to win the league next year and would put us close to city in spending.

AWB makes so much sense. And when you consider his situation (21, British, arguably the best rb in the league last season) £50-55m is a great deal.

Am I the only one who would sooner see dalot rb and spend money elsewhere

Pretty sure Palace sit back most games so how AWB going to be great at attacking? We can’t defend never mind attack so he will be a great buy.

We are in a mess because we have defenders who cannot defend, so it would be an upgrade. As you say he might be able to attack if given the chance.

Valencia was a very good defender up until last season, we were still shite with no attacking threat from the right wing, AWB won’t change that fact.

I’m sorry but he better be some phenomenal defender to be worth that, people laughed at City for buying Walker for 50m, after he was consistently solid for years.
So people are telling me that 55-60m is a good deal for someone who’s been only good for one season so far?

Not buying that.

Why are we so bad at transfers? Bidding 40m for Wan Bissaka is like me going up to Taylor Swift and asking for a date, we know it's going to get rejected!

It is called negotiation

We should just go there and slap £80m on the table and when they say “okay! “ we’ll be well satisfied and not be left thinking “oh, they would’ve probably taken less for him” at all.

60million...lol

Premier League team to Premier League team transfer + English player tax + Manchester United tax

So what are we supposed to do, go in with 60m as our first offer and then have Palace reject it because they think they can squeeze more out us? Any negotiation the first offer is an offer that you know is gonna be rejected but it's merely done to start negotiations. We come in with 40m knowing it might take 60m, hoping it will be 50m.

We aren't bidding for peak Dani Alves it's Wan-Bissaka for God sake get a grip we shouldn't even be targeting him.

Our first bid of 25 mill (according to rumours) was way below par. 40 mill is a fair bid, can't start bidding at 60 million

Get Meunier for 25m, let Wan Bissaka develop another season to see if he is actually worth that price and we give Dalot this season to show if he can step up. Wan Bissaka won't go anywhere else, and 60m will still be crazy money for a fullback that is average in possession and attacking next summer. Meunier can be a shorter term starter and gives Dalot a chance to develop, plus we'd have money to improve the midfield and centerbacks which is incredibly vital we get right.

40m for a right back is a lot of money... It's not like he's world class plus the most expensive fullbacks are the ones that make a big difference in your attack, not the ones who are weak going forward.

Delighted to hear we've bid for AWB. That more or less confirms that we're keen on Sancho as well. James, AWB, Sancho, Maddison? Young, British, Hungry.

40 seems a good bid under the circumstances. 50 percent oils get accepted surely and wouldn’t look ridiculous considering £50m has been hit already by City.

If we go with AWB we will have defensive full backs on both flanks. Tactically that limits us, for example the diamond formation relies on full backs providing the width and crosses. Wonder if this, and James, means that we will have a more traditional United with wingers providing the width.

What makes you think he’ll be available for 60m next summer? If he stays and has as good as or better than last season his price is only going up. He’s a good player and would fit our needs nicely. Sign him now. Honestly, we should be signing him and Meunier and chucking Ashley Young to Everton.
