Oh not again, this one will never go away...
Solskjaer filled the Cardiff squad with mediocre players. Let’s hope history isn’t repeating itself.
I’m all for bringing these youngsters in to develop, but I will be seriously worried if they are seen as three of the four rumoured signings we are making this summer.
We need to make our first 11 stronger and need to do that desperately.
Sorry pal but you’re also on the internet, trying to patronise and throwing out personal insults because you don’t agree. Unless you’re actually the mystery DoF and are actually party to the club’s transfer negotiations?
We have a hell of a lot of work to do this summer I’m sure you can agree, so haggling for weeks over £5m on what should be a squad player is a worrying sign for me.
We should be able to pay it almost immediately and negotiate within a day or two. £15m/£20m is haggling like we are Bournemouth.
I’ve seen no signs that we have capacity to act swiftly in the market which is frankly embarrassing for a club of our stature.
I'm sure people said the same about the likes of Robertson, Henderson, Delle Alli, Wijnaldum, Mane and plenty of others. These are some smart, young signings. If we didn't buy any of these but other clubs did, we would berate our scouts for foaling to identify young, British talent.
We very much seem to be moving towards a spread approach and get the impression we want a range of incoming players, young, hungry, hard working with maybe a couple of more established talents to start building the club in the image we want.
That doesn't happen by focusing on our first 11 each window. In fact, that's very much how we appear to have tried to fix this problem up to the point. Buy a couple of expensive players, if they don't work out, they drop back in the pecking order and are replaced. The cycle goes on and on and we end up with where we are now.
It's reactive as opposed to proactive. What we're doing now is proactive and appears to be with the bigger picture and future in mind
These are some well regarded young talents, not some chumps who are stealing a living. If we wrap these up early days and progress to a few more signings then it will be an excellent summer and a good start to rebuilding.
You set your own expectations and these will shape how disappointed or happy you are with how things go. I don't want to derail the thread but in short, I'm wanting a 3 year plan to bring us back up to where we need. Rome wasn't built in a day and Liverpool didn't change overnight. They spent a hell of a lot of time trying to get it right and we're laughed at for many of their signings - including Van Dijk. City didn't just turn into what they are at the moment. It's been a fairly long project and signings like Silva, Fernandinho, Kompany, Gundogan and others have been smart signings.
If you want to challenge next year, you'll probably be disappointed. 3 years of steadily building the club with younger, promising, hard working players who are desperate to play for the club and supplementing these with some exciting, high profile players who still tick some of these boxes could see us in a very different position in a few years. Don't forget that this could well coincide with both Liverpool and City needing to replace important players and even managers. Football is cyclical and if we play it right, we could have an excellent squad. Just not in one window.
Will save that for the end of the transfer window, when it can be judged whether we’ve sorted out the gaping holes in our squad and shifted the players that shouldn’t even be there. There is a lot to do if we are to compete on any level next season.Well we’ll see won’t we. If it’s all wrapped up before even May is out and it’s not the daft 20m quid that apparently Swansea are now requesting, at least admit then you were melodramatic as feck and haven’t the foggiest how negotiations work.
We are in serious trouble if these players is being bought for the first team.

Suspect that is what will happen, this pursuit has been common knowledge for some time now, wouldn’t take much for a city or Liverpool to come and buy him for £20m immediately, which they might of he’s as good as we hope he is.Wait, you're suggesting to accept the first amount that a selling club gives us? You do realise that will mean the next club we deal with will ask for 30m for the next James.
My guess is Swansea are debating whether it's worth having James for another year helping them get promotion and let him leave on a free or pocket the 15m now.
Their stance would be 20m would make their decision an easier one, while we obviously want to get a decent prospect for a good fee, at the end of it we're probably meeting in the middle and paying 12m with 8m in somewhat realistic add ons. (Martial for instance has only met one of his add ons, making him cheaper, but we would have been much happier if he'd hit this achievements).
I don’t think it is. Most agree we need roughly 6 in, 6 out this summer and we’ve been in mid table form since March so it will take a lot to even challenge for top 4 unless we achieve this. Operating swiftly would be a sign of intent.that's a nope on the melodrama, then.
The business done by Dortmund has been amazing! That's how you work in the transfer market but we're still dithering on Daniel James' fee. I just dont understand how, for a club in such dire need of fresh blood, we can be this lackadaisical.
I want to give you a like but I can't. Quality post. Fully agree with you.

It begs the question though, if he really is this good, why hasn’t anyone swooped in and signed him from under our nose?
When Robben somehow manages to make Carrick pregnant.
He’s a gamble, worth throwing 12-15m on and he’s a project. From his view United simple has to be the most attractive option by an absolute mile.
Only City would be daft enough to spend 20m on him and they don’t remotely need him nor his project.
I hope we buy ten similar projects this summer, as long as it doesn’t stop us from buying bonafide first-teamers
Strootman.
Is Gaitan still playing by the way ?
That’s my feeling. At the minute we look to be signing him on the recommendation of Giggs, Collins in the recommendation of Fletcher, and possibly Longstaff on the recommendation of Carrick, who looks to have a similar playing style (complete guesswork here). It begs the question though, if he really is this good, why hasn’t anyone swooped in and signed him from under our nose?
Fully aware, also aware that we’ll get this done by the end of May, before the Champions League final has even been played. And we’ll do it for a fair fee.
Or... I could be a melodramatic pleb and whine about why it isn’t done yet and expect the club to pay whatever price the seller asks for.
Give it a rest guys.Pleb? You seem like an educated chap. Will be mindful to ignore your opinions in future, moron.

There is the Norwich CB on the recommendation of Rio.

What, two 26 y/o journeymen for £50m?
Honestly the spell that club has over some people. There’s a few others in this thread.

[Francesc Aguilar] The same person who told me that Pep Guardiola had reached an agreement with Manchester City (months before it was public) tells me now that he's on his way to Juventus.

Agreed, imagine how cringeworthy it would be on here if they actually won something. There would be poetry I'm sure of it.
They won't have another season like this one. If they do alarm bells should be ringing out across the world.Hopefully not true. Will set Liverpool to dominate for some coming years.
I don’t believe it for one bit, but Pep benching Ronaldo would be mint. It'll happen one day. He cherry picks the clubs in the best positions in each league. He'll manage PSG and Juve at some point.
The time just isn't now, really can't see it
Yes, yes, go go go, leave now, Big Sam is looking for a job in PL.[Francesc Aguilar] The same person who told me that Pep Guardiola had reached an agreement with Manchester City (months before it was public) tells me now that he's on his way to Juventus.
