Personally come to the point where what with his inconsistency, agent and apparent attitude, tiring of the circus that is Paul Pogba. Would love him to turn things round here with quality additions but bar that three month spell and his first few games, generally havent we been saying that about him for what three or four years now?

More realistically I think he is worth more in a possible transfer fee if it is anywhere near £120-130m than he is as a player for us ad I am not sure that is going to change, regardless of who we sign to play alongside him possibly

Number 10/winger. Sturridge is gone Klopp wants Werner or someone to replace him, Origi is staying put, he'll probably replace Lallana's spot in the squad. If we do end up selling him we should stretch to 20-25m and a buy back clause included (I hope) to Derby/Bournemouth etc.

My worry is we would have him for another season and then he would want to leave but we would not able to sell him on the transfer fee we would like or what he is worth.

Real Madrid can easily tell him to stay another season and they would match the wages as the transfer won’t be as much as was before.

Funny a lot of people seem to be of the opinion of "worth a punt" on some of these young players not really proven at all but then some good semi-established young English players like AWB and Rice for example lots of people are saying they arent good enough, maybe there is a reason for the price tags on them?

Then I keep reading "only been one season and a bit, not proven anything"....Sancho has been playing for a season and a bit in a foreign league but everyone is forning over him. Dont get me wrong, think he looks like a great young player, but AWB and Rice have done just as well in there respective positions as he has at Dortmund.

Be great if we can turn a bargain priced young player into a star, but just how far behind our side is at the moment, why are so few people seeming to want some of the really really good young players already establishing themselves in this country just because they would cost more money?

i havent seen enough of any of the likes of Longstaff, James or the young Sunderland centre back or Godfrey Norwich one to make a judgement or comparison, but the likes of AWB, Rice, Sancho, DeLigt are very much the right profile of players we should be making big moves for this summer

I like rice with good passers around him he would look great. With AWB my issue with this option is that he has a clear deficiency in attack, if shaw was doing well offensively on the other side he would make sense. At this moment its a flip of a coin and hope that AWB drastically improves his offensive play or we will have offensively inept fullbacks on both sides. Its not that people dont want AWB specifically its all about balance. As for Thorgan i think he would be a great squad option for us ahead of someone like lingard who actually starts for us .

Extend it for another 2 years and this way we will surely have him till his 30th.

As long as Zidane remains in charge of Real Madrid, Pogba will be wanted by them and it is in our interest to have the power strength when they come calling the following season.

Let’s revise this again shall we,

Your original post saying: we need backup.

Lingard is the backup! Lingard will stay this summer and he is our no 10 or playing in the same role as Mata, your imagination of him to be sold or rid this summer is unrealistic & fantasy and you should know this.

If you expect Mata to be backup then Lingard will be automatically be our first choice or basically both of them will fight into one spot for XI as per usual. Why the feck we want to have 2 backup players in the squad in the first place.

At the end of the day, this new contract doesn’t make any sense for backup. This only means we fail to get a new attacker for first choice and as per usual we will see Lingard/Mata being rotated.

I shouldn’t be explaining this into detail, it’s not rocket science. :annoyed:

A pretty pedantic ambition when every manager who goes to Juve wins the league with them. He won't be able to play the same level of football he did with Barca, or even City. He won't have the resources or the talent coming through. So go there just to tick a box playing worse footie to win a league where they subscribe to the title. I don't see it.

I think we need to get on top of the contracts for our best players. As soon as they reach two remaining years we should aim to extend, or begin planning to sell if the players have no plans of extending. Waiting until players have less than two years on their deal leaves the club in a weak position in my opinion.

If anything major happened, we'd still have the option of selling him though. Not sure how it could be a negative thing for us to extend.

Interesting signing given he's a high work rate ball winner with 75.5% pass accuracy. Dont think Barcelona have signed someone of that ilk since Mascherano and they converted him to CB. But at 18 maybe he'll change a lot

What are you banging on about. I was saying what I wanted to happen. I want Lingard gone - never said it was likely either, just what I wanted. Anyone who thought I wanted Lingard to start needs their head checked.

You're right you shouldn't have wasted your time.

What am I banging on about? Please think before reply to someone & put on some logic into it.

I’m banging about your post saying “You need a squad you know.”

We have Lingard as a squad player, there is no logic of the club giving Mata an improved deal as a squad player when we already have Lingard who plays in the same role.

Mata is better than Lingard.

I'd prefer have him over Lingard.

So keeping Pogba will be great but if we have the same toss in midfield alongside him how are we going to improve. We need a top class cm and foward also. We were 6th for a reason, a couple of championship players will not change that. We need some top class talent signed. If I were Pogba I would be livid if I had to start alongside McTominay and Matic again next year, its like flogging a dead horse.

Once again, there is no logic in what you are saying and you keep avoiding the original discussion.

The logic here is that Lingard will stay this summer, the club decision to offer Mata a new improved contract to be backup while Lingard is still around doesn’t make sense.

But what we discussing isn’t about what you wanted happen. We are discussing the club’s decision to offer Mata a new contract.

Which doesn’t make any sense with Lingard is still around.

Right system and he’ll score a shit ton of goals for them. His conversion rate is pretty decent. United do not play to his strengths, so he needs to find a club that will, with a manager who has faith in him. I wonder if their offer will be like 50p plus a random player? I very much doubt Inter can afford him and he’ll remain at United as a back up player.
