Jesus is there a much more depressing tweet?! Love the idea of going after young players but surely we can do better than this?

I just said this in another thread, but i was also hoping we'd sign young players with potential, but this has got me worried. I thought we'd get a high calibre with higher chance of success. It's well within the realms of possibility that these guys aren't good enough...where would that leave us? We're apparently chasing 3 players from the championship and 1 from a poor PL side. It's such a huge gamble, it could send us back to the stoneage in our 'rebuild'.

He shouldn't be RW, no. I hope the contract means he will be a squad option at '10'.

And let Lingard be the first choice at no 10? Why do we need 2 squad option quality at no 10. Why can’t we move on from this & Why are we giving anything higher than £140k p/w for squad option.

Depressing old day on the transfer tweets thread. Not sure which story concerns me most. I’m consoling myself that the sources are mostly terrible ( I thought some were banned, but maybe I’m wrong).

James - meh
Ratikic - good signing, could be our “James Milner” signing
Degea- we should not be held to ransom, he’s had his worst ever season for us
Ashley Young as captain - give me a break
Partey - interesting but unlikely to happen

We need 3 or 4 top class defenders, why are we only linked with midfielders and attackers?

I feel more meh about Longstaff than Daniel James but will still back him if Ole decides to bring him in as our DM.

Can't deny I find it strange there isn't concrete interest in Partey/Ndidi.

There have been links to Maguire,Koulibaly and De Ligt but we aren't the most attractive proposition at the moment

This is why Woodward and the club are so dumb. Last summer we finished 2nd. That was the perfect opportunity to invest properly whilst we were in a relative position of strength.

No wonder Mourinho went ballistic.

We done nothing of the sort and now look at us? Left scrambling about in the dark shopping at the armpit end of the market.

Ed Woodward, ladies & gentlemen...

Who's the sucker?

Does anyone know how bad Umtiti's knee injury is supposed to be? Seems like no more than a year ago this guy was one of the most highly rated CB's in football. Now he's available in the bargain basement. Could be worth a punt with some lowball figure for some club. If he gets back to peak fitness would be an absolute steal. Obviously the reverse is true if his career is over but still. Ha ha shows how desperate I am to get a new centre back i'm even toying with one with dodgy knees :)

He had a bad knee surgery when he was 17, he recovered from it and played without any problems. While playing with Barcelona he starting having problems again and they concluded he needed surgery because his past surgery was done poorly. He told Barcelona he was too scared to go through another surgery and he wanted to heal with therapy. That was almost a year ago and up until now he needs to be injected after every game to recover his cartilage. We should avoid him at all cost.

Or it's may 22 and the press don't actually know our plan?

Well that's fecked up my transfer window, something amazing will have to happen for me to get out of this depressing news...

Because our most senior outfield player who has been at the club the longest and has captained us many times before will now officially be captain for a year? Beats giving the captaincy to Pogba/Lingard/DDG/Smalling. The truth is our dressing room lacks proper leaders.

Save would change his mind if we put up an actual challenge next season.

As for Rakitic, nothing wrong with adding some experience to the squad. People need to get over this obsession with player ages. Player are increasingly playing longer and maintaining a high level.

As long as we balance it with someone at the other end of the age range, I see no issue. His comments 7 years ago are also of little concern, as long as he doesn't hold them now.

Love Solskjaer to bits cause of what he did as a player, but my God has his tune changed since the winning run where he could not praise the current players highly enough! He needs to let go of the past, and keep up with modern football.
Just hope if the rumors are true, that Longstaff and Daniel James are good enough to compete for top 4. We were 2nd last season, what happened

If you're naive enough to believe they'll be regular starters then sure.

Why does it beat giving the captaincy to those players? Young is awful, old, and worst of all, been at the cub for almost a decade.

Pogba and DDG are agitating for a move. Lingard is a fecking manchild. Smalling is not that good either and not a leader. Just like the rest of our squad. Most of them are just mercenaries. Who'd you give it to?

Wow thanks for clarifying. What a bizarre scenario. Scared of surgery? Some of these footballers really are big babies. I'd have thought resigning yourself to knee surgery would be part of the risk you take when you desire to be a professional footballer. It's probably more complex than I'm giving him credit for but yeah sounds like he's a bullet that should be dodged. Shame

When you assess Solskjaer as a manager is he really credible enough to attract a relatively high tier of players ? Almost argue that not getting top 4 could already cost him the job next season. Maybe the players lodged the performances because of the impending changes that would have been apparent.

Didn’t Di Matteo sign Hazard at Chelsea?
Players want to join big clubs, managers are now pretty much disposable. If they get assurances on playing time and a good contract offer they’ll join United.

Where the feck did I say Lingard first choice

I'd get rid of him if it were up to me.

Longstaff, James, Collins..

I don't see how beefing up the squad with players from the midtable and championship will improve the quality of the team but whatever.

Maybe because we have also be targeting Koulibaly, Sancho, Pepe etc
Replacing first 11 players as well as useless squad players

Is James going down as one of the five signings supposed signings then?

I seriously hope not. Good signing though as we can use him as a squad option for the moment and will be a good bench player. Decent fee too. But we seriously need a quality right winger. If he is our right wing signing as part of the five players we will finish sixth again or worse than that. I seriously wouldn't be surprised though as our club is a shambles from top to bottom.

If he’s being bought it’s to play on the right when he’s ready, as he has done plenty for Swansea.
Stop moaning for moaning’s sake.

I am not against the signing. He is a good signing as its a decent fee and will be a good back up option. Will make hardly a dent in our budget. I am just really want us to get a quality right winger and not someone from the championship. I mean people shouldn't panic as there is still plenty of time to go.

After winning the Champions league. We just spent the past month getting beatings and finished 6th. We are not a great sell at the moment

If they were going to be signings to supplement 5 or 6 new starting 11 players I wouldn't care as much. But I suspect the club is not so ambitious and will bring in only 4 or 5 including the likes of these.

We'll see

They were champions of Europe, we're the third best team in North West England.

Chances are this will be like under Moyes. Name checking top class talents like Sancho that will eventually not join us leaving us with players like James or Longstaff.
Same with Koulibaly or De Ligt.

The crazy thing is, all those slamming the potential signings of Daniel James or Sean Longstaff would be giddy at the thought of those very same players if they were spanish, french or german.

Give the lads a chance!

The 3 mentioned are with the view of developing them as they obviously young talent and not just midtable or championship players.

I'd be surprised if we signed all 3 this summer though as we have immediate holes in the first 11 to fix first.

We’ve been talking for about 2 weeks now, how long does it take?

Swansea need to make £30 million this summer so they're probably trying to take United for a ride so they can minimise the number of players they need to sell.
