Depressing old day on the transfer tweets thread. Not sure which story concerns me most. I’m consoling myself that the sources are mostly terrible ( I thought some were banned, but maybe I’m wrong).

James - meh
Ratikic - good signing, could be our “James Milner” signing
Degea- we should not be held to ransom, he’s had his worst ever season for us
Ashley Young as captain - give me a break
Partey - interesting but unlikely to happen

We need 3 or 4 top class defenders, why are we only linked with midfielders and attackers?

Hopefully in the same way Valencia was "club captain" this season

Because leadership wasn't an issue this season?

The club captain should be one of the best and most consistent players at the club. Someone who starts week in, week out and who instills utter respect and even a little fear into his colleagues. Particularly the young pups coming up.

Look at the incredible captains this club has had over the years. I don't think there is anything that epitomises quite how shit we've become, more than the idea of Valencia or Young as club captain. Neither should be within touching distance of the squad at a club like ours, let alone be given the honour of leading it.

Missed the joke or just highly strung?

Joke aside, if we don't sign a right back this window I'll be shocked. Young shouldn't be on the pitch next season. I'm not sure Pogba is the answer as captain either, but then who from our squad is.

So name the one in the current squad. Young could very well be highly respected among the other players. But he´s a terrible footballer, I give you that. Then again, the best players may not always be captain material.

Neither. I'm saying that having a club captain who isn't good enough to play for the club is a nonsense and is one of the major issues that needs fixing.

I agree with you that the club hasn't a single player worthy of being Manchester United captain but I'm saying that's one of the first areas we should be looking at.

We don't have one and that's one of the major issues at the club.

Honestly if we did somehow manage to get our grubby mitts on De Ligt somehow, I'd name him captain tomorrow and let anyone in the squad who moaned about it walk.

So same thing which was reported a week ago with a new article. Cool

I'm increasingly getting worried that Leicester might have a better team on paper than us next season, with arguably a better manager! If these rumours are true that is! I'm all for young hungry players, but unproven ones, I'm not sure

The player is also considered to be good enough to make the Brazil team by Paulo Freitas. Which means he's very highly thought of at just 21 years old.
Yeah, I’ve seen him before, only YouTube clips and is it Tim Vickery - the SA football correspondent? He mentioned him in Jan. looks like a proper no 9.

To be fair, Solskjaer has already warned that we might be competing with Leicester, Wolves, Everton etc next season.

Love Solskjaer to bits cause of what he did as a player, but my God has his tune changed since the winning run where he could not praise the current players highly enough! He needs to let go of the past, and keep up with modern football.
Just hope if the rumors are true, that Longstaff and Daniel James are good enough to compete for top 4. We were 2nd last season, what happened

Jesus is there a much more depressing tweet?! Love the idea of going after young players but surely we can do better than this?

When you assess Solskjaer as a manager is he really credible enough to attract a relatively high tier of players ? Almost argue that not getting top 4 could already cost him the job next season. Maybe the players lodged the performances because of the impending changes that would have been apparent.
