Willian turns 30 in December and is viewed as an ideal option to bridge the gap between academy talent Tahith Chong graduating from the Under-23s into the first-team squad.

I've been saying this all year. Right wing should be considered a different scenario than the ages of Sanchez etc.
I want a player there for two years max so Chong as a lane way into the side.

We don't even know if Chong is going to cut it at the highest level. Instead of going for the likes of Pulisic or Bailey we are aiming for a stop gap measure and pay Chelsea at least 40 million for the privilege.

Yep. He would be a cracking signing for them and that' a decent price. I'm from Leicester and I've kept a close eye on them and they've needed to upgrade their wingbacks for the last couple of years to be perectly honest.

I send you my commiserations.

That's what I have been saying for this, if we buy younger people, it would make it more difficult for United academy to break out and get more games like Rashford. We all knew Chong is very special, I would amuse United know that as well. There's Matic we would replace Matic with James Garners during the next 5 years, even though James Garner won't be the first choice if we buy more midfielders, he'd take Matic's place in the squad when Matic left. And we have O'Connor who could take Alderweireld's place, (if we signed Alderweireld)

Hope we can produce world class players from our academy, we haven't had it for a long time.

Who says those two are any less risky? Haven't they been disappointing for a while now?
At least Chong won't cost us 50m plus, and our staff works with him everyday so he doesn't have any potential baggage.
in 2 years Chong will be closing in on 21, its not a huge stop gap

I'd be very happy with bringing in Willian, think he's a great player. Would also strengthen our right side incredibly. Wouldn't hinder the process of Chong either as after next season we'll look to bed him into the team.

Don't think Willian's age is too much of a problem as he is a very good professional and athlete.

For me there is no problem with the age for next season, becase wee need class and experience to go for the title and if we really do it then next summer we can invest in young talents.

This thread should be remained to - Fear of the 30.
Ooh I've got few ideas
Change the club name to Early Man United ( copied from the movie Early Man Obviously ) and make it a club policy to sign only Young players.

Or sign middle aged Benjamin Button who is a 50 years old 30 year old, who is experienced enough at the same time only getting younger. Everyone happy.

You would think Chong was guaranteed to be the next messi the way some on here go on about him. Very early days with him, he’s got a lot of growing to do.

Why are people calling our squad old?
We have two starters who are near 30 : Matic and Sanchez.
Sanchez is a physical beast and I expect him to play easily for 3-4 years. Matic we may have to phase out in 2-3 years but we already have McTominay who could potentially take up that role.

No other starter or atleast players fit to be a starter are old.
Smalling is our oldest CB, he's 28
Pogba, DDG, Jones, Rashford, Martial, Lukaku are all youngish.
If we replace Herrera with Fred (25), Fellaini with SMS and Young with Sandro, our squad is very young.
Even if we buy Toby and Willian, we will only have 4 players approaching their 30s,with one of them being a CB. 30 is not old for a CB, it's their prime.
Even if we don't replace Valencia this year, that's 5.

Sanchez a physical beast? He's already huffing and puffing like an asthmatic ant after 60 mins and has definitely lost that burst of pace which made him so deadly - just look at the Watford game for reference.

Unless all his stamina was lost in the last 3 months l, I believe he is a beast physically.
Why are people giving up on Sanchez so easily?
Even my Arsenal supporting friends ( who hate him for moving to United) have more trust in him and they expect him to come good for us next year.

Don't you know, the moment you turn 30, you lose all physical capabilities. I'm 35, closer to a walking stick than playing football!

Do you remember your own name?

No need to worry, long term memory holds up until your mid 40s. After that, the shrinkage of the size of your brain (which has been happening since you were 25) greatly accelerates. Happy birthday!

I'm also starting to think the Fred thing might be bewlocks.

From day one, it's all been coming from him and his agent and the tone has always been "He's leaving this summer, doesn't matter where, if not City I'm sure United will be interested....."

Sounds more and more like a player desperate to leave the Ukraine.

IDC if he has 3 nuts or if he's desperate to leave. A player of that caliber will vastly improve our midfield.

Really hope this isn’t true. Last position we need to strengthen is in attack IMO. Plus we should be aiming higher than Willian.
Have you seen the right side of our 'attack'? It's pitiful and embarrassing to say that a club that is well known for it's right hand sided attackers, has no right hand side attack. Willian is very underrated on here, he's a great footballer who'll vastly improve our right hand side.

Gossip like this feeds into the Neymar to RM saga. As they 'have' to buy Mbappe, they must be tapped out for this window if FFP is really a concern, unless they get more moolah from their sales. Everyone knows they have to sell, so it also drives their player prices down, so I think the odds on Neymar to RM has to be better than even.

Think we need a right sided attacker more than a central midfielder myself.

Not sold on Willian but i would say right wing is probably our main weakness. We have had very little from that side of the pitch all season.

Jose said at the end of the season players were lacking mentally and having belief that they could win a title

So i can see why he is looking for more experienced players that have a winning mentality than looking
for younger players.

I’d agree as much as we need that third midfielder, left back and right wing are in need of much more of attention unbelievably.
