Every time we get linked to a 29 year old (or older) - I get seriously worried

Looking forward to next season despite what all the nay-sayers are coming out with. Only thing im not looking forward to is, Arsenal board giving Arteta a contract until 2047

Reason why we won't be competing for trophies in the next 5 years is because all we do is buy players who had hunger to succeed but now want a last fat pay cheque.

We should be trying to attain players that are on the verge to become world class. Something we used to do.

In general I agree, but Willian is a worker and solid professional. He'll do well for us but ifI like us to bring through his replacement at the same time, whether that's Chong, Kluivert, Sancho or whoever.

The thread has only just started and I'm already fed up of reading it. The whining that ensues every time we're linked with anyone older than 26 is incredibly annoying

There's literally no post complaining about the age of our targets in the last 2 pages at least. Something is wrong with you.

Edit : FFS @whatwha you ruined it.

Of course we're interested in Alder and Willian, panicking because we haven't won the league in 2 seasons so going for short termism instead

Been a bit longer than two seasons.

Under Mourinho I meant. If we added both Willian and Alder to a squad of Young, Valencia, Mata, Matic, Fellaini, Sanchez, then players hitting 29 next year too like Smalling, Blind etc then we're going to start becoming a retirement home soon, 29 is young yes but a player will generally start to decline early 30's, and we'll have too many of them in starting positions. Rather than getting Alder id rather sign de Ligt, and rather than Willian id rather sign someone like Pulisic.

He probably means Jose's panicking to save his job and i think he's right. If we spend heavily this summer and don't win the league again, serious questions will be asked and rightly so. Jose probably prioritizes short term success to save his job and hence the signings like Willian are on cards instead of trying to fit the likes of Martial, Rashford etc. into the team.

Players will be sold and replaced. Posts like this need to stop.

In both seasons he's been here, he's signed some older names (Zlatan, Sanchez) as well as some younger (Lukaku, Bailly, Pogba). Though we might be signing both Willian and Alderweireld, I think it'll be balanced out a bit with some younger names like Fred or SMS. Blind is definitely going, Fellaini probably will leave and with us being after a leftback I can't see Young being a starter anymore either. We've even been linked to a younger rightback in Hysaj.

Walker 28 end of the month, Kompany 32, Otamendi 30, Aguero 30 in June, Silva 32, Fernandinho 33. fecking wake up.

Young and Valencia signed an extension for just year, they are all leaving at end of the season 2018-19. Matic and Sanchez will be rotated within 2 years alongside younger players. I think in United's policy if we want younger player under 20, so better off promoting younger players to senior from our academy, it is in United's best interests. Mctominay, Joel Periera and Axel were promoted and there will be more next season. So, in term of our U18 academies potentially who could start for us in next 5 years or so would be James Garner for Matic as successor when Matic left United but Garner probably won't be an instant starter, If we sign Bale and Alderweireld so Lee O'Connor could take Alderweireld's place and Chong take Bale's place, as they are both very highly rated, if they all turn out well, they would take that place and if it didn't go well, we would go in transfer window to buy players.

If we signed all top young players U21 or U23, it would make it more difficult for our academy to break through. I feel more connected with United's players the likes of Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Rashford, Lingard, Scholes rather than Mata, Herrera, Matic, Mhki, Sanchez now because they didn't make through our academy, they were brought.

I really want to see more world class player that United would produce in future, we haven't had it for ages since Pogba.

That would be superb for he Scottish league, if he does well, he could attract more talent that way. It was a shame Ryan Gauld to sporting never went the way some (like me) hoped. Also might stop some of the shit post retorts of “he plays in a pub league” for anyone from there.

If those 2 are our only signings this summer, then we'll be no where near for the title or champions league once more. We really need a leader at the back and Pullisic has been pretty average last season.
We actually have a lot of young defenders at the club already, lord knows how good Tuanzebe or TFM would look playing in Eredivise. But I'd say they'd both look exceptional.

This isn't Football Manager or FIFA, players don't start to decline when they hit 30, most adapt their game and play differently than previously. Look at the average age of this Madrid side, look at the average age of the Italy team that won the World Cup.

This nonsense has to stop. We need to start being relevant again as of August, not in three seasons time after some Dutch kid maybe comes good.

And if you're expecting youth players to develop into world class talents playing alongside Smalling and Jones in training then your expectations are miles off.

(Tuttosport is a sh*t source)

Don't think there's any chance of Bonucci leaving Italy but I'd take him in a heartbeat over Alderweireld or Umtiti or any other CB we've been linked with so far. He's 31 but will easily be one of the better CBs in the world for the next couple of years.

We'd better win the league the soon if those are the players we're priotising otherwise there's no point in going for short term players and not getting immediate success. If winning the title is the price we pay then good but even that isn't guaranteed.

Didn't he move to Milan because he wanted to stay in Italy? Think he has a son with a serious medical condition and therefore leaving Italy isn't really on the cards.
