I don't know, I think Zaha is a good investment to buy as we really lack individualists who can team up with Rashford and play fast, but the pressure will be on him if we pay a lot. Failing two times at United, would be a bit of a pressure. A bit worried that Zaha doesn't play much from the right at Palace. Isn't it mostly a free role / left wing?
Sancho and Zaha would be nice though. It's not just one player we need. We also need players for competition, to make everyone perform. That's what City's doing so well.

We can spend actual money on better players. Price shouldn't be a factor. Ok player for free or potentially world class player for big money? We need the latter.

He is a good who is ready for the step up. He is becoming more consistent and from next season on I can see him become a 25-30 goals+assists forward player for the next few years. The issue with us is that we need a top right winger whereas Zaha excels in a more free role. From whatever I have seen of him at palace, he is best centrally or on coming in from the left. I won't mind him if we can't get our first choice attacking options. Think Spurs should snap him up.

Firstly Zaha won't come on a free, it was hypothetically pointed out and let's not drift furthermore from the point. A team that regularly has Mata or Lingard starting in the front 3 wouldn't take Zaha on a free? I'm not sure someone who claims that watches us play at all. Ideally I would like Sancho but Zaha is not a bad alternative depending on the price. And most importantly imo I don't think he would be cheap, and therefor not worth it after all.
United fans acting like we are too big to shop freebies are laughable, and that's why I asked what does that even mean. You have teams like Juventus and Bayern who regularly look for smart deal on the market, and someone is going to bag Rabiot for a free this summer while we paid 50+ million pounds for Fred. Big money transfers we all want, but we've been horrible in that department lately. Good run clubs look for smart deals every time, unfortunately we are not one of those clubs.
Ramsey on a free vs somebody like Zaha on a free are two different kettles of fish. My point is we shouldn't settle for average just because its free. Besides, like you mentioned, Zaha isn't free.

Again, it's hypothetically spoken, but it's not two different kettles of fish. Zaha is a very good PL proven attacker that would improve us. I never said we should settle for average just because its free, neither we should do it because someone is a nice guy, writes a good reading blog or is an academy lad. If said player improves us and there's potential in him, it's a no brainer on a free or a reasonable fee. Crystal Palace would want a huge fee for Zaha, which I don't think it's worth it anyway.

If you're going to lecture me on the forum at least try to be accurate. There's droves of posts where folks react to a comment and miss sarcasm even when there's white text added. You just don't typically see paragraphs written out explaining it nor this level of animosity. Folks just clarify that it was a joke and move on without some added barb in there.

People will be disappointed with this, but we need better quality in midfield. Yes he’s a great character and good for the club but he doesn’t have the quality we need to reach the top again.
If that's true, then that's absolutely criminal by the board. Why did he have less than a year in the first place as one of our key players? He seemed happy here so it's shocking that the board could be that complacent.
Outstanding squad player. Probably not good enough to start for a team challenging for the title due to his limitations.
Would be annoying, he's not great but he's decent enough and it's another player we'll have to replace and potentially without CL football/money too.
In general that's probably fair but for now he's our second best midfielder. Losing Herrera and keeping Matic is a blow.
I think it'll be hard to replace him, he's all you could want from a squad player
If its true that Herrera wanted 200k id say the club made the right decision not to renew. The likes of Modric/Kroos earn around 200.000 a week (?) and Herrera is not on that level.
So that's one additional hole to fill in the squad
