How old is VVD? He wasn't a spring chicken when pool bought him. Some of you guys are mad honestly.
But he was ‘already in the PL’, which makes up for the first two years everyone has already written off of Koulibaly’s career.

Comparing VVD to Koulibaly isn't fair, because there was barely any risk with VVD. Koulibaly could easily find the PL hard going and be found out, no one knows for sure.

There was plenty of risk in signing Van Dijk.

There's a risk with any transfer, nothing is guaranteed in football.

On the risk scale, Koulibaly a comfortably more risky a signing, but you wouldn't think that reading the comments on here, who talk like he's a guaranteed hit and the answer to all our problems. It's as if some on here don't really watch football and see how often signings simply don't work out.

Everyone could see VVD quality, people questioned the price, but now it looks like peanuts.

I think ‘everyone can see Koulibaly is quality, but question the price’ too. The fact is, Van Dijk is not available, so people need to get over him. I’ve heard for a year that we ‘need a leader’ or ‘don’t need another young defender’ etc, however, 28 is too old for an experienced defender.

If Koulibaly comes in and plays as he can, it will be worth the money. If he doesn’t, it won’t, whether he is 28 or 23.

Oh what a meltdown.
Everything I said was a fact. If anything its the fact fans dont have meltdowns and are happy cheering on players like Young, Jones etc till they get new contracts.
United never get deals done early. The club doesn't act like a big club. And maybe if fans were more vocal about signings like other clubs Woodward will realise he is incompetent. We have been chasing Saul for 3 years. City will buy him within a month. But dont worry we have Garner coming through. What a joke. We have so many positions filled with average players yet Woodward will not get signings done early, he will wait like he always does till he signs Bale on deadline day.

Prove it.

Imagine complaining Utd fans aren't vocal enough about signings  we've probably got the most vocal fans in world football about transfers, our fans are fecking muppets.

I’m going to guess, 14 or 15?

Liverpool bought a 26 year old CB, already in the PL and willing to go there since the summer before. Koullibaly will be 28 in the summer, and yet to play in a new demanding league and might need to adapt. Even that season and a half Liverpool got out of VVD counts in my point of view. Not that Koulibaly isn't a good player. the investment i a bit different and by the looks of it it will cost us more.

Meltdown on a meltdown.

He's 28 at the start of next season, by the time he's adapted to a very different league (if he ever does) he could be 29 or 30. Sanchez is 30 and is clearly in decline. Some players, those who aren't overly reliant on their pace or are able to adapt their game to cope, play on at a high level until their mid 30's, but they are few and far between.
Thats just silly.

As an investment an 18 year old makes a lot more sense than a 28 year old. Its potentially 15 years of service vs 5 years.

That’s complete tosh. If you buy the right player who makes the team successful is the best investment any club can make. Buying potential does not equate to success...

So going by the rumors, we could be signing Bruno Fernandes, Sancho and a top CB, probably Koulibaly
Think we will still need another CM as Bruno could be a backup to Pogba but we would need a Matic replacement too. Also a RB, but would be very happy with Sancho and Koulibaly

€80m is a huge loss. What's the gauranteed sum they paid...think it was like €120m?

Was it not 140 million pounds/euros? I'd image that after spending a significant amount on De Jong they're trying to raise funds for more summer business (De Ligt, Jovic, etc.)

Why?

Good player, good age. Not too expensive. He would improve our midfield.

He's nothoing special and would only serve as a back-up to Pogba, he also wouldn't be that cheap, the Dutch league aren't even selling cheap now so the Portuguese won't either, and we need actual starters, not cover squad players in this window.

Not sure United as a club ,and one hopefully competing for the major honours, is going to get far this summer if we bring in slightly above average quality individuals,as we have enough of those standard of players already.

Unpopular opinion but hopefully next season the likes of Smalling,Young,Matic,Herrera and Lingard are consistent rotation players and not ones consistently in the first 11.
Dont think that will be the case though.

The likelihood of 5 of our current best XI being just rotation players is slim to none.
