This is likely. Last month Martial's agent said negotiations were going nowhere and he was very pessimistic about the possibility of a new deal. De Gea has given us enough time to get our shit together as it is and we're no step closer to being the club he deserves.
Martial's agent alluded to the fact that our differences related to money. Those can easily be resolved. Especially at United where we hand huge contracts like candy.

Is that a good thing though? We've been overpaying (both wages and transfer fees) for years now. Surely that has to stop? I bet Martial wouldn't get paid more than what we're offering anywhere else so why should we let ourselves be held ransom?

Although I kind of agree with what you're saying, we're not really in a position to let world class talent go. A consequence of our lack of a good transfer strategy for a decade is that we not only have to overpay to aquire good players, we also have to overpay to keep our good players. Pay Martial, save money by getting rid of other (highly paid) deadwood.

How many midfielders do Barcelona want? It's depressing that United are never linked to the world's best youngsters anymore. It's always Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, City and Juventus.

Linked to.

Does that really matter over who actually signs and plays the players? And how many of those names have gone on to become worth the commotion so far? The latter list is much smaller than the links you're depressed about. I wouldn't fret it.

Why not spend 150 million quid on De Ligt and De Jong.

Quality players that will be a part of the team spine for 10+ years.

The money spent will be considered a bargain pretty quick i would think.

probably because other clubs want them who are better than us

Higuain is certainly better than Morata but I truly hope that we are only interested in a loan or very short term deal. He's got huge boom/bust potential.

Hoping we can get this deal over the line as a loan till the end of the season with a buy option and loan Morata somewhere. That would be best for all parties I think.

Is it me, or was it illegal to hold talks with a player without agreeing terms with their team first back then?

Has it changed, or is it that nobody cares?

I genuinely wonder whether clubs/agents are using Chinese clubs are interim stops.

West Ham won't want to be seen as selling to Chelsea / United, but if they have a quick 6/12 month stop off in China and then move on to a bigger club after, that's fair game and no reputations ruined.

This sort of thing seems to be happening more and more.

So they aren't broke the board are just tighter than Bournemouth's?

They aren't broke at all. They are always cash positive with almost no debt. Think of them as house owner who has paid off their entire mortgage on their rental property and receive massive rents but aren't interested in paying for painting the walls. But they aren't just any house owner, they own one of the most prime location properties, generating near highest possible rents a rental property can generate.

This article is old but it has numbers that might give you some idea.

I think we should be fretting about it. We are desperate for improvements in our squad. We are miles behind the very best in our league let alone Europe. Yet the likes of Barcelona are buying players like Malcom to sit on their bench and heavily linked with the very best youngsters in Europe like De Ligt. We on the other hand don’t look to be doing activity this transfer window. Let’s not forget our net spend for transfers is around £50m this season, we should be spending at least £100m a season until we are back on top, otherwise we all know where that money is going to.

Juventus deem Ramsey good enough for them but we don’t? For a free transfer it’s a fantastic buy and then we can put our transfer budget into strengthening other gaps in the squad. That is my issue.
