I thought this couldn't be true so I looked it up. It is.

Considering the quality of player England have had over the years, your top ten most expensive players isn't that impressive:

£49m Raheem Sterling
£47.5m John Stones
£45m Kyle Walker
£35m Danny Drinkwater
£35m Andy Carroll
£35m Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
£30m Rio Ferdinand
£27m Luke Shaw
£26m James Milner
£25m Michael Keane
£25m Jordan Pickford
£25m Adam Lallana

Rio is probably the only world class player on that list. Also, the list I read has Rooney at only £20m - was he not closer to £30m?

I thought Rooney was 28mill

Why we should always factor inflation when doing these most expensive transfers ever list.

Some of the best English players in recent times either never moved or only left at the end of their contracts. Also that list is going to be heavy tilted toward the last 3 years where prices went crazy.

Not sure, but resting a player like Fekir in a game against "Bourges Foot" could be quite normal.

I think if Solanke had gone to somewhere like Bournemouth instead of Liverpool when he left Chelsea then his career might be at a different point by now.

He looked really good for the England U21 and is rated highly by Soulthgate.

May seem a like alot of money but I don't think it's that much in today's market. As an English player he only has to score 10 goals in a season and and he will be worth 2 or 3 times that amount.

Yeah that's my thought too, i don't get the outrage. He was very highly rated not so long back

19 million pounds. :lol::wenger:

Seriously. How the feck do you lot do it?! Get top dollar for absolute tat. Same with Ibe, Carroll and Benteke. It's unbelievable.

Meanwhile we struggle to offload Darmian, an Italy international defender for under £15 million, sold Chicharito for under £10 million and managed a pathetic £2 million for Rafael.

it was supposedly 20m upfront and then about 9m in addons like goal amounts, trophies and stuff like that which I assume he hit the shit out of, so probably closer to thirty, crazy that was like 14 years ago.

The Coach identifies the targets and then it's upto to the guys who do the negotiations to decide how high they'd go for said player.

As I said, replace Howe with Bournemouth. Was on my phone and was easier to write Howe. Thanks for that insight into the transfers, though. I’m sure you got my point originally which was it’s crazy money for a totally unproven player.

Thats crazy and so fecking stupid :wenger:

There are great goalscorers...then there are scorers of great goals...and finally a scorer of a goal, singular, Dominic Solanke worth £19m after scoring one goal in the EPL! Unbelievable.

Not always true. Sarri said he had no clue about the Pulisic transfer

The media hardly ever criticises Liverpool players. In fact, if they dared to do it their fans would hound whichever poor fecker who does it.

The media have a free run on ours, and our fans join in with the fun of downplaying the talent we have at the club. As soon as someone plays for us, they're damaged goods.

Except those three are levels above your usual wonderkids. De Ligt especially is someone I'd break the bank over.
And if being proven was everything why have United's glorious incoming transfers failed almost every time? De Ligt and De Jong at the right club will be world class. And speaking about whether there will be a centre back who's 19 years old and already starting for Holland and captaining a team in the latter stages of the CL in a year's time who's as good as De Ligt, that's a very, very long shot. I doubt he's even considering United with Barca looking towards him as the long-term Pique replacement and Madrid needing a Ramos replacement.
We have Raahford and Martial though, Dalot is highly rated himself.
Utd have plenty of young players of our own to focus on. That doesn't include Gomes / Greenwood / Chong or whoever else is coming through so our transfer policy / club strategy is as good as anybody's in that regard.
There is no benefit to signing highly rated young players these days since they cost as much as proven talent.
If anything it's a bigger gamble that simply isn't worth it.
English sides academy is also stacked with ridiculous talent at the minute. It doesn't make sense for us to be splashing out that sort of money for young players.
Barca in their La Masia prime wouldn"t be involved in transfers like this.
