I don't think Mourinho is happy with his current no 10 options. He bought Mkhi for the position which unfortunately didn't work out. What we need is four players to come straight into the team. Two CBs, RW, and a no10. But getting only one CB for now is also acceptable.

We need to be looking at Eriksen

I was watching the Spurs game on Sky yesterday and the commentator in the game said that according to the Danish medical department that Eriksen has a injury that is chronic. I would stay well clear if that is the case.

That's not true. It was presented like that due to a translation error. What the Danish national team coach said was that the injury Eriksen had could become chronic, which is obviously very different.

James is not what we need at all, especially considering the price. He'd be another pointless Hollywood signing that we'd have to shoehorn into the side while neglecting real problem areas....but hey, Ed might impress his sponsor buddies with the signing.

We are stacked in the middle, no need to get another one to play there. RW and CB are priorities.

We're not stacked with quality though. I don't consider Mata or Lingard to be of the quality to make us contenders along with City. We need two attackers and a CB at the very least to challenge Abu Dhabi... Quality needs to bought in not quantity...

Currently no RW we could possibly buy is going to be as good as James. He wouldn't need to be shoehorned in either.

Galatasaray is signing Hamdy Alaa Elsayed Mamed Mahmoud Abdelmoaty Hamdy Ala Elsayed Hamed Mahmoud Abdelmoaty.

When he makes these fecked up decisions he deserves nothing but our contempt.

He can't cry about not getting his precious defender when he's had 6(!) opportunities to get rid of Smalling and Jones but chooses not to. No one put a bullet to his head to keep them, and now he wants to sell the one promising CB we have left at the club instead of the two who have let us down time and time again over the last 6-7 years .

I seriously can't wait til he fecke off in the summer.

Genuine question - would selling those two affect your home grown quota?

Its a joke If we sell Bailly before Jones

Care to state how we sell a player who is injured 3/4 of the season and is out of contract in July next year?
Jones has zero value. Someone will take him on a free on a pay as you play deal. Selling him is a no go.
It’s a bigger joke people think we can sell him...

Selling Bailly would be a huge mistake. He's only 24 and has the tools to be a top defender if given a run of games with a bit of discipline. Jones on the other hand, is useless.

Doesn't his deal end next summer? If so it's pretty fecking simple. DON"T RENEW HIS CONTRACT.

Like roonster said, we have 10 (Rashford makes 11 but he's still underage). Grant and Young may not be here that much longer due to age though.

Registered home grown players at the 'big six' (i.e. not including Foden, Rashford):

Manchester United - 10 (Andreas, Grant, Jones, Lingard, Lukaku, McTominay, Pogba, Shaw, Smalling, Young)
Chelsea - 9 (Barkley, Cahill, Christensen, Drinkwater, Fabregas, Green, Loftus Cheek, Moses, Piazon)
Arsenal - 8 (Bellerin, Holding, Iliev, Iwobi, Jenkinson, Martinez, Ramsey, Welbeck)
Liverpool - 7 (Clyne, Henderson, Lallana, Milner, Ox, Randall, Sturridge)
Tottenham Hotspur - 7 (Alli, Davies, Kane, Ogilvie, Rose, Trippier, Winks)
Manchester City - 4 (Delph, Sterling, Stones, Walker)

Can't see Smalling going anywhere. The one defender we've been able to rely on to keep fit the past couple of seasons whereas most of our other centre backs have had various issues. He'd be the last of the centre backs to be sold IMO.

That is what Red_toad is saying in reply to FootyGirl - we won't get money for him so he can't be sold. He'll leave on a free.

I think that he will get a renewed contract offer from us. Nobody else would ever pay for him to sit on the sidelines like he does, except for us.
What I am seeing is that we are now allowing contracts to expire. Instead, we run down the contract till it's almost finished, then renew. This saves us money.
The other thing we do is that we always renew the contract. This allows us to sell the player for some money. Now, Jones can't be sold (as you quite rightly stated), but our board don't know this. If they renew his contract, they'll believe that he can be sold in a year or 2 and we can recoup say £20M for him.

I expect our board to show their incompetence in every decision they make and for this reason, i strongly believe that Jones will remain a MUFC player, beyond the duration of his current contract.

The daftest part is (assuming we plan to keep Jones for a year) if we allow Jones' contract to expire and then negotiated a separate 1-year contract we'd half his wages for the same result - he won't get a better offer elsewhere.

We should let any of our 30+ year old players test free agency before extending them on these +1 deals. Is Ashley Young going to get a better offer than a reduced 1 year deal from us?

It's staggering incompetence and just proves that our board have no clue. +1 deals should only be activated to retain our better players to stop them leaving on a free.

No. IIRC there are 10 home grown players

Cheers for the responses! Appreciate it.

I'm convinced that if Bailly went to Spurs he'd quickly become one of the best defenders in the league.

He has Arsenal written all over him. He's simply too rash to be a top defender. Put him in a one on one duel and he'd be fantastic but, sadly for him, there's a lot more to defending that that.
