Because the club would rather pay 50 million more than buy every emerging talent and be patient with him while he hones his skills. All top clubs work that way now tbf, Barca bought Umtiti, Pool bought Van Djik. Top clubs have too much pressure and ideally young talent should move to BVB, Monaco, Porto, Benfica type of clubs before joining a high pressure environment like Utd where you're expected to perform week in week out.

On a more serious note there is no place in our squad for James since we are overloaded in the No.10 position with Alexis , Lingard and Mata all capable in playing that position . We should rather go for Fekir since he can play both Right wing forward and Centre forward .

I know he is better than them and there is no question of his talent but currently we are not looking for another No.10 so I doubt we would be interested . Unless we are selling one of them I don't think we will try for James since we have other important positions to take care of .
Not if we switch to a system without wingers. Alexis isn't a #10, Lingard shouldn't start for us, if we genuinely want to get back to winning the PL or CL and Mata will be sold, if we bring in a RW or #10.
I don't think Mourinho is happy with his current no 10 options. He bought Mkhi for the position which unfortunately didn't work out. What we need is four players to come straight into the team. Two CBs, RW, and a no10. But getting only one CB for now is also acceptable.
