Even if we DID get 3 in today, as Gary Neville has just tweeted, why so late? No chance of a proper medical before signing!
I guess it’s all about ramping up anticipation.

Not by 5pm....medicals, paperwork etc. The game is up, let the games begin, starting tomorrow.

Oh come on... There is still more than enough time to sign people.

Does it look likely after Jose's comments? No.

But let's not pretend that we've ran out of time.

There is special dispensation with the 'deal sheets' which allow extra time for medicals etc

I call BS.

If we're not paying big money for Toby because he's 29 and on the last year (before clause kicks in at least), why would we pay it for Godin who's 32 and on his last year of contract? And there's 0 chance of Atleti letting Godin go for cheap either.

He's 32. I know he had a fantastic World Cup but surely the price they'll want will a terrible investment.

He's been available for 30m buyout all summer (which is why this is nonsense). Would be fantastic and one I've mentioned about 2666 times but you need to work on these deals for months. Will never ever happen.

Love how your first reaction to every snippet is negativity.

Anyways, AS reported earlier that his release clause is 20m euros as he gets into the last year of his contract.

Can do medical after the window closes and still not complete the signing if you get extensions etc which are easy to get if you announce intention to sign player within deadline. It's quite common

Has a €20m release clause apparently. But still, it's highly unlikely.
If true, I can only imagine we aren’t the first club to put feelers out to him and be rebuffed. A release clause being triggered is worthless without the player wanting the move.

See Suarez and Arsenal (although the legalities of that release clause was different to those in Spain).

Dark days as an United fan mate. Dark, dark days

:D gotta laugh at this transfer window. We've been chasing every defender on the planet according to the media

who next? Let's temp big jaap out of retirement

I swear to god Journos are reading this thread - I just mentioned Godin in the previous page and here's a tweet from SKY.

Edit: Ok, my post was in the press conference thread but still. :D

Chelsea literally proved this week that it doesn't take months to trigger release clause, rather a few days. Godin simply doesn't want to move, probably.

Wonder why SkyBet picked his name out to make such a bullshit rumour?

I can imagine them all sitting around the office during their morning briefing with two big bowls and everyone gets a go to pick out a random ball from pot A with a team name and then a random player from pot B...would be kind of fun really.

Nah, everyone knows they just go through the highest rated CBs in Fifa and hope something sticks!
Is that so? You’re the first person I’ve seen say that. Makes it worse if anything so they’re just talking shite for the sake of it.
Glorious clicks! (ad revenue).

I'd take Godin after the state of this window.

Very experienced, has at least 2 good years left in him and for 20m Euros (£18m) that would be a small output in todays market.

Still hoping for Toby or Harry though

I heard United are also after Ryan Shawcross.

Yup, Juventus was all over him for months apparently but guy simply loves Atletico and Someone way too much, gotta respect him for that.

I think it’s obvious spurs want Martial in a deal for Toby. Or we would of just signed him. Godin would be amazing
