I personally welcome rival fans. I think it adds a lot to the discussion, unless they are of course here to wind people up.

I actually think more could be done to get rival fans engaged too, especially in the build up to games. Pretty sure we had some form of Q&A for rival fans ahead of games in the past.
Fair do’s , I don’t post I’m any other sort of forum apart from here and I probably don’t really post that much compared to many others on here, I just don’t know where people get the time or the want to post on rival fans forums as well as their own clubs forums, different strokes and all that I suppose.

I think the Barca and Real rumours are both bullshit fed out by Chelsea to try and get us to stump up stupid money for Willian.

Barca did not deny the Willian bids and then went and got Malcolm when the last bid was apparently rejected.

He's with the team in the USA.

 Jose looks chuffed as usual

Yet someone said Jones would be worth 15m in this current market

Whoever said that obviously isn't following football!

Jones in the current market would be minimum £40m.

English international with plenty of Premiership and some Champions League experience.

Only 26.

To be honest if he played for anyone other than United his mistakes and injuries would probably be forgotten and he'd be worth approaching £60m

He’s not worth 40 million. He can barely stay fit 2 games in a row.

No one is going to pay close to £40m for a player who is plagued with injuries.

He has played 25 and 26 games respectively in last 2 seasons, which may or may not confirm your point, but I think his injury problems are starting to get behind him.

If Maguire is £65/70m then Jones surely is minimum £35m with an extra premium for the potential to be less injured!

I agree about Real, but think Barcelona were definitely interested until they realised Chelsea were asking too much when they could get Malcom for half the price.
Didn't Barca deny interest in him though? I can't believe Chelsea would turn down the supposed offer Barca made.

What an idiotic decision to close the PL window early. Either everyone closes the window early or no one does.

Very talented player. I was curious when he was reduced to a sub role for England at the last u19 Euros whilst the somewhat inferior Isaac Buckley-Ricketts was starting, especially given Edwards looked a level above him when he came on as sub.

Subsequently Edwards had a disastrous loan spell at Norwich that was cut short after one appearance. He was supposed to have failed to turn up to a single training session on time.

Thanks for that, didn't see any reports like that. Sounds to me that he didn't want to be at Norwich really, not sure why as their youth setup and facilities are top notch.
Maybe a loan to a lower premier club, Fulham for example, could be good.

Oh I take your points (other than him being a top quality footballer, but obviously judgement is subjective) and agree that goals and assists is possibly not the best way to judge him (and had a line to that effect to start with), but I think it's relatively moot. Willian would be expected to produce significantly more if he came with the price tag being discussed to 'solve' United's right wing issue; he would be judged a failure if he did not produce it. It might be unfair, but its part and parcel of being an expensive signing. Hazard, if and when he goes for big money will be expected to produce more too.

Fwiw, whilst I don't doubt that he 'did a job' in that Chelsea title winning side I do doubt that that job was particularly inspiring – in fact I think that it was one of his poorest seasons in a Chelsea shirt —, my abiding memory of that Chelsea side was of a solid, dour side who largely relied on Costa and Hazard for goals and attacking spark. I'm sure Willian could come in and do that job, but I'm not at all certain that's what people have been crying out for – if anything it might be argued that we have too many of that sort of player as it is.

Fair points.
Just to clarify, I said Willian is a top quality footballer 'depending on how he is used...'
Like I said earlier, it's really about what Jose's plan is and the tyoe of player he is looking for. His usefulness can really go under the radar if one is looking at scoring/assist stats. Take that title winning Chelsea side for instance. Ivanovic had a tendency and was given the freedom by Jose to charge forward and he often did so to good effect. A major reason that was possible was Willian's work rate, positional awareness and intelligence. He often covered well and helped to maintain that attack-defence balance on Chelsea's right wing.
Willian is not your typical attacking star player. He is a work horse, a bee that buzzes around, that distracts. If what Jose wants is a player that can do those for him so that the rest of the team can achieve other ends, then Willian will be a fabulous signing. But if Willian is assessed within a different context, then I understand why some are critical of signing him.

Are the other clubs waiting for the EPL transfer window to close to buy PL players?

Yeah I think everyone is rubbing their hands hoping for large discounts and loans like Napoli and Darmiam. I think the epl need to rethink this. They could close in league transfers early, but transfers in/out from other leagues close with everyone else.

Don't think so. Real Madrid is the only one to have made statements denying interest in players.
Oh yeah, I know Real have been the only club to make official denials, I just thought Barca did it through that magazine they tend to use as a mouthpiece.

Pretty happy to see a bit of a turn in the tide in here, seeing these journos for what they are, peddling rubbish.

Mourinho is dour and it is annoying but that is about as far as this goes.

At this point I would sell Hazard and Willian and buy Bailey, Pulisic and SMS.

Poch’s comments don’t bode well, sounds like he’s needs a personality transplant to make it big. I don’t have much hopes of him kicking on.

“He has authority and behavioural problems, and we have to look at the bigger picture to find out the root cause. There was a time when it would have been seen as impossible for him to play professionally, let alone make it in the Premier League.

“Our challenge is to get him to accept the pathway we've laid out for him, and it's our responsibility to make sure he behaves himself when he trains with the first team (with all the rules and obligations this involves). He has no shortage of talent, but there are gaps to be filled: he has to learn to score ugly, run more and be committed.”

We seem to be struggling to get the fee we want for Darmian from Serie A clubs, about £20m for an Italy international, with plenty of Serie A experience ad champions league experience, supposedly in his prime at 28.........How well do you think we would fare sounding out clubs to buy Phil Jones for £55m......probably about as well as the jolly green giant in a limbo dancing competition I would think

He's not that good.
If hes not good enough then neither are Valencia or Young or Shaw. I can understand wanting to improve on what we have, but at this stage it's obvious werew not getting that. Valencia is getting older and we'll need at least a stop gap for a few years after he's gone.

I wasn't exactly thrilled at the prospects of Willian and Maguire but at the very least they are competent players. Now I'm seeing we are linked Mina and Rebić and I'm praying for Willian and Maguire.
