I'd be fine with us signing Dembele from spurs on a 3 year deal. Quality midfielder who can play in a 2 or 3, would do well alongside Pogba I think.

Is Yaya Toure a replacement for Fellaini?

Interesting development...
TBF wouldn't be bad just to have as another body for the season. Can still sit deep and pick a pass and we're going to be short if Fellaini goes; doubt we have the money for 2 CMs (combined with everything else we need).

This is what I’ve been saying. Such an upgrade on Fellaini

We do have a big midfield/attack and win a lot of aerial duels in the middle of the pitch, but our CBs and fullbacks are all pretty poor in the air (Smalling aside). We clearly have a few issues with marking at set pieces, too.
For a team of our average height we're a shambles at both attacking and defending set pieces. Especially corners

He's easily better than Herrera/McTominay and Fellaini.
Herrera is so underrated. If we offered a switch Poch would bite our hands off to take Ander. He is vastly superior outside of perhaps his stature.

Not going to compare Dembele to one of our youth players.

And as for Fellaini for Dembele it’s not really a positive move. Fellaini does a job. Dembele could do a job. But we need better

Its almost as if Mourinho signed all the tall players believing that they'd naturally do well on set pieces, and so we dont practice them

Herrera is average and doesn't even get a call up for Spain. Dembele was bossing the Juve midfield and will start for the most talented Belgium team in a generation. You are utterly delusional if you think it's even close

Competition for Spain midfield is much stronger though.

Sigh. I hate when posters get petty with their language. Can’t you try to convince me without jabs like ‘delusional’?

The Belgian nt example is not a great point considering for one, Fellaini plays a considerable role for the very same “Golden generation “ and two, Nainggolan would likely take his spot except he is not in the squad for his personal life

Id say as far as our team needs Herrera being Spain’s 6th or 7th choice CM is better than Dembele being Belgiums 4th or 5th best

What is this doubt about money nonsense? Money isnt an issue unless we are talking about PSF/Neymar nonsense

Jose has said if Fellaini goes we need two midfielders. Dembele has a year left on his contract and what, 30/31? He’d certainly cost less than most other options.

I don’t subscribe to the obsession with age, but Dembele would be a very short sighted signing, think that shipped sailed a few years back.

For me it's not even a question of age - it's about experience and genuine quality. I'd be happy to have a player sign knowing he could only give us 1 year, if in that year we could regain some fluidity in midfield and build a really good title challenge. The experience from a player of that caliber would be invaluable.

I hate that more than just throwing money around, City have built a really good foundation for themselves over the years we twiddled our thumbs thinking all was safe on the 'perch' (mmm might have to use this again). Just remembering Patrick Vieira signing with them for a year deal...we could use with some of that mentality. I mean, he spouts nonsense, but Yaya Toure isn't wrong about Pogba - he could learn a few things from such a player.

I think Matic came out and said something similar too. We have plenty of decent players that can do a job. We need quality to bring the best out of them.

It is interesting City legend Yaya didn't rule out a United move at all.

Lol. He's just after a good deal at the highest level he could get one. Why would he rule out United? Beggars can't be choosers. Can only hope it doesn't happen.

If you can't tell Dembele is a better player with a simple eye test then I don't know what to say. It's the type of awful bias post that you see on the forums of specific teams like when Liverpool fans used to claim Babel was better than Ronaldo etc. You should spend some time on a few neutral football boards and see what the reaction is to a post like that, the majority of fans think Herrera is incredibly average and they aren't wrong.
