I don't know about that as the defining criterion for a top class winger. Hazard averages around 20 G+A in the league over the last 5 seasons. He's rumoured to cost near to 200m (obviously a better player). Willian is obviously not near that, but he's played a lot less and unlike Hazard, he has defensive duties. He was more attacking for Shaktar.

If he were to join for 60-70m I'm pretty sure those most skeptical would be on board soon enough.

The bar keeps being raised eh.

What else do you want to achieve paying 75m for someone with 2-3 years left? Is he ever winning us the league? Would you be satisfied with a repeat of last season maybe?
The bar for someone with that tag who's not a nascent kid is to be a top player. Not just fill in the numbers until Jose leaves and the next manager signs someone more capable.

Didn't people say the same stuff about the guy Chelsea bought to replace Matic, who was then shite?

Willian would add a lot and give us balance but, it stinks of desperation. I doubt he will cost £75m I imagine it will include add ons etc but it’s another one of them where the price quoted is always above the true price. I think a lot of people are underrating Willian because of his age but for what he provides you will see the benefits of having him. I’d prefer a younger winger of course but it’s not going to happen, Jose is desperate for him.

Do you think United's problem is that we lack another low output forward? Anyone who's seen Hazard and Willian knows which type of player one United are in dire need of.

And yes, if you sign someone for for 75m you do hope to win the title while they still play for you. Unless you think we are signing Willian to eventually 4-5 years down the line be Valencia's replacement.

Ashley Young has been world class? You're surely having a laugh mate. What does world class even mean? Top 80 full backs on the planet?

Was picked in the world cup team of the tournament. Shut down a shit hot Salah.....i'd say that's world class. Just face it he's doing the business and playing well.

Was he? He's not in the official FIFA Team of the Tournament.

Young has been consistant, and works well for Jose as a defensive fullback at times. He has a good attitude and work rate, and does thing pretty simple.

All this being said, I don't think he's world class. Pretty good, but still not class. I would prefer him on the right though, as him having to get it on his right foot all the time doesn't do him any favors.

I would have thought that you had learned from last year's meltdowns but apparently not. Both of the players that you didn't want, and even promised to quit following United for, were if not top 3 then top 5 performing players last year.
In a team that did nothing.

There are plenty of reasons why fans get annoyed about the fees we pay. No other club gets ripped off like us.

Malcom was bought for 41m euros, Mahrez for £60m. We are linked with a player who will cost more than both and is 2 years older than Mahrez, Malcom is only 21. Can you say Willian is that much better than those two?

Had we bought one of them at a much cheaper price there is more funds in our transfer budget to get more players in. If we start paying £65m for Maguire what will happen the next time we go for a player abroad? They will want more and more and more because we keep paying too much.
You will never understand football finances unless your working inside the game. Thats why its probably better to enjoy the player (or not) than moan about money.

75m for a near 30 year old winger who disappears from games 60% of the time...good old Mourinho.

At least with Barcelona it was a bit more understandable given the allegations of shady business dealings between their club president Bartomeu and Willians rep,Kia Joorabchain who also represents the likes of Coutinho, Arthur, Malcom and Paulinho who have all joined them in recent seasons.

With United it seems like yet another panic buy with diminishing returns that will look even worse in 2 years.

All the while we'll likely see Chelsea replace him with a young and exciting talent like Leon Bailey at a fraction of the cost...fun stuff.

Its not as simple as that though is it? disappears for 60% of the time, different team, different setup could yield different results. Same for Bailey, exciting prospect yes, but doesnt mean he is going to flourish at Chelsea. I agree the 75m fee is over the top but thats only whats being reported. If we went and got Bailey and it didnt work out people would complain that we should have got someone more experienced, like people are already doing with Dalot.

Improving from 5th to 2nd is 'nothing'?

That's progress if you ask me and it means those players helped us to get better.
We were also rans in a poor scramble of sides playing for the top 4 spots all the while playing the dullest, most soul destroying football of any team in the league, I don't call that progress personally, but each to their own.

You must be appalled at the price United are paying considering how much you had to say about the price Liverpool paid for Van Dijk?

It's Liverpools fault really. Inflated the market by paying too much for VVD out of desperation.

Maguire would be a cracking signing though.

Theo to Real Sociedad

I really like him from the little I’ve seen. Remember him running us ragged in pre-season last year. Surprised to see both him and Hakimi depart this summer, I thought both were very good prospects.

The market was already inflated before we signed Van Dijk. Guardiola paid 50 million for Stones which bumped CB fees up, and that Neymar deal blew everything up.

I think Maguire is a decent CB but I didn’t think CB was an area United needed to spend at least 65 million on going into the window. Genuinely thought you’d end up signing Bale.

Oh man it's so depressing being linked with Willian and Maguire for crazy money . Might as well go big on De Ligt and Pulisic and take a chance on them . I am sure their wages will be lower than Willian and Maguire's .

If that is not enough then there is this ridiculous rumour of us signing Harry Kane as if there weren't enough jokes being made on United's transfer strategy .

Hopefully the management has planned something better and a surprise or two awaits us by the end of the transfer window . I was kind of hoping Ribalta was working on some surprise signings but the surprise ended up being that he himself is leaving the club so it will be an intriguing end to the transfer window .

I had many expectations. I even imagined him in some more advanced position.
His problem is that it is impossible to compete against Marcelo and even more if he contributes so little when he plays.
The problem now is to cover that position of left back substitute.

It's both City's fault and yours. Obviously. We could do with strengthening at CB though. Ours are always injured. And half of ours couldn't pass if their life depended on it. However, fullback and RW are more pressing issues.

I would be really happy with Willian and actually don't care about the pricetag. He is a superb player, who would fix our problems on the right wing straight away. His output isn't something that concerns me at all, as goals and assists don't paint the whole picture. All of us have seen him play countless times and I remember him bossing the game in the first half last season against us at Old Trafford, cutting through our midfield with ease. Some people claiming we could get player x for the same amount are wildely guessing and basing their information on some dubious newspaper headlines.

If we are really interested, I could see him making a similiar impact as Matic did. Most of the users on the Caf didn't want him as well and we know how that turned out. Give the managers the players he wants, everything else doesn't make any sense.

He can do better than Wolves surely. In the Premier League alone Arsenal or Everton should be all over him, and he'd do well at somewhere like Roma.
Wolves are buying well. They could be at the same footballing level as Everton by next season, if not sooner.

So then it’s United’s fault that we had to pay what we did for Keita, because you paid 89 million for Pogba?
