I appreciate his positive aspects, but I'm not convinced he is the quickest or the best reader of the game or tackler. I think he'd be found out in regular high quality games, e.g. including the Champions League and whilst he might be less error prone than Jones, would he be as quick to the tackle as Smalling or Jones.
I've not see the leadership aspect either.
I have no problem him coming, but only if we somehow get the right price for what we have, otherwise it will seem like a very over priced upgrade when other areas are glaring in need, such as RW.
I'm actually less concerned about LB and RB as I think we are just riding out one more year on each. Young has been on reasonable form enough to be worthy of another season in the mix. The gamble as ever is does Shaw do enough to cover the rest of the mix and ideally to become the long term staple.
On RB I think we have Dalot to replace Valencia so similar situation. The key here is can be step up quick enough. Otherwise we'll need another stop gap at some point, so say a 29 year old for the right price.
