Didn't Reina literally just join AC Milan on a free? That is awful business if you're having to pay for him.
He did, yes. Very strange.

Bailey every time. If we spunk £70 fecking million on Willian then we have officially lost the plot.

Havent seen Bailey to comment on that but £70m on a 30 year old that although a good player isnt a world star or world class in all honesty would stink. Even more annoyingly personally would be signing a 4th ex Mourinho and 3rd ex Chelsea player to the tune of £200m not including wages.
And taking away Lukaku who I wont even give my impressions of the average age of the other three when signed would about 32/33 years old and probaly about 20% of his signings in 3 years would be ex-players, all sounds poor to me

It would be utter madness to spend that amount of money on such a limited player that probably only has 2-3 years at the top left.

Let’s hope that the rumours about him staying at Chelsea are true.

Bailey in Chelsea fan and bound to us since we all know about him. No doubt he will come here now or next year.

Yeah, the verbal agreement is going to be subject to a contract, therefore it doesn't count.
Agree, a verbal agreement would be nowhere near enough in the circumstances of a transfer of a player between clubs.

I still think this Alderweireld/Martial swap is gonna happen on deadline day.

Make sense for both teams. Ship out the unhappy players.

For fecks sake if that actually happens, Chelsea getting Bailey, and we get Willian or some other near 30 yr old, then I'm done for the season. Seriously a club of our size should be all in for a talent like Bailey, I just refuse to accept Mourinho not being interested especially with Martial wanting to go, why not just sell him and use the money to get Bailey? The guy is 20 years old and with hard work has a great future ahead of him but Mourinho looks past that and wants Willian? If there was a choice of getting Willian Perisic or Bailey right now, I would get Bailey 10/10 times.

I agree. I kind of dont get the people saying we need to sign an older right winger so it doesnt hold Chong/Gomes back. We already have a decent one in lingard although he isnt an out and out rw and an older rw in Mata who again isnt a rw. But bar Bale....Perisic no lw, Rebic no not a decent player who was good in the world cup, WIllian no not another ruddy Chelsea player especially the prices being quoted.

For me its Bale of bust OR sign one of these talented yougner players, Malcom would have been a good buy for less than £40....if that blocks the likes of Chong then it means he isnt good enough as we have signed a better player for a good fee.

Funny the fickle reactions though, people saying why arent we in for this great young talent....we do it with Dalot and its all we need someone ready now not a youngster blah de blah

Woodward needs to go if he doesn't step it up, Glazers too. Their ownership has been nothing but cancerous on the club, Fergie covered for them but those days are gone.

Lads, it's Spurs. I'd be okay with that.

What I don't get is the Vidal links. We have Pogba, Matic, Fred, Fellaini, and Herrera. Also, Perrera, McTominay who are looking to be in the fold. I don't see Matic going anywhere. Herrera could still be sold. Has he been linked with a move?

How many LW do we actually need?

I mean, this statement isn't exactly true. Whilst a verbal agreement can be a valid legal contract, there are a number of issues to do with lack of specificity, certainty, proof etc that would dictate a signed written contract is far better. A written agreement, even if unsigned, can be deemed valid by course of action but a verbal agreement is far easier to rebut.

Would need a consideration to have been paid for the verbal agreement to be considered a binding contract I should think. In most negotiations it’s common to “agree” the offer with multiple vendors and then choose the best one. Unless something has been paid, can’t see how this would be a binding contract.

So basically, Malcom got offered to us at the last minute but we weren't interested. Gelson went to Atletico but thats okay because I wouldn't want us to be sued by Sporting. That leaves Bailey and Willian. Both have pros and cons. Willian would be ideal to give Chong a few more years to develop. Bailey is one for the future himself so would likely mean Chong would never get a chance. I just hope we'll get someone. Anyone really. We need a decent RW.

Bailey hasn’t really played and done well enough as RW to be bought. If we were in for him, people would (I probably would for sure) be screaming about yet another LW being brought in and that we’re not in the position where we can spunk out massive wads of cash on a player that “may” work out as RW.

I thought Eric Bailey was United's "commanding CB?" I didn't pay any attention to him last season but remember The Caf going crazy for him during his first season.

Style wise he is, it’s just he’s inconsistent and very rough around the edges. Seems to be injury prone as well

He has had some time off through injury and also seems to have fallen out of favour somewhat (is being mentioned by Mourinho in the same breath as Andreas Pereira as players who will benefit from a going on a tour where none of the first team are around). He's also still too young/inexperienced to really be considered a 'leader' at the back. He can't head the ball either, so needs to be paired with a bigger, more dominant CB.

He's great when he's playing well, but he's a bit too erratic on his off days. He's much more of a destroyer also that's good with a high line, inside the box he's not the best unfortunately.

He was really good in the first season, but injured for the most part of last season.

Eric is not the commanding defender. He is strong, athletic and has no fear going into tackles (more like a faster version of Vidic). I don't think he is the right player to organize a defense or be a captain (at least not for now). Getting someone like Toby or Bonucci would be ideal for him though as we would have something similar to Vidic Rio partnership.

He'll be first choice next season. Problem is he lacks a bit on the technical side, so he's not the best at passing the ball out from the back. Add to that, we only really had Blind who could pass comfortably there but never played as a CB (bar maybe Lindelof who was suspect defensively). So, on paper Alderweireld's passing ability alongside Bailly's pace and aggressive pressing should make a solid match-up.

Bailey is that young winger from Leverkussen but anyway. Commanding CB? Bailly is known for his ability on the ball and tackling. Can't recall people referring to him as a commanding CB. He was plagued by injuries last season, we'll see how he gets on this season. Talented defender no doubt but still has to improve certain aspects of his game.

That would be a dreadful deal for us. Would prefer Maguire and ship Martial to Juve for Sandro, if he is determined to leave.

Makes no sense. A young talented player with massive potential for a proven defender who is arguably heading towards end part of career and value.

Martial has a potential future value that could be heading to £200m so £90m is the minimum you'd want and Alderweirld can't be more than £50m at a fair price. So its £40m minimum add on I'd want to see.

Well, respect your opinion and I would agree in being over rated in terms of the crazy price Barcelona paid for a player who was a raw talent far from the finished article. But in todays markets £40m, anything more isnt worth it? I mean he isnt with the potential of Mbappe for example liek Barcelona paid, but Rashford, Martial as examples he has just as much and in my opinion a lot more ability than and rightly or wrong £40m wouldnt be anywhere near enough to buy any of those two

Oh my we are haggling over the price tag :) I guess part of my low evaluation is that I rate him well beneath Mbappé and even Martial for that matter.
But yes I take your general point. I mean if we are asking for over 60mil for Martial from potential suitors, and add to that the fact that the hype around Dembélé is a lot higher, it wouldn't be abnormal that a high price is quoted for the lad.
Obviously I can get behind signing a potential explosive talent, but I will keep that for when and if he is signed. Until then I will stick to "there is no value in this deal" :)

As did Ronaldo. Selling Martial at 22 in exchange for a 29 year old player who we don't need would therefore be terrible business for us.

Absolutely agree. He should be sold abroad or for a massively inflated fee to a direct competitor. Dealing with Levy and Spurs is so unnecessary. There are plenty of other players to buy who has the same profile.

I wouldn't bet on it.

We need CB. Of course still bad business, but it's not going happen.

awful.

Unless its someone like RVP I dont like spending big money on any 29 year old. Of course we have a manager who probably doesnt expect to be here in 3 years so he probably doesnt care

We've bought one the past two summer windows. Our big deficit is still in the goals scored department (38 fewer than City). A CB would therefore be far lower on the priority list.

I'd be very surprised if he wasn't tbh. According to Mourinho, Bailly was dropped to get the other CB's playing time so that they could make the World cup. Bailly will be straight back into the team come next season imo.

A lot of our fans hyped him up. He has some good qualities but he is far from the finished article, he can be rash at times and he is poor in the air also.
