Maybe Ousmane Dembele is the surprise Zlatan was talking about . Mourinho has seen in the World Cup the coordination between Pogba and Mbappe . Pogba using the pace of Mbappe running in from the right wing . It's the perfect counter attack weapon and one which Mourinho used to use in his earlier stints . We have zero chance of signing Mbappe . Dembele is the next best pacey option with prior experience of playing with Pogba . Dembele is a proper right wing forward which our squad currently lack . So it's possible that considering his current status in Barca along with arrival of Malcolm he might be a available for the right price which is probably upwards of 100 million euros atleast .

Hence this might be the reason why suddenly United management have softened their stand on selling Martial and put a price tag on him . I guess use money from sale of Martial to fund a move for Dembele .

This all kind of makes sense and sounds sensible and believable.......then I rethink....Bareclona sign a good right winger, within hours there is a story of Dembele being unhappy, when he is still on holiday and Barca jumped in at the last minute for the deal too

I disagree. Not seen him do a single thing of note. Even the French team benched that idea lol

Well he had a bad injury start of last year. He also had Mbappe ahead of him in a squad with no Martial or Kingsley Coman, hardly a disgrace being on that bench.
Although end product was pretty raw he was very good at Dortmund in his last year there before the injury

Schurrle is not the best. Past it actually. That will be proved next year. Good name but he’s done.

Of course he is not the best - but he is still a very good player. And combined with Sessegnon, Cairney, Seri and Johansen - that certainly looks much more mid-table than relegation. If they can improve their defense a little bit - they should avoid relegation battles easily

Not sure why Roma are wasting their time thinking about seeking legal action. It's only about the hundredth time Barcelona or Madrid (funny how they throw temper tantrums when transfer dealings don't go their way) have done something like this and feck all has been done about it.

Roma is simply trying to save face through an idiotic distraction so people don't think they are morons. A few days of yaddayadda till it's forgotten and buried by the ton of weekly news. Politics 101

I’m not sure he is still a very good player to be honest. As I say, good name and CV but now...

It's been happening for years, I think Lee Grant is the first time we've done it. Much better keeper than Green though.

Lee Grant is actually a fairly good keeper - not top class of course, but I would have had no worries if Grant had to play at Anfield. But signing a 38 year old who hasnt played in 15 months...now that is strange

A verbal agreement is as good as a written one legally, but where they might struggle is the fact it's pending a medical, so I'm not sure what statute would suggest. My guess is its not considered a contract until the medical is finished and agreement is made after that point

Also what damages could they insist on, a marginal increase in value....they almost certainly couldn't insist on the original contract being honoured as the player could reject it.

This surprises me massively

Without wanting to take the discussion off topic, in British law (and I therefore assume European law), verbal agreements are considered legally binding contracts, just as a written agreement is, the difficulty of course is proving a verbal agreement.

To bring it back to the Roma situation, I would think this must happen a lot, clubs agree prices but then get offered more. I would assume they usually word it in such a way that doesn't form a contract, such as, we accept your offer subject to x, y and z, in case of this very scenario.

I mean, this statement isn't exactly true. Whilst a verbal agreement can be a valid legal contract, there are a number of issues to do with lack of specificity, certainty, proof etc that would dictate a signed written contract is far better. A written agreement, even if unsigned, can be deemed valid by course of action but a verbal agreement is far easier to rebut.

Well aware of the injury. Deschamps was more than willing to play Mbappé on the left and Dembele on the right. He tried it, it was an epic fail. The outcome was a preference to balance the team out by deploying Matuidi on the left.
My french friends would have preferred taking a player they felt could contribute in case of emergency.

Watched him at Dortmund after they paid a small fortune, and again saw nothing to justify his price. I find him massively over-rated and only his performances on a football pitch can change that view of mine.
Not worth the gamble if the price is over 40Mil.

Yeah, the verbal agreement is going to be subject to a contract, therefore it doesn't count.

Gelson Martins joins Atletico

Must say, Atletico have some team now, expect them to challenge for La Liga this season.
I dont know why we weren't interested, especially since it was a free transfer

You never know with this place.
When we're linked with a player: "why the fook are we interested in him"?
When we're not linked with a player "why the fook aren't we interested in him"?

So who would we better off with? This guy or Willian? I'd go with Bailey but if Chelsea are after him it looks like we're getting Willian.

Bailey every time. If we spunk £70 fecking million on Willian then we have officially lost the plot.
