Call me a fecking optimist but in a way this silence fills me with hope for some real good news. A lot of our muppet signings no one saw coming until it happened. RvP, Lukaku and Sanchez some of the recent examples. Pogba had some writing on the wall but how many truly believed that one until it happened?
I'm in this camp. Press have been woefully wrong on our transfers for years now. I think we'll get a deal or two in and the press know nothing about any of it.

English club are really retarded for agreeing to this stupid transfer deadline rule on stand alone basis.
Very puzzling why they'd agree to implement it in a World Cup year. Why wouldn't they delay it until next season? Now it feels like the whole transfer window is crammed into just a couple of weeks. No top players really wanted to deal with transfer stuff before or during the WC so clubs now have to rush.

Today's story in Tuttosport front page about some nonsense of Pirelli wanting to sign Messi is glorious. Italian media have gone from "how miserable we are" to "when do we invade Greece?" in a heartbeat.

Lol, does he think he works for Real Madrid or something, there are at least 10 teams better.

He probably means Fekir won't be considered by CL clubs better than Lyon.

Might be he's taking a little dig at Liverpool over the collapsed deal by implying Lyon are as good if not better.

If we are playing a 3 man midfield you need options, Fred is a good worker bee, he covers a lot of ground, he's a very different type of CM to Jorginho who is fairly slow and needs a Fred type alongside him, so not comparable players. Thiago has a lot more grit in his game than Jorginho while offering the same quality on the ball plus a bit of goal threat as well.
Not saying they wouldn't get in the team, just that having one of Kroos/Thiago, Pogba, Fred, Matic on the bench, to sit alongside Herrera, McTonimay, Fellaini, Pereira seems bizarre considering we'll have Lingard at RW, Valencia at RB, Young at LB and one/both of Smalling/Jones at centre back.

Good answer.
I can't think of anything else he could've said.
Our squad is nowhere near good enough to challenge for the title.
The board seem happy with a top 4 placing, so funds to build a title winning team probably won't be forthcoming.

Crazy how fast a transfer actually happens, all this preparing a bid stuff is utter bollocks

When a club are prepared to pay the money, the transfer can be done pretty fast.
It certainly doesnt take 2 months to complete a transfer, as has been the case with some of our transfers.
I mean, look at the sale of Darmian. That's being going on for months.

Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Kimpembe. Weird that they add Boateng.

Forgot about Kimpembe, why an earth would they add Boateng to three considerably better defenders?....unless they are mad enough to let Marquinhos go

I mean that's not entirely true. Some transfers can take place in a short amount of time but the vast majority of them take a decent amount of time. Like any business transaction. We hear a tiny amount of information about transfers, there's a lot of background work that we don't hear about. So yeah if the press say preparing a bid it's probably bollocks, because they know feck all about the inner workings of clubs. But that doesn't mean all transfers can happen in the space of a few hours.

Roma did all the leg work. They had been linked with Malcom for a while and once fee was agreed after a fair bit of negotiating Barca swooped in. Was quick enough from that point because they knew the fee Roma made so could bid higher and get a swift agreement.

Other example of this is Willian to Chelsea. Spurs did all the leg work then Chelsea swooped in last minute once he had his medical at Spurs.
