Either of Thiago or Kroos would be the classic muppet wank worthy signings. Proper world class controlling midfielders. Also would maybe be an indication that we aren't planning to have Pogba for too long, or that we don't have a concrete plan when making signings (more likely...). Can't start with 4 central midfielders, Pogba isn't going to be a squad player, and if we signed Fred to be a squad player for 50m then that would be pretty questionable as well.
But I'd rather see us actually spend the money then line the pockets of the Glazers which I'm becoming a little worried is becoming a thing again after we seem solidly enough back in top 4 (for now). And either would instantly be our best midfielders. So feck it.

Kroos is Madrid's for a long long time now that they basically have to remake their entire forward line and pretty soon defense.
Thiago was wanted at Barcelona but will mostly remain at Bayern unless someone's willing to pay 80m.
Jose has been very clear that he's satisfied with just one signing in the midfield after Fellaini renewed his deal. That coupled with Pereira seemingly willing to wait on the bench this year basically means we have 7 midfielders for 3 slots.
