How can so many of you point the finger at Jose before criticizing Woodward?

It's been clear for some time now that the manager does his job months in advance and hands his list of desired players in well before the transfer window opens. For the second season running, there's a distinct message that his list is not being worked on hard enough. Last season, the Perisic transfer dragged on from supposedly trying to take the piss with Inter's FFP situation to Inter stamping their foot down on a pretty high price, which now following a World Cup final doesn't seem so bad. The preseason press conferences are pretty clear - manager's not getting what he wants.

I think its fine to have your qualms about the manager here, but you can't just ignore the equally concerning issue of Woodward and above.

I can't shake the "disneyland" line...fecking haunting to think that's what the executives see.

Why can’t you all just wait until the end of the window to judge our success in the market? I agree with most on here the lack of activity is concerning. I just think if the general consensus can see it, Mourinho can too and I bet he has a plan B. Just relax ya Barnet.

And Shaw and Dalot...

The article says we won't pay the money for Sandro, not that we aren't looking at full backs by the way.

Valencia will be our starting RB, Dalot by all accounts won't be ready to go until September and will need time to settle anyway.

I like Shaw, I hope he can come good and show he can start week in week out. But even with the likelihood he starts the season well and shows good form. As soon as Young is fit to go after his world cup rest, he will be straight back in.....it is what Jose does.

I'd like to think we could get Sandro cheaper, but if he is the player Mourinho wants maybe we need back him up and pay the fee. After we wouldn't invest in Perisic last season like he wanted.

Absolute joke to be targeting Maguire when he moved for only £12m last summer. He was highly rated at Hull so wtf are the planning people in the club doing?
Let’s be honest, I hate to admit this but, Liverpool’s transfer business is making us look like amateurs right now - in the last year...Salah, Robertson, Ox, VVD, Keita, Fabinho, Alisson all look quality additions addressing weaknesses in their squad. Our business seems quite chaotic in comparison.

It’s funny that Jose is so quick to point out the recent history of the club when he’s using our Champions League record to question why we were all so angry at that shit-show against Sevilla. As though we expect too much (excuses for his own failings)

Yet, he ignores the fact we’ve consistently had better full-backs and a better CB pairing than what we currently have but he seems content with it. This is the same club who’ve had Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Neville, Irwin, Stam even fecking Rafael and Silvestre in the recent enough past - yet he’s content with Young and Valencia and Jones and Smalling?

I’ll accept we are spoilt by success and it’s unreasonable to expect to be winning the Champions League straight away, but tolerating so much deadwood is just lowering the standard completely. The standard at this club has gone.

So we should have paid £50m for Perisic because that is what Inter wanted? Give over, he was never worth that money. And in a position we had two young players trying to establish themselves. He’s a good player at best.

Jose clearly likes Young at LB, hasn’t identified RW as a weakness since he joined and after signing 2 CB looks like he wants another. Why?

Crux of the issue: we shouldn't have pissed them off low balling trying to take advantage of their ffp issue. We might have been able to negotiate afterwards if it weren't for that.

Is it not somewhat concerning that Jose has signed two CB's and yet we're still prioritising another one? We'll have 6 CB's ffs

Maguire would be a good signing and would mean one of Smalling/Jones get less game time which is good with me.

Our priority is spending £65m on a CB who was sold for £12m a year ago. Our club is managed by knob heads

Maguire for £65 million, even we aren't that stupid, that would make stones look like a bargain. Fake rumours.

Clear briefing on Maguire, as expected when Hirst jumped the gun a few hours ago and released the embargoed info only to delete it shortly afterwards.

Looks like the media have been briefed.

I wouldn´t be happy about that at all. I like Maguire and I think he is a good center back, however I don´t think he is that much better than your current CBs to make a real difference. Also, as he seems to be very expensive it would be far better to go for Alderweireld who is one of the best defenders of the PL and should cost a similar amount.

Also, full back (especially a left back who can cross with his left foot) is definitely a bigger priority in your squad than center back so spending that much money on this position might not the best idea anyway.

I'm not sure about this at all, surely we have to offload a couple first? Otherwise we'll have 6 first team centre backs...

I've tried not to get sucked into the negativity on this place, but this transfer window has really fizzled out for us after a decent start.

We still have such an unbalanced team, lacking any real width and have only offloaded Blind so far. I was hoping for more to boost my expectations by now.
