So, it is okay to keep deadwood, pay them a weekly wage and let them leave on a free agent, like Blind and Darmain? We'd be missing out on 30 million where we could use this fund to get players. Oh, on other hands, we could sign more players like Toby, Sandro, Bale, etc but we cannot register all of them in 25 man squad, we have to get rid of players first.

We can sell the deadwood at lower prices, like what Juve wanted for Darmian rather than holding out for higher. Have to get our hands burnt if we desperately need to improve our squad, it's a price that must be paid for poor transfer activity the past few years.

Secondly, considering the size of the club and the desperation of the situation, isn't the end of the world to let 3-4 players leave on a free as well to get them off the wage bill. We are falling behind City and Liverpool could overtake us.

The Times have been hit and miss lately. Don't panic yet, though things certainly look grim.

If we don't sign anyone this window, don't think it is because Jose is content. Blame should fall on Ed and the Glazers for penny pinching due to having average players on huge wages.

A number of our players contracts are expiring next summer / 2020, so I'm hoping Ed isn't going to wait until next summer to bring in the replacements as it's very likely that majority of their contracts will not be renewed.

Expires 2019
Mata, Herrera, Jones, Smalling, Shaw, Young

Expires 2020 if a year's extension is activated
De Gea, Martial, Darmian, Valencia, Pereira

Surely Maguire is just a smokescreen.

I'm pretty certain of it. We have no space for more CBs (5 in the senior squad already, and 2 youths) and there's no indication of us trying to sell any.

Meanwhile we offloaded Blind and are desperately trying to offload Darmian. The latter's contract is also expiring next year, as is Shaw's, and neither of them have been offered contracts.

It's obvious by our business that we're angling for a LB and not a CB.

Hirst is tier 2 on reddit and is more reliable than Castles and Du Brun, who are pretty much the only people actively pushing the idea that we are buying Sandro.

And Mourinho has been backed very heavily during his tenure so far, it's his fault that he continually spends on the wrong positions.

Fabio and Rafael are 28 too...I remember reading about them when they were 17 and we pre signed them!

They still look 17. I bet he still gets ID'd being Red Bull.

Considering the size of clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and City, they all have been selling deadwood for a reasonable price, they used the fund to get the players they want, we should have done this last summer, to fund another signing if we sold Darmin and Blind. As of today, we sold Johnstone and Blind for 36m included add-on, could increase to 50m+ if we sold Dramin. 40-50m could get you good quality players.

FC Copenhagen and Roma agree fee for swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen(12m euro)

Cant link anything here cuz im newbie.

100% agree on the bold.

I don't want to call Jose an idiot, but what would you call someone who wanted to spend money on three CBs in three seasons and not even give so much of a hint at selling one of the current roster. Let alone give one of the underperforming CBs a new contract just as he was coming off a long injury layoff?

I seriously think the board are witholding funds from Jose because of the colossal feck up he caused with the Sanchez deal. First he ships out Miki (which was fair enough as long as Sanchez was coming in to replace his position on the pitch - obviously we now know that wasn't in his plan), then he unsettles Martial who was actually performing and looking happy, and finally his massive wages have caused the rest of the higher earners to become unsettled also.

I think they're waiting to see what happens with the squad Jose has currently assembled, and then take it from there. Fwiw, I think he'll be a dead man walking by Christmas.

It just doesn't make any sense why we're not willing to meet Juve's demands of 50m considering the facts that :

1)We sold Blind and will sell Darmian shortly and he'll be sold to Juve themselves.
2)Maguire will never cost anything less than 50m too.

Is this because we can only afford one not both or because Ed has left it too late and only has time to deal with preparing one bid? I’m confused, cos they’re too different positions that we need to fill

I don't think we're looking to buy a new LB, Shaw will be given a final chance this season

Let's not forget Dalot can cover in the LB position too

It's baffling he's yet to buy an established fullback in 3 summer windows. We could even potentially sell Darmian to Juve and not include Alex Sandro in the deal. Stockpiling on centre backs and then dropping/not giving chances to the ones he's bought. No right winger either. The squad is so unbalanced it's unreal. If Martial leaves it'll be the final nail in the coffin. We are in enough trouble as it is right now. Something is definitely not right between board and Mourinho. We showed more ambition in the market when we were out of CL and entering EL than now.Attracted Pogba, attracted Ibra etc.

We must be the only club in the world that gives half a dozen chances to shite players.

"United are set to end their interest in Alex Sandro and instead concentrate their efforts on signing a centre-back
United have been linked with a move for Sandro, but it is understood that they are not willing to meet Juventus’s £50 million-plus valuation of the left-back
It is understood that Mourinho, the United manager, is happy with the options he has at present in the full-back area and wants to sign Maguire, the centre-back, who is valued at over £50 million."

Insanity, but feck it! I hope Maguire at least means 3 at the back as we have way too many CB's to just add another for a regular CB pairing.

He's got to be fit before that can happen.

Totally. As per my earlier post, we have a number of contracts expiring next year (where most won't be renewed) and I just hope Ed isn't stupid enough to wait till next year to bring in the replacements

Absolute joke to be targeting Maguire when he moved for only £12m last summer. He was highly rated at Hull so wtf are the planning people in the club doing?
