I mean I'm not a fan but you can't simply ignore the back-to-back laegue titles with Dortmund?

I don't think he will win the league, in order to beat City to the title, he needs more than 90 points but he only has managed once in Bundelisga 12/12, which would be 2.38 = 90 points in 38 games. His last season with Dortmund is 1.35 = 51 point in 38 games. It is still not enough to win the league.

I'm sure when they signed Karius he was the next big thing and Liverpool had finally sorted out their GK issues.

Some serious overrating of GK impact going on here.

If anything, GK impact is underrated. If Madrid had Karius and Pool had Navas, Pool would have been CL winners. De Gea earned at least 10 points on his own for Utd last season. Without De Gea, Utd would have come 5th because that is how the rest of the squad compares to the competition.

I wouldn't laugh. Liverpool got 7 clean sheets in 14 games when van Dijk played. In games he didn't play they got 10 in 24.

Mignolet also started in 19 of their games and we all know how shit he is.

I assume he's laughing at the claim we will do well to get top 4 after them signing a good keeper. Allison is obviously a good keeper and will improve them but they still have to jump us and Spurs. We finished comfortably 2nd and have also improved with 3 weeks still to go in the window.

Think Liverpool might win the lot this season. Maybe even the women's league as well.

I'm still living in hope that it's all quiet on our end beacuse there's something huge in the works. That's gotta be it, right?! Right?!?!

What’s with the denigrating of anyone who comments about how Liverpool are worryingly tooling up for a real title push? Too many childish complaints in here about posters being ‘dramatic’ and ‘melting down.’ Liverpool seem to have done fecking great business in areas where they needed to strengthen. Gone are the good old Summer days of Mario Balotelli and Stewart Downing. We only finished two wins ahead of them and their Champions League run will have given them great confidence. The third-year Mourinho wildcard means nothing is locked in. I’m not counting us out, far from it, but likewise I’m not going to stick my fingers in my ears and hum the nothing to see here song every time I read about them breaking another transfer record. We have a challenge ahead, starting right now - before the transfer window closes. This is what we (United) pay Mourinho the big bucks for. Game on!

The PL has much higher points-per-game demands if you want to finish first.

A bad season from Bayern, and you can finish top with a good but not great points haul. That's not likely to happen in England (Leicester's season aside). Mourinho and Pep create machines that don't let up in that regard.

Even in a bad 2107/18 season, Mourinho got 2.13 points per game. How many times has Klopp achieved that? Not many.

Klopp builds open teams that perform well and even, occasionally, brilliantly. But the tradeoff is poor organisation and numbers at the back. You can survive those shortcomings for most of the season, but not all of the season. That's why he's not a great league manager.

Liverpool will drop more points they're "not supposed to" than either City or United. I honestly can't see anything else happening. Don't get blinded by the hype.

Thats my hope too..

There has been some rumours knocking about though that the board wont sanction any more signings under Jose this summer because of him potentially not being the long term manager we hope.

To be fair.. He has brought in:

Sanchez
Pogba
Zlatan
Bailey
Henrick Mhk
Fred
Matic
Lee Grant
Dalot
Lukaku
Lindelof

At some point you have to look at the facts to see HE has been backed and not got enough out of those players. Would you give a manager another 150m if you are not sure he will be here next year?

Liverpool are there. They are the closest team to Man City. Adding a top keeper. Their defence improved in the 2nd half of last season. They've reinforced the midfield with Keita and Fabinho. More depth to the attack with Shaqiri. The points dropped by their useless keepers and defence in the 1st half of last season won't be dropped this time. They can challenge for the league.
The points which Coutinho won them singlehandedly in the first half of the season shouldn't be left out so easily. It seems his individual brilliance has been forgotten, people are in for shock if they believe that Scouse can replace him longterm without any downside, there's a reason Barca paid over 100 mil. for him. Not sure the new signings can guarantee a similar amount of points.

For me United remain Citys closest rival, at this point we can't take over, but anything can still happen in the market so let's see.

Agreed. If Liverpool sign Allison, their squad will probably be stronger than ours. We definitely need a few first team signings. Nothing to panic yet as there are several weeks left in the window, but we do need to strengthen.

Liverpool went from strength to strength when Coutinho left. They play brilliantly as a team. It's their defence and 'keeper that let them down. If they strengthen both areas then they are real title contenders. Only a fool would think otherwise.

Coutinho didn't even play for us for a month because of his "bad back". Sure he scored some wonder goals for us but it was plain to see he was sulking. Instead of relying on Coutinho hopefully we'll have 3 midfielders who can change the game. The worrying thing is having too many new players, could take time to click.

Is it possible we have been mismanaged financially? Are the big name signings with outrageous wages over the last few years coming back to bite us? What is happening at United? Underwhelming signings, ageing players it seems as if we won the league last season and don't need much improvement. No rumors, no serious sales of over 5 to 6 deadwoods in the club instead re-signing a midfielder who seems not to know what sport he is playing at times. Rumors of our best players leaving. What a shame.

Heard this every year for as long as i can remember, i aint worried.

All the people moaning about how bad our new kit is need to take a look at this and think their self lucky.

There's a lot of history in that kit. They've always had the red "pompeblêden" combined with the blue and white stripes. It's also part of the Frysian (province) flag, which is the only province that has it's own language. It might not be the prettiest to outsiders, but it means a lot to the locals and if they would choose to get rid of the red pompeblêden it would be met with way more resistance than us swapping white shorts for black ones :wenger:. Just thought I'd share some info for those interested.

Kongolo signing for Heerenveen is an interesting deal. Is a talented player and Heerenveen have a reputation for developing youngsters. Hope it works out for their sake as well as the sake of Dutch football. We could do with some players developing.

Postive comments.

Mourinho set to talk to media at 5pm UK time today. I'm sure the media will ask him for info on transfers.

If anything Liverpool were better after Coutinho. They played as a team and got to the CL final. Coutinho is individually good but him leaving meant that everything didn't have to go through him. The dynamic between Salah, Mane and Firmino and the energy of Ox was a very strong base and now they've added to that with Shaqiri whilst strengthing the defensive midfield area and central defence plus the keeper. It's a stronger team.

No, we didn't, Sanchez joined us earlier this year, Lukaku, Sanchez, Pogba and De Gea is on a 200K+ big wage, Not many people is on 100K, only Mata, Valencia and Matic on 100K.

I would rather we stick to Jones than splash £60M on Maguire.

All depends on how much we could sell Jones for.

Jones + £20m might be reasonable, beyond that I'm not sure if the upgrade would justify the cost. And I cant envisage us getting £40m for Jones. So chances are we would over pay and under sell for a small upgrade.

It helps when they have the likes of Henderson and other average midfield who focus on a quick pass and hoofed ball to the front but they don't play as a team, unlike City. Fabinho and Ketia will want balls at their feet and Ketia driving ball forward will limit Salah's movement off the ball to exploit space.

I disagree as he managed teams with talent which would not be comparable to the big guns, this season however he will have a decent squad with Liverpool so I expect them to push city close to the title, unfortunately.

I'm sure when they signed Karius he was the next big thing and Liverpool had finally sorted out their GK issues.

Karius was never rated highly in Germany. He never got a call up to the German NT and only played 1 game for the U21. He was just a cheap young player.

He is not comparable at all to Alisson, the starting GK for Brazil and new most expensive GK ever.

First time as far as i remember, Loserpool having better summer transfer than United. If we don't sign world class LB and RW, we may as well lose our second place to Liverpool.
