And we keep dithering on Toby and Alex Sandro.
Massive upgrade on Karius/Mignolet though. It he really THAT decent?
I'm not so sure. He's certainly not in the very top bracket. Much like VVD the fee is far too much.

Depends on if they’ve seen him playing for Spain or not.

Sometimes you only need "good" to make enough of a difference. France won the WC with Lloris, City the league with Ederson, Real the CL with Navas. He's a good keeper yeah but not Neuer, DDG, Oblak, Courtois level. Not even near.

Yeah but we’re not signing any of them. Oblak would cost a daft amount of money. He's a good keeper yeah but not Neuer, DDG, Oblak, Courtois level. Not even near.
Matip was a starter. Klavan was a squad player but even as a squad player he was borderline diabolical. Honestly, you can't even debate that. Grujic was supposedly the next big thing according to the Kopites.1. Those players were mostly squad fillers. Klopp did not buy them to be regular starters. Besides, Klavan and Matip did as good a job as Blind and Darmian have done for us, to make a comparison.
2. It is precisely the reason for penny pinching. Pogba's fee and Sanchez's wages as well as not being able to ship out deadwood for premium prices has limited our transfer activity. Fact is, we refused to pay 5 mil extra for Perisic last season. This season, we are contemplating going into the season without buying a new LB. RW position is begging for an upgrade. And we have no proper #10 -- we won't play 4-3-3 all the time.
Our transfer policy atm seems to be that if we sell, we can buy but not otherwise. Exceptions will be made for marketable names (like Bale) as there are certainly business incentives in that, but otherwise, low profile signings require clearing out deadwood. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's how I see it. With our revenue, we should be doing at least as much as Liverpool to address our problems.

You're not making any sense - don't confuse having a clear budget with penny pinching. Just cos the likes of City and PSG can spend £50m a time on FBs and squad players doesn't mean everyone else can, irrespective of FFP. Look at Real, Bayern, and to a lesser extent Barca - all of whom are much more valuable than the rest and just like Utd aren't going crazy. Barca's spending only came about once the Neymar deal went through, and they now are looking at the same range as everyone else.
That obviously isn't our policy - we spent over £70m on two players without letting anyone else leave. The fact that deadwood is still being relied upon means that Jose wants them in the team. If you want to blame anyone, blame him. Woodward has shown ever since he came in to the role that he is willing to back his managers to the hilt, even when he probably shouldn't have.
It seems that you are complaining that we don't have the GDP of a Gulf state allowing us to spend upwards of £200m a season. If that is the case, then you need a reality check...
Who cares about how much they're spending? They're addressing an obvious weakness with a decent keeper, they're upgrading that position. Given their keepers cost them points throughout the season (and a CL), it's a good recruitment for them. Probably not good business, but honestly who cares? He's about Lloris level yet you're breaking another world record..
Crazy stuff
Oblak has a release clause.Yeah but we’re not signing any of them. Oblak would cost a daft amount of money.
Allison is a big enough upgrade imo.
Roma are our new Southampton.

Which is a daft amount of moneyOblak has a release clause.
It's a big feck you to all the people on here who thought we'd already spent the Coutinho money on Van Dijk, Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain
25m more than Allison isn't that daft to be fair.Which is a daft amount of money
Anybody else think Alisson is hugely overrated?
He looked like a Swan flapping all over the place when he played away to Liverpool in the CL.
Hardly made a save in either of the 2 legs either that I can think of.
Barely did anything special for Brazil either?
Since when has that ever stopped them from improving their squads? Did Real having Kaka stop them from getting Ronaldo in 2009? Did Barca having Messi and Sanchez stop them from getting Neymar? For the second time, no one else bar Liverpool have as yet, strengthened their squad to a considerable extent this summer. If anything, we have been among the more active teams in the market among the current top 6.Real, Barca and Bayern don't have as bad a squad as we do. Granted Real and Bayern's stars are aging but definitely not our level.
No more from me anyway. No point in arguing, will wait till the end of the window to judge.
I think that’s the daft amount, something like €90 million?Oblak has a release clause.
I don’t know why what we paid for VVD is laughable. He’s made a huge difference to our defence.I care as we have had to listen to alot of tripe from their fans and wank stain of a manager about money yet they are forking out 150m on VVD and Alisson Becker..
I wouldn't care one bit, I'm used to trophyless seasons at this point. Fact is, our squad is infinitely, 100 times better than when Klopp arrived at the club. He immediately showed the owners that he can be trusted to compete if backed properly, and that's what they're doing right now. It's still a process of slowly assembling a squad full of top players for me at the moment, and that's exactly what he's doing. Just look at the state of our bench in the CL final and you know we needed to invest some more this offseason.Another trophy free season and you'll deserve every bit of criticism that comes your way. No longer can claim your owners don't invest in the squad.
It maybe daft to the rest of us but apparently not to Liverpool with the way you're spending.I think that’s the daft amount, something like €90 million?

£89 million was a lot of money when United signed Pogba. Since then Neymar signed for PSG and everything went mad.
Coutinho’s fee is evidence of that.
Wouldn’t that be a failure though? Investing this heavily and still having nothing to show for it?I wouldn't care one bit, I'm used to trophyless seasons at this point. You think Allison is off to Chelsea or Oblak? It maybe daft to the rest of us but apparently not to Liverpool with the way you're spending.
Personally I think he's off to Chelsea as soon as Courtois to Madrid is sorted and I'll still say the same thing then when that happens.
There's just no need to spend money like that on a keeper unless he's top tier elite, even then that like 3 keepers in total.
