Chelsea should be all over this, they better be anyway.
Unless our board bleeds Madrid for something like £40m for Courtois there's no chance we spend 70m or more on a keeper. With Courtois in his last year, that's not happening.

I'd take Keylor Navas from Madrid, tbh.

I'd much, much rather we paid €30m more and triggered Oblak's release clause. I mean, Alisson is good and probably the best goalkeeper available after Courtois (who doesn't want to come), but he's certainly not in the top bracket of GKs for me.
Agree 100%. Oblak would be a much better signing for ye.

At least Chelsea should up the price significantly if they join.. Courtois cant be cheap neither - So glad its not De Gea

It is crazy how Liverpool doesn't know what kind of goalkeeper they should get, they should get a sweeper goalkeeper like Ter Stegen, Ederson, Loris, Neuer, etc as an example. If they are going for tradition goalkeepers, they'd be exposed to counter-attack considering Liverpool play with a high line.

It's a proper game of goalkeeper musical chairs this.

Keylor in the Prem is not a great match if you ask me. You'll be way better off spending an extra 40m and having a World class keeper like Allison for the next 6-8 years

That's what we are trying for here. Same with Karius, but he was shit.

It's really only Mignolet who is an absolute abomination.

They mean business. If they get him their transfer window was very very good.

All of their signings under Klopp have been successes bar Karius. Impressive record.

They will overtake us. Seems like the Glazers are back to penny-pinching again. But one thing to note is that though all their signings are quality players, none of them have league or CL winning experience (bar Fabinho who won Ligue 1 with Monaco). While that doesn't largely matter as the players are quality, it might let them down in big games like the finals or potential title deciders. Some winning experience is also a must for any team in pressure situations.

By the end of the window, Liverpool could end up with a stronger starting XI. They are filling their holes .something we aren't doing.

We just signed a midfielder and full back for £70m combined. Some penny pinching that is.

Still think there will be a lot of in's and out's at Chelsea in the coming weeks. Think Courtois & Willian will go. Think Drinkwater will go. Think RLC will go on loan again. Now even rumors Cahill may go which I think is for the best. Hazard I think will stay simply because there wouldn't be enough time to replace him and I doubt Real Madrid will cough up the 200m we would hopefully demand for him.

Biggest questions in regards to incomings is striker for me. We surely cannot go through a season with only Morata and Giroud again. Batshuayi won't return only to sit on the bench again. Higuain seems like a huge risk.
Do you think Hazard will leave? I expect him to but Madrid will have to pay top dollar.

Who knows what we are doing! WC just finished we will sign 1 or 2 more players

I think that's my issue at this very moment. The fact we're inching closer to the very real possibility of starting the season with a back four of Young, Smalling, Jones, Valencia is downright negligent. I refuse to believe that'll happen, I trust Jose to have higher standards than that.

Well I think our XI could be good, but city and to an extent Liverpool are overloading with first team quality, creating a better squad. Look at Liverpools mid - Henderson, Keita, OX, Fabinho, Fekir (soon), Wijnaldum, Lallana, Milner. Serious depth that is.

What? Matip, Grujic, Klavan have been crap and in the case of the second utterly non-existent, and the only one I could remember off the top of my head was Matip, which says it all.

Also the Glazers are penny pinching how, exactly? Sanchez is on wages which put him comfortably top of the highest wage earners in the league and he was signed only 6 months ago. Pogba cost £89m, Lukaku could cost £90m if he reaches all his targets, and £75m at the bare minimum and both of those guys were signed in the last two years.

Compare our spending compared to everyone not named Liverpool and we're hardly miles behind the rest. It's a World Cup year, the transfer market will always be on pause. Remember 2014, where we only had Shaw and Herrera in for months and once the World Cup was over, boom: ADM, Blind, Rojo, and Falcao came in pretty much one after the other.

Have patience.

Like I said, unless we were to sell him by the end of this week I don't see it happening. How would we replace our best player in 2 weeks when every club in Europe will know we're newly minted? It's too late.

I'd be careful about this mate, there are many top-reds on here burying their heads in the sand and claiming "theyll still finish below us" despite that outcome being a 50/50 occurrence since SAF left in 2013.

They weren't far behind us last season, and played way better football. They've added two very good midfielders, a useful squad player and are targeting a top GK and potentially a top #10 to boot. I'd say we have lots to be concerned about.

1. Those players were mostly squad fillers. Klopp did not buy them to be regular starters. Besides, Klavan and Matip did as good a job as Blind and Darmian have done for us, to make a comparison.

2. It is precisely the reason for penny pinching. Pogba's fee and Sanchez's wages as well as not being able to ship out deadwood for premium prices has limited our transfer activity. Fact is, we refused to pay 5 mil extra for Perisic last season. This season, we are contemplating going into the season without buying a new LB. RW position is begging for an upgrade. And we have no proper #10 -- we won't play 4-3-3 all the time.

Our transfer policy atm seems to be that if we sell, we can buy but not otherwise. Exceptions will be made for marketable names (like Bale) as there are certainly business incentives in that, but otherwise, low profile signings require clearing out deadwood. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's how I see it. With our revenue, we should be doing at least as much as Liverpool to address our problems.

Matip has been decent.

Decent just doesn't quite cut it as first choice.

Loads of people reporting this now. This is really happening, isn't it? We're getting a decent keeper.

I promised myself not to use 'final piece of the jigsaw' again, but I am tempted.

Its time we start recognizing the good deals they have been doing on this summer window. They have been addressing their weaknesses , while we dont seem to be active in the market anymore, these last 2 weeks are crucial.

Then why is he better than Ederson then?

Meh, it's a bit like saying Brandt is better than Sane because he made it into the German squad and Sane didn't.

Besides, neither are World Class. Very good, but consistency over a period of time will get them to that level.

Fecking hell that's a lot of money for a goalkeeper. Would mean that we own both the most expensive defender and goalkeeper of all-time (and I'd say we've overpaid for around €30m for each of them).

Poor Liverpool though, they just can't compete financially...
It's a big feck you to all the people on here who thought we'd already spent the Coutinho money on Van Dijk, Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain ;)

I agree with a lot of what you're saying. What should also be pointed out is that we didn't spend that much on Alexis Sanchez, given that we removed Mikhi (and Rooney before him) from the wage bill during that time as well. The frustration a lot of fans have is that Liverpool continue to invest the proceeds from their sales into the team. They've improved their midfield significantly with Keita and Fabinho and are about to buy a world class goalkeeper. This is after finishing with a place in the CL final. United should be doing more to invest in the future of the team. Yes, we bought Pogba, Sanchez and Lukaku, but we've needed a high quality right winger for almost a decade and we're still missing a world class center back. Hopefully these issues are addressed. I've full confidence in Mou and I hope the new scouting team can override Woodward and go for a younger, better player than Bale. No more marketing signings, please.

It he really THAT decent?

I'm not so sure. He's certainly not in the very top bracket. Much like VVD the fee is far too much.
