There is a Pavard thread but it's locked - hence i'm posting here.
Sportbild, kicker and others report that Bayern are "very far" in their talks with Pavard. Plan seems to be to hire him from '19 for his buyout clause of 35Mio.

(Edited my typo - 35, not 25Mio)

Is it fair to say that Higuain was a flop for Juve?
Bought two years back for 90 million and despite the market exploding after that, he's being sold for 60 million.
Not to mention he didn't help them win the CL, which is the main reason why they bought him for 90 million.

Also don't think it's a good move from Chelsea. He's oldish slow and on the decline. I can see him struggling in the PL
He is 30, will be 31 still at the first half of the new season. It is not him being a flop why he'll cost less, just that he is older.

And they're selling him if they'll get Ronaldo, not otherwise.

Feck off Bayern! We should be all over this. I wonder how much they'd demand for Boateng whilst snapping up another player from the German league for peanuts.

Is there seriously no one else stepping in there to buy him? Just for the sake of not allowing Bayern to scoop up all the talent in Germany on the cheap.

We should be looking at him. For that price you can't really go wrong. Could play as CB and RB. Very good little player that even for a backup would be great at 35m EUR.

Yeah we should. We're probably not because it would make too much sense. But I hope any other team bar Bayern buys him. It really is about time this whole trend ceases over there.

If Bayern come knocking doubt another club from Germany has a chance. The difference in pull factor is really huge. That could only change if some Sheikh buys Dortmund or some other top club..

Age and fee aside, as I said he was bought in not to win them the league which they were already winning comfortably. He was bought in to help them win the CL, which he failed to and is about to be shipped out 2 years after a world record buy.

Also I get that he's being shipped out to pay for Ronaldo but if he was an integral player, a player who was irreplaceable, they wouldn't be selling him.
Not to mention he and Ronaldo plays in different positions and now they will have to go out and buy a new striker, unless they are planning on playing Ronaldo as a striker

To all the people saying we need to buy Pavard, where are we going to play him? Next to Smalling?
So does that mean we sell one of Lindelof (who is having a good WC) or Bailly (considered by many as our best CB) ?
IMO we really don't need another young CB unless he's a once in a generation talent like De Ligt.
We need an experienced ball playing leader at the back

I think he's just a backup. He's a decent keeper you wouldn't replace Oblak with him.

He was starting for Betis to sitting on the bench for Atletico doesnt sound realistic long term. He had a good season. I think Oblak will move on sooner or later and then they would have a decent keeper to take over, with adding another keeper once Oblak is gone.

For that price I'd be surprised that a host of Seria A clubs, PSG and quite a few Prem clubs aren't in for him.

I'm not really saying we have to sign him, I like him. I like one of our centre backs (Bailly) and he's pretty terrible in the air. I think we need wholesale changes at the back, but that's never going to happen. If we get one, it needs to be an experienced leader. If we get two, someone like Pavard would fit the bill nicely as the second CB. Mainly I just don't want Bayern to have it all their own way.

If that MEN peice is correct, it looks like a CB will be our last signing of the summer, if we can get one over the line.

Why are the press constantly talking about a release clause when Madrid have maintained that they will let him leave if he wants??? If Ronaldo leaves the release clause is irrelevant because he will have Real Madrid's permission and the clubs involved will work out a fee.

The release clause still isn't completely irrelevant it sets a maximum that the deal can be. If the release clause really is €100m, then Real Madrid can't ask for €150m (if that's the figure they'd like).

We should look to offload some of the deadwood first. Jose has signed 2 CB's already spending about 70m on the pair....bit of a shambles tbh.

considering top CD are now going for over 60-80M each no...

also with Jones being a perma-crock we don't have depth there. Don't think Jose fancies smalling. So we have Baily and Lindeloff the latter being versatile as in playing as an FB when needed. So we do need a leader and depth in that department. With the number of injuries we get on average we are short of quality.

We need to offload one of Jones and Smalling. Should get rid of Blind as well. Pavard can cover for RB - we will have three options there with Valencia most likely having his last season at United or thereabouts and Dalot not yet experienced enough.

Pavard can also take Jones place in the central defence so he'd get plenty of games either as RB or CB.

I'd get rid of both Smalling and Jones and bring one experienced CB and a younger one who in case of Pavard can cover the right back as well.

Darmian also looks to be on his way.

Well Bailey seems to be perma injured and Lindelof looks as average as it gets, he could have spent that 70m more wisely. We have about 5 cb's on our books we need to clear out before adding more.

Adding to that how CB is currently the priority over LB and RW is beyond me. We've spent so much money on shit its a joke, spending money on new CB's in his third summer window after already signing 2 for over 70m is a complete failure honestly, by the time he signs his third CB he will easily cross the £100m mark on central defenders.....cracking job.

Whoever moved the deadline to the 9th of Agust in a WC year needs sacking.

I don't mind it, we'll have plenty of transfer madness to keep us entertained very soon.

I've made peace with the fact we're not going to get what we need this window anyway.

There is this unconfirmed rumour that Higuain and Ronaldo don't really get along. It's one of the reasons he left Madrid. The whole preference for the 'Benzema is better than anyone else alongside Ronaldo' thing.

Either of them isn't or ever will be good enough to be automatic starters for Jose constructed defensive line. In the case of the former he's way too fragile to be considered viable rotation/backup option.

I'd much rather build our defence around Bailly and another experienced CB whilst having players like Lindelof, Pavard, etc as backups.

We can't sell two of our most experienced CBs. We will be left with Rojo who IMO is not very dependable and the new CB. Then we will have 3 youngsters looking for playing time, 4 if we add one of Tuanzebe/TFM.

Pavard is not a good RB, we saw that in the match against Argentina. Dalot may not be experienced but if we don't play him, we will be wasting his talents.

By more wisely you mean to have access to a magical crystal ball that would have told him Baily would get an injury in the future?

Baily had surgery if I am not mistaken on an ankle injury after a tackle. Up until then, he was very good for us. Lindelof looked bad in his first 3-5 games but got a lot better after that and has looked good for Sweden in the WC. I agree that we need to get rid of at least 2 CB's but Baily and Lindeloff are not them.

Ignore this bollox about priority etc. As we have seen that every club can work on multiple transfers and I am certain we as a club as we have shown year in year out can sign multiple players. This "priority" shite is nothing more than garbage journalism wanting clicks. How this fools people time and again despite the evidence to the contrary is beyond me...

Was about to say this. If this is the case then so much for winning the title this year.

Hope someone else swoops in, offers a bigger contract and fecks them over.

I know it's a beat up topic but Jones has been sidelined for almost a year in the last 3 seasons when it comes to being available for games. He's just not reliable to be either a regular or rotational option. It's also never a good idea to put him on when he still recovering from his usual 2-3 months off. It's a better option to have a younger player who can create a competition and might even displace in the long term the regulars, whilst learning off someone like Toby.

Being able to provide cover for RB is also a plus considering we're not looking to buy another RB this Summer.
