It's a smart strategy by Woodward.

Barca targeted verratti and psg responded by signing a player the manager did not want to see leave.

We target mbappe and psg 'punish' us by signing mourinho wet dream.

Im scared that you actually half believe this theory.

Do we really need Mbappe as the right winger version of Martial who can play on right flank?

You say this as if we don't have 3 or 4 players who want to play on the left and absolutely none who want to play on the right.

Martial and Mbappe have something in common,

1. They played striker role for Monaco

2. They become the most expensive teenager at the times when completed a transfer moves to the likes of PSG and United

3. They won the Golden Boy

4. They play on flanks instead of centrally which they prefer.

If we could sign him then the answer is yes. But we probably cant. If we could then we could let Martial go like he wants

It's true until 4. Mbappe is more versatile. Mbappe is not dead on on playing central or anything as such. Martial fan here is using the excuse him not playing on the left side, central for him. Right winger version of Martial? It's like the lazy comparison between Lukaku & Drogba

Edit:

Definitely we did something today. Suddenly plenty of news about us.

What does your edit mean? Press got a whiff of united transfer dealings today?

Makes no sense, for FFP...

If they have an obligation to buy Mbappe this summer then £160m on his, say, 5-year deal would cost PSG £32m next season in the financials. To immediately sell him for Martial + £80m would recognise an £80m loss immediately in the financials. It would be a stupid thing to do to fix an FFP hole.

To sell him for anything other than above £128m would leave them worse off for the upcoming year. In fact the best thing they could do probably do with Mbappe is bang him on a 10-year deal and reduce his depreciation value in the books.

There is no loss at all if they value Martial at £80m, which is not completely out of whack in a world where Mbappe is valued at £160m.

Honestly wouldn't mind that outcome. Martial obviously doesn't fit in Jose's plans and wants to leave, so I'd rather we get Mbappe instead of Bale.

What, you wouldn't mind getting a much much better player than Martial? No, I wouldn't mind either :D

This is purely speculative and I’m not claiming any kind of United ITK stuff here but I think there could be a degree of substance to the Mbappe story. I’ve got a Scouse mate who speaks to people right at the top of LFC most days and he mentioned a couple of weeks ago that they’d heard he was potentially available and were looking into it.

I’ve got no reason to doubt what he’s saying, he has a spotless track record tbf and Mbappe becoming available is the sort of thing a club cannot turn down, you would expect both us and City to move for him, alongside probably Real Madrid which would clearly price a club like Liverpool out of it. It’s probably nothing but has certainly caught my attention more than most stories the Mirror publish. Its definitely interesting that this story has come out as Liverpool are beginning to be linked with Fekir again...

Well it will be a loss. They don't even need Martial. He is a LW and they already have Ney and Draxler. He can't replace Cavani. So why just don't ask £160m.

Anyway, if he goes somewhere, it will be RM.

Besides, this transfer window is really quiet. Maybe we go back to the times where players settled in a big club didn't move as it's seems to be the case for Eriksen, Hazard, Dybala or Kane but even for the youngest ones there is nothing exciting: are Brandt, Odriozola or Grimaldo also going to stay ?

Yeah I forgot United aren't a very desirable club to play for anymore.. :wenger:
*If* he wants to leave and PSG plan to sell him for half of what they bought him for (+ and inferior player in Martial, even though I love martial), he would be wanted by any team in the world. Including his dream side Real Madrid alongside his idol Ronaldo. Didnt say we are undesirable, but we arent in the top 5 when it comes to Mbappe I'd bet.

My comment only pertains to the financial or book loss, not to footballing aspects. There is no book loss for PSG as long as Martial is valued at £80m.

I agree Mbappe is going nowhere, PSG aren’t daft.

One thing we can squash is that, Real are his “dream” club. By all accounts, he had the chance to go to Real before PSG & turned that opportunity down. IIRC, he might have even turned down approach from them when he was younger, to progress at his then club? I could be wrong about that.

I’m not saying he wouldn’t chooseReal over us, however, he and his team seem the sort that will look at what’s best for his career, rather than just going to the club of his “dreams”.

What's interesting is that the article says "United would be prepared to sacrifice unsettled winger Anthony Martial in part exchange, a player they value at around £80m. That would see United having to part with £86m to secure the deal with Monaco if PSG pull the plug on their agreement with the Monte Carlo based club". That suggests that we'd be offering Martial+£86m to Monaco, not PSG, as it'll be in the case that PSG don't buy Mbappe in the first place. The thing is, I thought PSG had an obligation to buy, so not sure how accurate that is.

Who are the top 5 then?

Well seeing as you need a right-winger then yeah, I don't see the problem.

Mbappe is also better than Martial as a player and miles ahead of him mentality wise.

Not that this is going to happen...

3 pages of people talking about a mbappé deal based on an article written by mike the mailman. The best part is everyone knows it's a complete bs fabrication, a nonstory...and still discussing merits and options of how it could go, hypothetically. Never change you muppets. Beatiful, beatiful muppets :drool::drool:

If there is talks of reviving the Fekir to Liverpool deal then I'd imagine he's just name dropping to get a higher price. I'd expect his price to have taken a hit since he didn't pass the medical in Liverpool.

They wrote on their website it is according to Paris united. Should I take the tweet off?

Don’t really see Paris United knowing and all the Italian journos being in the dark. This is false until they get in on it.
