Would be stupid imo. Both aren't coming here. Bale is looking for more playing time.

Well if I'm correct (big if) then it'll be because the club has been given enough encouragement

Certainly a topic of conversation though, Sandro and Alderweireld for between 100-120m or just Bale for the same money?

I'd pick Sandro and Toby but it's pretty close. Doubt they would cost that much tbf.
I really wish it wasn't one or the other. We are trying to win the league.

Here's the thing every season for the last 3 or 4 years we've been linked with Griezmann, Neymar, Bale, Dyballa, or Ronaldo with none of the above really wanting to come to United other than for money and only if it's the absolute last resort!

As soon as the supposed selling club, where they are settled, enjoying the lifestyle and climate offer similar wages and a new big fat contract, the interest disapates and then united have waisted 5 to 6 weeks of the Window while other teams like Athletico, Juventus, Bayern, PSG, City and Liverpool sign the likes of Thomas Le Mar, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Sergej Milinkovavik-Savic, Fekir, Leon Bailey, Leon Goretzka,Riyadh Mahrez.

Hopefully, Javier Ribalta with Jose are working behind the scenes to change this pointless strategy and allow us instead to start looking at solving our glaring deficiencies at Left Wing Back, Leader/ Centre Back, Creative Midfielder/Warrior and Magical Right Winger.

From a purely personal point of view I would like the Club to forget any more rubbish links to pipe dream signings like Bale or Ronaldo and instead start looking at more creative signings within this window, Men with a point to prove and a burning desire to play for Red Devils, players like the following;

Kieran Tierney - LWB £25M Age 21
Jamaal Lascelles - CB £30M Age 24
Goncalo Guedes - RWS - £30M Age 21
Radja Nainggolan - AMF - 40M Age 30

Add those 4 to the 2 we have signed already for £67M for an additional £125M, sell the deadweight like Darmian, Blind, Feillani, Rojo and you start to remember some of the brilliant ruthless business Sir Alex used to do when he reinvented his team in his own image. A good British core is added to, a highly experienced Midfield Warrior with a maverick's personality and then the icing on the cake, a young iberian mercurial talent who is already starting to deliver on the international scene and available at a cut price due to PSG's FFP agreement!

If Only?

Dries Mertens' release clause is set to expire at midnight on June 15th. PSG were previously interested, but now that the clause is expiring, other suitors may join in.

Now that his release clause has expired, he is expected to stay at Napoli, because potential buyers will have to negotiate with Napoli who will ask for more than his release clause.

This is exactly what United should be doing. Drop the "big-name" hunt and start building for the long-term.

I don't think I have ever agreed more on a post before since I started here. Your absolutely spot on, I'd rather we bought 5-6 promising players who aren't in it for the money and want to achieve big things. We don't need a Bale or a Neymar or a Ronaldo, we need to go back to once we were and make these players into superstars and we'll benefit from it

Except more than half these transfers actually haven't happened: Savic, Bailey, Fekir, Mahrez. Fake news.

I agree with your point though about buying players on the come up, as opposed to elder statesman who have already won it all, but Mourinho is doing this already.

Bailly, Dalot, Fred, Lindelof, Lukaku, Mkhitaryan, Pogba.. None of these were 'pipe dream' buys.

All of the above fit the right age profile and were seen as ready to step up, some did, some didn't and some haven't yet.

And if we're in for Alderweireld or Lenglet then this trend continues.

I don't mind Ed chasing his trophy player (Gareth Bale) if he's the cherry on top of a priority cake. And I think he will be.

Even though there are questions about his fit and playing style, I still remain very confident that Mourinho will have a better squad come August then he had going into the F.A Cup final.

Edit: We just bought Fred. So 40 mil for Nainggolan is outrageous at this point. If he had a burning desire to play for Man United, I'm sure he would have made it known at some point during his peak.

I have to sound off here since the Griezman thread is locked......what a fecking tosser! Feck him and that fecking homoerotic goal celebration, cnut!

Phew Griezmann thingy is over! It was fun while t lasted... which Muppet Ride should I get on next?

Word. And I was just about to go to the store to get some hair dye, but you know what guys? Everyone on here, reading. Guys and girls. I made a decision to not go instead. I didn't do it!

Some people just love throwing shite at the club
You mention some players we should have/should be signing
Thomas Lemar - plays LW/LM where we have an arguably bigger talent struggling for time

Fabinho - DM who is not world class or an improvement over Matic/Herrera

Naby Keita - maybe we should have signed him but at that time Jose was trying to play a 4-2-3-1, Keita doesn't work well in a 4-2-3-1.Also 65 million for a player with one good season is a big risk

Sergej Milinkovavik-Savic - funny you mention SMS, we scouted him the most, was linked with us the most and we may have even signed him if Pogba left. Too costly for a player with one good season and doesn't fit well with our record signing Pogba

Fekir - plays best as a #10 in a 4-2-3-1, which we are moving away from. And also he hasn't signed for anyone

Leon Bailey - exciting player and a player we should be looking at, but supposed to cost 100 million

Leon Goretzka - again, we were interred in signing him but he chose Bayern like many Germans do, can't blame the club for that

Riyadh Mahrez - has not signed for any big club despite being very good. So maybe there are things we don't know about him that are keeping potential suitors away.

When have United wasted 5-6 weeks on one player only to panic buy the last day? Maybe we have more than one team looking at players?

Then the thing about glaring deficiencies at Left Wing Back, Leader/ Centre Back, Creative Midfielder/Warrior and Magical Right Winger.
We have been linked mostly with Sandro, Alderweireld, SMS and Bale /Willian, players who play in those exact four positions. So United are intact looking to solve those deficiencies.
Again I don't see what the club has done wrong.

The players mentioned that we should sign :
Kieran Tierney - heavily linked with us, we scouted him a lot but he doesn't want to leave this year
Jamaal Lascelles - CB £30M : one he's gonna cost way more than 30 million and two he's not the type of CB we are looking for. We are looking at a ball playing CB with experience. This guy aint any of that

Goncalo Guedes - RWS : talented, but plays at RW
Look at his stats from WhoScored.com :

Playing Positions
Position Apps Goals Assists Rating
ML (Midfielder Left) 25 5 9 7.45
Sub (Substitute) 7 0 0 6.15
MR (Midfielder Right) 2 0 0 6.62
He's clearly better as LW. Do we need more LW?

Radja Nainggolan - the right type of player but 30 years old with massive attitude problems. Late night partying and what not. About to be sold by Roma despite being one of their most important players.

While I agree that we should be looking at players like Bailey and Keita, I disagree with your argument that we sign only super stars.
Shaw, Herrera, Mata, Fellaini, Schneiderlin,Rojo,Martial, Lindelof, Matic, Bailly, Fred, Dalot were not superstar signings.
We will always keep getting linked with big players because we have the money.
And Bale could probably be the best RW we could buy, so I don't blame the club for pursuing him.
Also I personally am perfectly happy with our targets like Sandro and Alderweireld, both of whom IMO are perfect.

We are not a perfect club, but we are doing a lot of things right, we, the fans need to support the club than trying to demean it.
If only, right?

Not surprised Griezmann is staying, that fraud on Reddit deleted his account to avoid all the backlash too the fecking coward.

How dare he. He deserves to be abused and virtually lynched and bullied for committing the heinous act of upsetting transfer muppets.

I'm somewhat active on /r/reddevils and he deserves a lot of the flak he would have gotten. Not for leading people on, but in subsequent threads he was pretty arrogant and insufferable about it especially after the Kohler stuff being legit. IMO if you're gonna front like an ITK in such an manner than at least cop it when you're exposed as a liar.

Part and parcel of wumming surely? Odd thing to defend.

Or maybe it's what he had been told in good faith by someone he trusted.

In 2002 I was told by Brian McClair that Rio Ferdinand was the number one target. I shared it with only a few people but I'd have looked a dick if it hadn't happened.

Well that's a bit different then, I wasn't aware of this.

We should stop this pursuit, he snubbed us twice and is about to do it again. Yeah he us from Wales but he clearly doesn't want to play for us, never did.
United are like a guy who won't stop stalking and begging this girl who has made it clear multiple times that she would rather be single than be with him, get over her ( him in this case) already!

The silver lining here is this probably means we'll spend our budget on world class additions to our defence rather than using it on Bale.
Yeah. We'd be able to sign a CB, LB and a £40Mish RW like Willian (though not him as Chelsea won't sell) for about the same price that Real would want for Bale, and their wages combined would come out to around what Bale would want too.

True, would rather we tie up Sandro and a very good CB with that money.
Also this would mean Martial gets more chances and decides to stay, hopefully
