According to Steve Bates

I like this Lindelof kid. Although not so obvious at the moment, I do think there is real talent locked in there somewhere. Give him one more season. There are way too many players that had poor to average first seasons yet turned out to be real gems. He might just be one of them.

Completely agree with this, not sure how anyone can say that he clearly can't do any of the basics. Yes, he's made some mistakes, but he clearly must have shown he is capable prior to us buying him.

He's in an unforgiving position, like goalkeeper, one mistake and there's a good chance you concede.Young midfielders and strikers get a lot more chances, as their mistakes aren't quite as costly.

There are much worse defenders in the team that need shipping out first.

He looks like a midfielder playing centre back. Good on the ball and can man mark but doesn’t see danger around him. His body shape is terrible and this gives the opposing attackers a lot of areas to run into where he is blinded. Check out the Real Madrid game at preseason as they score of it and the attackers start targeting him that game.

That was pre-season though. The games in which he played in during the latter parts of the season were fine.

If we could recoup and get more of what we spent on Lindelof i wouldnt be adverse to selling him along with Rojo and Blind and buying a new cb.

He seems too iffy and his physical attributes especially aerially seem okayish at best for the premier league.

He is alright for few games here and there but after that his weaknesses come to the fore. Might as well invest time in Tuanzebe or Fosu mensah if we want someone learning on the job.

It’s not that, he just doesn’t look like he has the basics

Last pre season and in August against Real Madrid and later against Bournemouth I was highly critical of Viggo but for totally different reasons then you. To say he don’t have the basics isn’t fair in my opinion. Supporters have every reasons to be disappointed about his first season, especially in the game against Bournemouth. In that game he made some “golden blunders” who cost us goals and that set the tone among our supporters.

After that some of you just waited for the next mistake to happen so you could justify your initial opinion. It’s ok because for different reasons we all have players we like or dislike. But if we are going to crucify one of our own players then do it for the right reasons. Let me explain.

If you have time please search on YouTube and see some clips with Viggo playing for Sweden in the WCQ games against France, Netherlands and Italy (x2). He’s not spectacular but he’s far far better in these games then he ever been for United. Especially against France he had a monster game where he really looked like the real deal. The difference between the Victor you know and the Victor that Mourinho and staff saw in these games was mostly confidence related.

His biggest strength regarding defending is reading the game and act on instincts. Similar to Rio but on a lower level. When he’s filled with confidence he mostly do the right things in the right moments. He’s vocal and a character who takes command. He was also a player who raised to the occasion, until he started to play for us. Maybe playing for United is one level above his comfort zone, maybe not. Future will tell.

I understand those of you who have giving up on him. It’s fair to say his first half of last season was disappointing. Not only was he nervous but he looked weak in the air and uncomfortable in one to one defending. But from my perspective his shortcomings was mostly because of nervousness and not mentally ready for playing in the PL. In this league it’s all or nothing. Hesitate and the sharks will eat you in one piece.

The minute I saw the look in his eyes against Real Madrid and Bournemouth I knew that this will be a uphill battle

My opinion is that his basics are there. Maybe he’s a little bit weak in his upper body but the gym can fix that. I hope the coaching staff will help him in that department. I also hope he will shine in the WC and regain his confidence. If he doesn’t believe 100% in himself then United isn’t the right place. Sorry for long post. Maybe the wrong thread.

"Kante, the negotiations resume
The PSG is active to strengthen his midfield. After Thomas Tuchel met Julian Weigl's entourage in April, Antero Henrique resumed talks for midfielder N'Golo Kanté.
... The Blues would like to get a sum of around 80 million euros"

Shouldn't we be in for Kante, if he's apparently available?

I kind of hope we shed Lindelof, to be honest. He's got none of the qualities I look for in a top-class CB.
Although I wouldn't be against a season loan with no pressure to see if he can raise his game. I highly doubt it though.

What so his value could plummet even more!

No, I'm defo in the camp of getting shut if the right offer comes our way. He didn't at any stage look capable of being a top defender for our club last season. I also agree with what others have said this in other threads, let's get rid of Rojo and Blind as well, we've too many average defenders on the books.

Blind has one of the biggest flaws any footballer can have though, he can't run. He basically seems to be running through treacle with and without the ball.

I'd have loved to have seen a prime Heinze and Blind 100m race, they are the slowest fullbacks I've ever seen play the game.

Blind is a very good player, but we have devalued him, not surprised by the fee

If you think Blind is shite - you should start following another sport

Not really, we wouldn't be selling him otherwise.

Inadequate as LB and CB and terrible as DM. Easily gets bullied. Prone to a fatal error everytime he plays. His only plus is his pretty passing which deceives everyone into thinking he's Carrick mk2, but passing well is of no use when you can't do anything else right.

Couple of games where he was solid, but then, even Darmian impressed on his debut against Spurs. For some reason, Blind has a dedicated fan following like you, but I am not one of them.

Great professional though, so I wish him luck. Lower midtable is his level, so the price would be a bargain for some club like say Wolves.

Woodward finding things a bit harder for our next signings. Players waiting until after World cup to decide.

Playing in a MF two or FB or CB, he struggles as not mobile/quick enough but in a team/formation where he can play midfield with more support around him, I think he could do a decent job for some team...... with Matic, Fred, Pogba, Herrera, that wont be us.

£10m is too cheap though.

Blind is a steal at that price. He's very versatile and would easily be an excellent player for a weaker team. Not everything has to be about mobility. He has the discipline and positional awareness to do really well in a back three or as DM. His passing range is often solid as well. He is obviously more likely to be exposed at LB though, which would explain why we have not played him much.

I think he would do pretty well in a slightly slower paced league ie pretty much anywhere bar England.

No he continues to this day to close up his angles when playing. I can’t see him ever being top class as he’s not a natural defender and is not blessed with physical attributes like a Stam.
