I think more like 3rd choice and all the noise was coming from his end looking for a club. I think Belotti is 1st or Lukaku. Auba probably 4th. Just my opinion. Morata has never truly shown a top scoring season.

Morata has 20 goals this season for Real and has scored in big CL games including the final, his biggest problem is he's not been given the main role, at Juve it was because he always had the shadow of Madrid's buyback clause hanging over him and then at Real Ronaldo prefers playing with Benzema.Belotti has only had one full season of scoring regular and has no credentials outside of a mediocre Serie A, I don't see how he'd be ahead in the list and I don't even want to think about Lukaku.

I'd hate to see us bring Lukaku in. He has a poor first touch, he can't play in tight spaces and he lacks the technical ability that the top forwards have. We could do a lot better.

We simply need a striker that can score goals and finish chances, one that has the physique for a Mourinho target man and preferably one that has proven it in this league time and again. You can bet that's what the manager is looking for. If Lukaku doesn't come in, who could we do a lot better with?

We know he's not prime Gerd Muller, but the point is that there's an extreme shortage in the market for players of that profile.

Part of me wonders if all this talk about Mourinho "taking time away" is all mind games. Secretly behind the scenes he will be working just as hard as Ed Woodward on the transfers. His way of showing prospective players he's "serious" about them by taking time away from his "holiday".

Well when all was doom and gloom and jose was troubled with draws. I emerged with a grand plan for redcafe to save the season and make us qualify for champions league by harassing Niall to change his user name to luckymcluckerson and thus reversing the curse placed on the matchday threads. People thought it wouldnt work and made jokes on me but it did and now you shall bow down to the champions league giver.
Hahah awesome stuff!

Have we actually been in for any of these players or is it just the case of 'he ditched United' = more clicks?

Doubt it. He's spoken all season about how much he's missed his family. Looked genuinely exhausted towards the end of the season too.

He is putting all the pressure on Woodward. Very interesting to not Duncan is quiet as well, looks like either our signings are being kept hush hush or Jose is getting frustrated with woodward not being able to sign anyone.
Saying again and again about 2 months old targets shows maybe woodward dint commit to spending money unless we were in champions league. Lot of pressure on Woody now.

Don't believe that for a second, also Morata wants to go back to Italy with his Italian wife having enjoyed it while on loan so he was never an option.

The problem is there is no perfect solution. For me I would take Auba as he's the most proven and gettable. Lukaku is proven but not gettable (he wants Chelsea) or good value. Morata would have been quite a risk, more so than even James imo, both Real rejects. Belotti is risky as only one season but does fit Jose's profile yet is also overpriced. There's no perfect solution.

I'd take Auba as well but I just can't see him suiting Jose's preferences, with Morata I figured he'd be part of the De Gea deal in truth so money wise he was the shrewdest signing and it's not like he would be the sole goal scoring addition if Griezmann is coming, but he'd be a strong foil for him as his skillset suits Griezmann's.

I wonder how Woody is taking these comments by Jose?

Agree. He was rank at the Euros with Belgium with his team mates visibly frustrated. He's excellent in a counter attacking team but lacks the finesse against packed defenses.

Seems like De Gea isn't going anywhere so all these links to their players might dry up.

Auba is more similar in style to Rashford, maybe someone for him to model himself on. It would mean switching them wouldn't change our style so much but we would lose tactical flexibility. I felt that since Ibra got injured we could no longer hold up the ball and keep pressure around their area so switched to a low block with long balls into space for Rashford to counter with (though frequently still long balls directly to him which he can't handle). I think that's why Jose likes target men and why Belotti is more likely and Rashford will be on the wings for a while.

Unless there is another interview, Jose does not talk about any surprises

Does anyone even read the OP?

As usual, please don't post anything from clear BS accounts, click bait tabloid accounts, or obvious aggregator sites (Utdreport etc) who know feck all.

Thread cleaned up a bit. Those sorts of accounts always fabricate some quotes to get more followers. There's a reason we don't tend to allow them to be posted. Only post them if they have a link to source included (they never do).

Jayzus! Monaco are gonna get raided left right and centre. Jardim should enquire about the Arsenal job soon :wenger:

You like to dramatize things don't you?
Are you sure you're talking about B. Silvia, not Messi?:lol:

I'm not talking about Bernardo Silva at all, I'm talking about Griezmann. You're the one that brought Silva into the conversation. Again: straw man. You're a very bad troll, mate.

Unfortunately there's a good chance that by a few games into next season we'll start to have that familiar sinking feeling that something about the team is still missing.

Then I suggest you read The whole thing because it started when somebody said our transfer is as exciting as Mourinho football (boring, unlike Pep's with Bernardo Silva) which get the response "so signing Griezmann isn't exciting now?...

(I thought it was you who started it but clearly it's not. But the point still stands that signing 3rd place of Ballon d'or player shouldn't be exciting as a fan of the club whether we personally like the style of said player or not?)

Can't believe we'd even consider paying that much for this guy. Blessing in disguise if he'd prefer to go off to Italy again instead of play for us.
It was never going to happen anyway. His girlfriend is Italian and misses her family, she'd never agree to moving to Manchester.

They want to get married, too, so I imagine he wants to make her happy by being around her family. Good lad.
