Isn't a Perisic transfer a lot to do with the US market?

Aren't you Croatian mate? How good is he? Seems to me people here haven't seen him and just said he's underwhelming because he doesn't fit their big name criteria.
No, he's underwhelming because we can do much better. He's a average player in a very poor Inter side. I'd much rather spend that money on the other Croatian winger Pjaca.

40mil for Perisic . I doubt even we are that reckless with money.
Pogba aside we've paid very reasonable fees over the last two summers, this doesn't seem to fit the mould of that spending model.

Pjaca is injured and out till autumn.

Because some account in twitter said so?

I certainly won't listen to the words of Twitter, but several sources are linking us with Dier and Keane. United need to be aiming far higher. I hope these players aren't even near the top of our consideration list.

The lunacy has really cranked up a notch hasn't it? Imagine how they'll be if we go another 3 days without signing anyone? Imagine the bloodbath if we go a week or, God help us, A WHOLE FECKING FORTNIGHT?
It's embarrassing . Though I do hope the first signing isn't Perisic haha

Folks, it's been three days since our season ended. Just three days! So why are some here freaking out about no players being signed?

We'll land our targets. Doesn't matter what City or other clubs do. Neither Ed is new to this nor is Jose, David Moyes. I'm sure the plan is well underway and just because City has signed someone doesn't mean we have to announce in the next few days.

As long as we have our targets by the time the team heads to US tour, we're good. Relax. :)

@langster
Does anyone even read the OP?

Thread cleaned up a bit. Those sorts of accounts always fabricate some quotes to get more followers. There's a reason we don't tend to allow them to be posted. Only post them if they have a link to source included (they never do).

Deleting those posts.

DON'T POST TWEETS BY THESE TYPE OF ACCOUNTS. IF YOU WANT, THEN ALSO FIND THE LINK OF THAT STORY.

Please don't post assessments without having watched the player atleast a couple of times.
Perisic is a great winger. Pacey, strong and capable of beating his man. He would add much need grit and width to our team. To say he's as fast as Memphis is laughable. He's one of the fastest players out there.
Yes, the price being quoted might be a bit too high but let's wait and see if more reliable journos confirm or deny.

He isn't a great winger simply because he is inconsistent. Over his career he is as inconsistent as someone like Quaresma or Ben Arfa.

I assume Perisic is one of the back-ups on Jose's list. If this is true it's actually quite encouraging (assuming that we're targeting a high quality winger such as Sanchez or Bale).

Sadly the standard has fallen to where people will now manage, "oh, at least he's a grafter"

Thing is I quite like Perisic, and as a squad option.. really good guy to have in the squad, but at £40m? and as one of your only 4 signings... that would be unbelievable and not in a good way.

I never understand why as soon as some "negative" news comes out, everyone reacts like its Gospel, whereas if PremiumSportHD told us that Griezmann was signing for Utd or something else positive everyone would be waiting for Di Marzio/Sky/BBC

So the surprise that Jose was talking about is that we're only going after average players.
Not a surprise though, Mourinho's second season buys are usually pretty underwhelming, like he doesn't want to rock the boat too much.

I trust Jose and I'm not pushing panic until the season starts and we can see our squad.

But if we were to sign Perisic, Michael Keane and Eric Dier, for example - I don't think even a Griezmann would add enough goals to push above 5th/6th once again. It would extremely underwhelming but I can't see Jose settling for that. We must have a solid plan here.

what a super shit signing it could be

absolutely devastated with the targets we are aimed at bar Griezmann

Exactly. I share your concern here. £90m is already ridiculous for 1 player if the AG deal happens. For that amount we can get 2 top players ala Silva and Mendy as per quoted prices. While I'm for the AG signing, we will not make anymore signings of that calibre this summer, so every other purchase must be as top as possible. £40m for Perisic is silly and day light robbery.

€60m for Morata is a lot of money and somehow Real are going to make profit on him again! I think they'll go and try to get Mbappe with the money.

Also, people saying about Monaco getting raided and this might hinder them. It's worth noting they bought Mendy, Silva and Fabinho for roughly £30m (according to Transfermarkt) and have already made a massive profit on all 3 just off the Silva transfer, so with all the profit they'll make on all 3 they'll no doubt replace them with fantastic young talent (have already started by signing Tielemans). The players they bring in might not play to the same level but they're no fools and know in a few years they'll reach great levels, they're a very well ran club.

Perisic will be a very uninspiring signing if true. Extremely disappointed.

Hasn't overly excelled at any club he's played at and doesn't have the qualities required to greatly improve us.

Leicester won the league with worse players than him. If he fits the system Jose wants to play, then so be it it.

Hasn't happened yet so let's not get too far ahead of ourselves though as might just be a wind up

Let's generalise from an anomaly. Excellent
