Smalling is a quality defender. People forget quickly. I always urge posters to go back over performance threads sometimes, because players who were lauded quickly become rubbish.

I remember when I started the #SmallingPlusOne movement about 2 or 3 years ago, many jumped aboard. We then got 'is Smalling the best defender in the league?' discussion going. Even this season, after a ropey start, he came back into very good form before the catastrophe of an international break.

He should be kept, for my money. Not good on the ball, but near enough unbeatable one on one either on the deck or in the air. I'm curious about these supposed concerns with his positioning too, nothing wrong with it.

Just can't see Neymar ever wanting to come to Manchester. Weather, tracking back, defensive setup etc...

Also if Neymar is fecking about in his social life enough to annoy Barca why would United want that bother too?

I think its overstated - his private life. Also, could be pretext so Barca fans don't lose their shit when they do sell him.

This has been discussed to death elsewhere but Smalling had one good season in a setup that highlighted his strengths. I prefer him to Jones as a backup because of his better fitness record but ultimately I dont think either are good enough

Man City close to signing Fabinho.

Eurgh! Ffs! Think the guy works for SER

Smalling can look unbeatable for large parts of the game and then go on to lose his marker or play an attacker onside at a crucial moment that will then cost us points. He lets his team down in important games like the fa cup final and the red vs City a couple of seasons ago. If you haven't noticed his positioning and indecisiveness costing us points at various moments, you need to watch him more closely. He is the almost man who constantly fecks it up and ruins his own moment.

I couldn't give a damn if he went dogging every evening and had nude photos of swans in compromising positions plastered all over his bedroom walls. He's a quality player.

You think? He actually said he wouldn't mind working with Mourinho once again but he won't be asking for a move, only in case Madrid want to sell him.

Varane is languishing his career away over what, last four odd years? Every summer he says he going to leave Real but is sweet-talked out of it and none of the promises are kept. They don't fulfil their promises to him but he continues to be loyal to them. We've been interested in him since before he joined Real and he knows it but prefers to stay at Real regardless of the broken promises. He could have been at United last summer if he showed some ambition.

The kind of money it would take to buy Neymar I dont think you can have ANY doubts.

Inclusive of all costs he would cost circa 1m per game, Even Barca have got to the stage with Messi that his wages are becoming a "problem". That's without a transfer fee.....

I'd rather, and I appreciate this isn't a popular opinion, have Harry Kane. His ceiling isn't as high as Neymar's (I know different positions etc) but there would be much less risk.
