I'm sure if we even got the slightest wiff he was going to be sold we'd write them a blank cheque to secure him. Still feel like City would match it though with heir obsession with Barce

If the board don't want him, that's like half a leg out the door. Owners and fans will obviously want him to stay and then there is the player himself. If Neymar wants out too Aswell as the board, I'm sure the board will do there best to convince the owners that there are other players like Hazard who will have a very similar impact as Neymar.

So it 'could' happen
Anything could happen - and I'm not suggesting that you're saying it will - I just don't believe the story. I think about 95% of all transfer stories are largely fabricated. There's really no accountability, and therefore no hesitancy to write headline grabbing sensationalistic fiction.

I just can't see either the player or club wanting to part ways.

Always funny to see people have a go at Liverpool when we've had a near identical season to the one they had last year.

And? Liverpool are not a big draw. Even when they had champions league the best they could come up was good old Ricky Lambert.

Yeah you are right, I'd like to think if the statement is/were to be true, we would be all over it like sunburn on De Bruyne.

I'm not sure he's a huge boost over Herrera at all. I'd argue that Herrera's pressing is better, but pretty much all other aspects of the game Naing doesn't to a higher standard, but not sure how much better than Ander he'd be in the PL.

His game suits the PL down to the ground though.

Not that i feel he is a realistic signing but with him and Herrera in the middle, that is an incredibly strong spine which releases Pogba to be more offensive. Both players are the uncommon breed of modern midfielders who are 2 ways and incredibly comfortable on the ball. Play a 433 and have creativity through the width and middle and we will finish top 3, regardless of how much the other teams strengthen.

So they won the Charity shield League cup and in the final of the Europa league? Must have passed me by....

I would not be against signing Willian if the transfer price is not outrageous.

Would also Fancy Belotti for example much more in case we have someone like Willian running on the wing who can provide a good cross.

Perisic is in that same category for me, I'am ok with it if it fits into a plan to change our forward line up and we don't overspend on them. My only issue is that these are players at age 28 or older and long term I don't want to end up with on overaged squad again in a season or 2.

They were in the EL final versus Sevilla

You can not say United won the EL final yet because we didn't. Hopefully this changes after wednesday

Haha, nowhere near enough. Liverpool are like the guy at the auction who puts his hand up first just to pretend he's got all the cash and then declares himself out as soon as anyone else bids. Tom Huddlestone might want a new club...reckon Liverpool just go for him!:lol:

I would prefer we let Jones go, not sure if we will sell both

I personally think Jones is the better defender. The issue is his fitness I guess.

Either way, both can and should be improved on.

I agree with everything you said. My preference for Smalling is entirely because of his better injury record. Neither should be with us long term though

I hope smalling goes and jones stays. Rojones when played in bailley's absence were very good. I think Jones is more of a natural defender. I hope he stays.

Hope both jones and Smalling go, i think it would be best for both parties to try their luck elsewhere.

If there is even a slight chance of us getting him we should move mountains to get him. Fecking sensational player. Would light up Old Trafford just like Ronaldo did. Feck Griezmann. Feck Bernardo Silva. Feck James. Feck everyone. Just go and get Neymar!

x2.

After thought: what are his off-field problems?

Smalling was beastly for LvG, Jones has never shown that level and that consistency. But if Jose for whatever reason can't work with Smalling then it's best he goes and rediscovers his form elsewhere.

Had such high hopes for both of them when they signed. I remember all those "thats our defense sorted for the next ten years then" posts. Pity it hasnt worked out

What I expect for us to do is purchase one player the papers have 'known about' for months. The rest will be signings we were not linked with until a couple of days before we sign them.

Happens nearly every season.

With the amount of players linked to us every year, no wonder papers will have "known about" it.
