if true (and that's a huge IF, since it's the Mail), then I'm with the club on this one 100 percent. Shaw has been good lately and spending 40m on an injury-prone Rose seems pretty pointless. I'd much rather keep Young/Shaw right now, buy Sessegnon and loan him back for the rest of the season.

Hello, Members and Muppets alike Have not heard much yet but I suppose its time to start.

Is there any genuine leads on potential signings. Or even(this part is for you muppets, so pay attention) likely rumours to get excited about? Silly season is open, time to drive myself nuts again for 20 odd days.

BS story imo. He's gotten another injury anyway. Besides, if he wanted a 'world class LB' he could go for Sandro who wouldn't cost too much more and who isn't constantly injured.

Exactly, it would be one thing if this story was about Sandro, but the idea of being mad over a player who has been no better than Shaw this season is stupid, both are trying to get their match fitness back right now, if they do I think Shaw has the higher ceiling, if we bring in a LB it should be someone with more to him than Rose.

What has Emery done wrong?

Team needs a better manager to take them to the next level for sure. Conte is the right guy to deal with any bullshit from Neymar and Alves, he will get them to toe the line.

Also, a near unlimited spend is something that will appeal to him considering how he's been moaning about the transfer market.

The only thing is PSG are expecting some champagne football for their money, no?

Feel Conte is too defensive for them.

Hard not to side with the club over this.

On further reflection though, this is a worrisome trend. There's no-one on our board who's got footballing knowledge, how are they making these decisions?

Didn't they hire few guys from Atletico Madrid and Juventus to help with these decisions?

They are part of the scouting team I believe.

I think Ribalta works alongside chief scouts Jim Lawlor and Marcel Bout. I'm just guessing his role will be more than just scouting players. Maybe he will be involved in helping management in football decisions.

This was what Di Marzio said when he broke the news.
After five years in Turin, Javier Ribalta is leaving Juventus. The bianconeri's scouting manager will join Manchester United where he'll have a significant role in picking players: he'll be a point of reference for scouting and recruiting.

Alright that's a bit reassuring then.

Ribalta is more than that I think, he's not a DOF but he's not just a scout.

Well he counts himself as a Chief Scout at Man Utd.

I don’t think you need to be a footballing genius to conclude that signing an expensive English player who has just been out for ages with a serious injury from a top-6 rival and a cnut of a chairman, when you’ve got your own LB performing very well after he was also out for ages, is a bad decision. Especially when we could also go for fitter, younger and potentially better options than Rose even if we did lose all faith in Shaw.

Yeah I know, he is chief scout and works alongside other scouts like Lawlor but according to reports he also helps in decision making on recruitment. Maybe it's bit higher than chief scout and lower than DoF.

We won't know for sure, just a guess if at all at board level we are making footballing decisions and against manager someone should be helping them to make these decisions.

Even if Jose wants Rose, there's no way the club are going to spend £40m on him, plus £30-50m on Sessegnon in January. Especially on the back of Shaw having a bit of a resurgence. And even more with them being 'concerned' he will resign. (Though I guess if they do spend the cash, it probably means Jose has given them assurances that he is sticking around).

Until you look at Conte's CL record (PSG' goal). Even this season, they ain't exactly impressive qualifying for the knockout round. Unless they eliminate Barcelona or put up a strong run, it doesn't make sense. Also Conte being strict maybe bad considering Neymar and co. Clearly Neymar is more expensive and difficult to get/replace than any coach. PSG likely sided with Neymar than the coach when issue arises.

He can feck off, Rose has been at very least underwhelming since coming back from his injury and doesn't look half the player he was , should board be expected to splash on him £40m?
If mourinho wants him and the board wants mourinho: yes.

They shouldn't involve themselves in footballing decisions. They are just there to sign the cheques.

Not really true. End of the day board and coach should sit down and make sensible decisions, not just throw the cash because we can or coach wants.

I agree to the extent that their job is to make ends meet and to assess, in collaboration with the manager, how the costs of all targets fit together with the money available.

If they are sitting there saying "we don't think danny rose is worth what you think he is" and basically vetoing his decisions, it's a bad situation.

Yeah agree with that, that's why I said they need to sit down and make the decision that benefits the club. If manager thinks he can't carry on with his job because 1 player isn't signed (after spending so much money) then questions have to be asked about scouting, coaching and managers ability for the task in hand.

Could have bloody gone back earlier, before scoring against FC Goa.

In response to Robbie Keane to wolves speculation.
