Dude, it's about Bayern buying James, who currently is on loan only.

Sorry for the confusion by my use of "us". ;)
:) I was indeed confused by it..wondering and thinking 'isnt he Bayern fan'?

That happens being in the tram on the way home...nevertheless pretty dumb by me, but funny. Got triggered instantly:lol:

That's absolute bullshit. Lingard as a No. 8 is a joke. A proper number No. 8 is a box-to-box player and Lingard occassionally helping out in defense does not mean he's playing a No. 8. How often did we find Pogba in Newcastle's penalty box? I feel insulted by Jose because he thinks we are all stupid.
What has Lingard got to do with this discussion? Anyway, what does it matter regarding the position of Pogba on the field? If he plays in a 2 or part of a three then he really should be doing more to showcase his talents in attack shouldn't he? Scholes never had a problem affecting the game from a deeper role and yet Pogba is regarded as one of the best midfield players in the world.

Getting better and better. From occasional brilliance to some man of the match performances.

edit: the Tweet for the Sportbild article

"Bayern likely to take buy option for super bargain Rodriguez"

No shit, SherBild.

First of all, I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say. Mourinho has claimed to play Pogba in 4-3-3 against Newcastle with Lingard used as a No. 8 which I beg to differ. He was playing a 4-2-3-1 which means Pogba in a two man midfield. Secondly, Scholes started off his career as a No. 10 and a more CAM rather than a CM. He had Roy Keane and Nicky Butt to protect him. So for you to make comparisons with Scholes is a little absurd.

Yes, when Scholes had lost him pace, he had a more withdrawn role because of his passing range, experience and intelligence and not for his ability to break up play. Scholes was never a box-to-box midfielder but more of a deep lying playmaker which Pogba isn't. Pogba has decent long passes but he's more devastating in the final third.

In a 2 man midfield, he needs to be more defensive and in a 3 man midfield, he can venture out because he doesn't need to track back as much to defend.

Me making comparisons to scholes isn't absurd at all if you actually bother to look at the reason for me doing it. Pogba is a gifted player and he should be able to effect the game in an 4231 as well as a 433. In fact we have seen him effect the game as a 4231 this season so I find arguments when he performs bad being blamed on the formation laughable tbh. It's just an excuse being used when he plays shite. What was it at the start of the season when we signed Matic? Oh this signing will give Paul the freedom he needs... Blah blah....yet here we are having the same discussion.

He is meant to be one of the best midfielders in the world, so he should start playing like one imo. Playing 4231 should not stop his ability like it does, he should still have that in his locker but sometimes (like last game) he seems like he can't be arsed. Sorry but for me that is his attitude and not formation

Let me reiterate to you that Scholes and Pogba are different players altogether. SO STOP COMPARING THE TWO OF THEM. And formations play a huge part in how a player performs. His form has suffered no doubt but playing him in a midfield two is NOT the way to go about. People including yourself cannot and should not use the first three to five games to gage Pogba's performances in a midfield 2 when we were playing significantly weaker oppositions. Matic's performances have also been mediocre at best lately. Neither of the two have been playing their best football which is why Mourinho had to take them off at the hour mark.

How is Matic supposed to release Pogba? Matic is 29 touching 30. He's not very mobile and the moment Pogba ventures forward, it puts a lot of pressure on Matic which leads us to concede cheap goals. If Pogba is to be released, he needs to playing closer to the opponents box and not our own penalty box. Pogba does not have the discipline to track back when we lose possession. So he either sprays long balls to the wings or in front of him or when he's higher up on the pitch, he gets caught out of position. Either way, when we buy an 89M player whom you would like to build a team aorund for years, logic would suggest that you play to his strengths and not his weaknesses.

You want Pogba released? You buy another midfielder to cover him when he takes risks and attacks so that Matic isn't burdened with protecting the back 4.

Formation plays a huge part in how a player and team perform. Wrong formation leads to loses.

I feel like the papers had written that Pogba story up ages ago. They probably just waited for a period in the season such as now, where Pogba has been dropped / not in form / we've lost successive games in order to make it somewhat believable.
Yeah, the rumors had barely made the rounds about Alexis before the idea of Pogba being upset about wages suddenly sprung up . A story of a Real Madrid transfer with lots of money involved is low hanging fruit .

I have read a lot of posts about 4231, 433 and the effectiveness or lack of it from Paul Pogba. Modern day football is moving away from tactics on paper to fluid football. While I agree that Pogba is better with a midfielder beside and behind, I think we are incorrect to say that the problem is formation induced.
Pogba isn't as effective due to Mourinho's tactics of having a double 6 screen the defence. What Pogba needs isn't a change in formation but tactical freedom. Yaya Toure bossed games in a double pivot with Fernandinho because Pellegrini was tactically flexible. Mourinho could play a 433 and he would still be ineffective because of tactics. Matic isn't going the center circle so the right tactics can see Paul push up as an 8.5 and the two centered halfs pushing up at either side of matic which is an impetus for the fullbacks to push forward. High risk but also high gain if executed properly. I'm of the opinion that we may never see the best of Paul under mourinho..

Galatasaray are close to signing Marouane Fellaini on a free transfer. An agreement has already been reached ahead of the summer window. [aksam]

Honestly? He's class but it seems like a fruitless endeavour, i personally would prefer Weigl but who even knows if that will happen. I'd like us to think outside the box for a change and go for some targets that arent necesarilly the cornerstones of big teams that are currently having more success than us (despite Madrid's poor season form so far) also like Morata id be surprised if negotiations are favourable between us two.

Modric has, at most, one more season left in him. Madrid are facing a major attacking overhaul. They also want a new GK. No way can they afford to lose Kroos during this transition, not unless someone offers 100m+ amounts.

How do they fund the overhaul though? Some players must be leaving?

Their transfer budget for next season + revenue generated from sales of Ronaldo and Benzema should get them a new front line. Don't know if Bale will stay on, but replacing all 3 in one window seems highly improbable.

How much is Benzema really going to fetch though?

It's a WC year. I reckon if he wins the CL again, he'll leave. Don't think he'd want to stick around until Madrid start phasing him out themselves. This summer seems like the perfect time for a change, for both parties.

It's not really about his market value, it'll be about freeing up wages and making space in the squad.

I see. I think they'll get their hands on Hazard this summer.

If Pogba goes then Kroos + cash would be the best deal we can look for. Other than that, I dont see them selling Kroos.

Would stay well away from kroos, good passer but poor matic will have a heart attack if he is paired with kroos and pogba. Neither defend well and unless we buy a kante clone or find an age reversing method and get makelele in his prime back we will get murdered in most big games.

I'm curious about Daniel Parejo. He's having a good season at Valencia, got a good mix of attacking and defensive play. Loves to have the ball and passes it well.

I think he's more disciplined in his positioning than Pogba or Lingard (in a #8 role). Not that it matters - he's surely a long way down the list of players Madrid would consider selling.

Yeh, a good all-rounder, I think he'd be a decent option for the right side of midfield in a 4-3-3.

They've (Madrid) been selling big to buy big. So Kroos could leave. I could see De Gea going the other way though.

But not by much, most times i have watched madrid he seems to be letting modric and casemiro do most of the work.

I would say he is actually one of the players madrid should sell and get good money for, their targets by looks of it will be hazard, gk, dybala. That's easily 300mn+ for 3 players, and that too with having to replace modric and pepe too.

Madrid are rich but not that rich. Their only saleable players who they can replace while also getting good money for are kroos and may be asensio. BBC is not going to go for much and as much as wages will be saved they will have to spent on more number of players who will want big money and players like isco and casemiro who are on low wages will also want hikes.

We need the Madridistas to chip in on this. @giorno @carvajal
We might let Kroos go if we really need the money. We'll easily demand a fee in the dembele/coutinho range though.

Cristiano is only leaving if he wants to leave, said it several times. Doesn't seem to be the case right now but we'll see. Modric will stay, almost guaranteed. Benzema and Bale might be on the market

If we’re not after a forward I can see us going big for one of our midfield signings £80-£100m.

Then maybe a rotation player at £30-£40m. If we’re only bringing in two or three then this is relatively light spending. I’d expect one or two out to offset the balance too.

Kroos is class but we'd need a much more mobile and energetic DM to sit behind him and Pogba than Matic.

You could see de Gea leaving?? What on earth gives you such a bonkers idea?

Not convinced Kroos would be a good fit for us alongside Pogba.
