Last I saw of him was against us and he was being hooked by Bruce after 20 mins or something like that for not bothering his arse running around.

That was quite possibly the worst footballing scam I'd ever seen.

Slightly on topic, did anyone ever hear that anecdote Alan Davies tells on the Tuesday Club about Walcott and his contract renewal that apparently hinged on playing centre forward? Someone at Davies' table asked Wenger about it at some dinner or black tie gig they were at and he started singing "Money Money Money" by Abba.

West Ham gonna get their full muppet on this summer to buy some new furniture for their shiny new home.

There's a good chance that the striker in England they're possibly going to go for is Benteke. If they're going to offer us £25 million I'd be over the moon with that.

I think the Prem TV money damn near ensures you get a good fee for Benteke. He's 25 years old and has 50 goals in 115 appearances in the Prem. Assuming there's some sub appearances in that 115 early and you're basically talking about a 1 in 2 scorer. I could see 20-25M bids from Leicester (Ulloa upgrade), West Ham, Spurs (if they still need a Kane backup), Southampton (Pelle thought to be going back to Italy), Stoke (still no real 9), Everton (if Lukaku leaves) or Palace (no serious 9). Not sure how attractive that will be to Benteke apart from the first 3 places.

Might be someone like Berahino

He's scored a goal every four games for us this season (9 in 36) so it's not the worst record for a striker that hasn't fit in very well. As you say given his age I think there's a few teams out there who would pay a good amount of money for him still.

That's right, Walcott held the club to ransom with his previous contract extension, everyone had left, Giroud was in his first season and Walcott was our top scorer. He claimed in the press that he kept on delaying because he wanted to play up top and needed assurances in that regard but Davies apparently found out from Wenger himself that it wasn't about getting a striker position. Walcott was just saying that in the press to save face and wanted a massive pay rise. Implied that Walcott's media persona of being a nice, humble guy whose dream is to play as a striker isn't how he is behind the scenes and Wenger's sick of it.

There are other stories about RVP wanting to stay after releasing his letter and the board going over Wenger's head to sell Nasri, I think the latter may have come from Nasri himself.

Hope the West Ham story is true but £25 million seems like a paltry sum in a world where someone like Townsend goes for £12 million.

I find it hard to believe that the Daily Star would be the ones breaking any sort of Exclusive.

Must be horrible to be a fan of another german club - Dortmund might compete once year, and then they are 20 points behind again. No club in Germany has a chance against them

Believe me, it isn't. I actually feel for every fan who's supporting his/her club mainly because of the number of trophies they have won or might win in the future. In my wildest dreams I hadn't imagined Bayern would pay up to €38m for a CB with one year on his contract left. It's a fantastic piece of business.

Yup, I dream of my clubs players signing for our biggest rivals. That's where it's at.

You are right though, you are learning. 38m for Hummels is better than Lewandoski to them for free.

Yep. German league as pointless as Ligue 1 now. You can ink Bayern in as Champions each year before it even starts.

Maybe Bayern will loan Renato Sanchez to Dortmund for a season or two, until he's ready for their first team.
This is so true, it's a shame really. Bayern are now more boring in my eyes than PSG.

Sigh. Caf at its best. And, again sigh, it's really not that difficult to understand. The money Bayern had offered (via a third party) for Lewandowski was much less than qualifying for the Champions League, and with no striker of similar qualties available, it was the better option to force him running down his contract. Hummels isn't indispensable. In comparison to Lewandowski at that time he actually is dispensable. Therefore, I'm 100% serious that it's a great piece of business. An additional minor bonus is that I disliked him as captain and found him since the WC drunk by his own magnificence so it's not even emotionally a loss to me.

Sigh. BVB fan at his best. And, again sigh. Dortmund fans - Like Arsenal fans, but German!

In you earlier post, you came up with this self-righteous gem:

I actually feel for every fan who's supporting his/her club mainly because of the number of trophies they have won or might win in the future. In my wildest dreams I hadn't imagined Bayern would pay up to €38m for a CB with one year on his contract left. It's a fantastic piece of business.

What does that mean? Are you the club's fan or the club's accountant trying to fool some gullible fans?

The point is not how much you got for Hummels with one year left on his contract. The thing to rue is another one of your top players has decided to join your biggest rivals. Gotze, Lewandowski, Hummels - it's a trend. Despite you being the second best club in Germany, players leave to weaken you to join and strengthen your direct competitor. Yes, if your goal to be the feeder club for Bayern, then it is a fantastic piece of business; but if your goal is to be the best, then this is another setback for your guys.

Stuff like that used to keep Arsenal fans buzzing as well.

I remember an Arsenal mate absolutely gloating his bollix off over getting one over on Fergie and squeezing 25m pounds out of us for RvP. Gave it loads for months.

Well.... I think I preferred this than Man Utds balance being 25m higher.

For those who missed it in the other thread:

Woody will probably wait until minutes before the transfer deadline, and offer double price for a player because he missed out on all his other targets.
