I agree, the fee would be roughly £50m and wages on par with the best players at the club.
Paying £50million for a player who left us for nothing a few years ago would be a disaster. I know a lot of people will have the opinion that it doesn't matter since it's not our own money, it's the club's money, but that deal would be painful to see take place.

So is Pogba first choice and Gundogan backup? Or are we in for both? Didn't Mitten write a piece stating that if our first choice targets aren't signed by a specific date that we'd move on to our next target?
Pogba main target
Gündogan backup

Bale main target
Depay backup

Maybe..

Personally i would take Gündogan over Pogba for no sensible reason. I just love the type of player that Gündogan is.

Would you rather he ended up at City or Chelsea?

It's not ideal, but whats the alternative, ignore a great player for mistakenly letting him go?

Painful for the previous Ferguson-Gill regime perhaps; I imagine Woodward and Van Gaal would be absolutely delighted to bring Pogba back, not least, because he's a superb talent.

As good as he could be for United I'd rather he went to PSG and stayed there for 10 years. Wouldn't even mind if he went to Madrid. I just hate the idea of losing £50million because Fergie thought Rafael would be a better choice in midfield against Blackburn that one time.

Some people would prefer that. I bet Chelsea fans are miserable over the fact that they took Matic back from Benfica.

Matic didn't leave on a free transfer though he was part of an exchange that took Luiz to Chelsea (which the club made £25-30million profit on a few years later by the way), then was bought back for 25 million Euros, not 75 million like people are quoting here for Pogba.

I'd love to watch him line up in our midfield but I'd always be a little bit bitter watching him that it took so much out of the club in order for it to happen.

£165k net a week would equate to around £400k a week with tax and NIC contribution liabilities for the club.
I assumed it was €p/w as the transfer fee was put. Didn't spot the £. Yeah not so much then. But if that's what he's after, nobody pays him that, surely. They'll be wiggle room.

this is where the weakness of the Euro comes into play

Barcelona signed Cesc for €34 million after training him at La Masia for 6 years.
Chelsea signed Matic for €26 million after letting him join Benfica in a part exchange deal.

If we re-sign Pogba, it won't be an unprecedented move. As a key decision-maker you admit certain mistakes and rectify them for the betterment of the team. Not admitting past errors is a sign of hubris, a sense of misguided self righteous vindication has no place at the highest levels of management.

At the end of the day Pogba will be a definite upgrade in the midfield role, and that should be the primary consideration. He's a top quality young player, arguably one of the best midfielders in the world already. If he keeps up the growth curve there's no telling how good he might be at his peak. Even if Raiola hypothetically kicks up a fuss and tries to force a transfer in 3-4 seasons, we'll probably receive a higher transfer fee that we paid in the first place.

That said, Real Madrid and PSG might be the early front runners for his signature this summer. The former are known admirers and have the iconic Zidane who holds a great sway over French footballers, the presence Pogba's friends Varane and Benzema would be an added bonus. PSG makes a lot of sense with Pogba being a Parisian, but they might have to dig hard to avoid FFP trouble but they can free up some additional funds by selling current players in their squad.

Hopefully! If Dave is certainly leaving then he might sign a new deal until their ban is lifted granting us more money!

They'd appeal their ban and be allowed to buy this summer, then buy him now rather than wait.
It would give us some leverage, because they'd be under pressure to close the deal now.

Also very true.

Also from that article:
But Van Gaal wants security and continuity, at a time when he is looking to bolster his squad in other ways. He is interested in the PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay and the Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, though United are not thought to have made a firm bid for Hummels yet. Dortmund’s Ilkay Gündogan is also thought to be on the radar, as is Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.

Cadena SER reporting that Real and Athletico Madrid will be banned for one transfer season for the same reasons as Barca were - youth transfers.

Gives us a lot of leverage. Either Real pay through their asses or De Gea could be a free agent next summer.

So if we refuse to sell David to Madrid this year, they cant sign him when he's on a free next year due to the ban? So David would more than likely sign and stay?
Anyone?

It's more likely Real Madrid will buy him this summer, as they will appeal the ban and spend like crazy this window.

Yes but if we refuse to sell what can Madrid do?
I also don't think Madrid can spend like crazy due to who they normally buy. I think this means Bale is available to fund a spree..
