Good news about Depay. I'm excited at the prospect of all our summer signings to be done right after the season ends, especially if what Van Gaal said is true (he's been working on transfers for next year since January).

But the muppet in me will be disappointed when we're all spent up by June. I want a big deadline deal too!

I'd be ecstatic if we get our business done that early, as it would give the players more time to get settled and ready for summer training.

I just want Pogba to be signed, after that I don't really care much who else we get for the other roles.

I'd like if all our signings apart from one is done by June. Let one linger on through the Summer so we have something to suffer + get excited over through the Summer

It's not a proper Summer for a United fan without this thread bouncing up and down with "WILL HE?! WON'T HE?" tweets.

I hope to god that doesn't happen. We could do with less muppet entertainment and more transfer productivity this summer.

Even if we signed Depay Hummels Clyne and a CM in June, I'm willing to bet twitter will still be linking us with every tom dick and harry available until the window shuts

Definitely, we'll be in a far better position than the last two summers to avoid any dramas. I expect us to get a couple in very early. If we can get them all wrapped up by the time we go on tour, even better.

His contract expires in 2019, Atletico don't need to sell him. With Luis and Costa, they both had fairly cheap release clauses. Koke's is 60M euros, though I suppose that translates well to GBP
Fair enough, but if we offered them the cash I don't see why we couldn't sign him. They are a selling club.

We have a Spanish speaking manager, have several of his former Atleti teammates, a couple of his Spanish national team teammates, and have a ready made side for him to slot into and win trophies.

Unless he's a Giggs/Gerrard type who loves the club so much that he'd never move I'd say we have a great chance at getting him.

He does love his club. Plus they arent exactly a selling club. They are rebuilding and doing a damn good job of it. Why lose one of your best pieces of the puzzle when he has no intention of leaving?

It's only £43m...not bad for a player of his quality I guess.

They're the very definition of a selling club. They just handle it better than anyone else and don't suffer greatly after they've sold star players because they find quality replacements.

They sold their best keeper, striker, and fullback last season and have only taken a slight step back.

If we pony up the release clause I think they'd definitely sell.

They didn't sold them though, you took back your keeper, and you paid the clause agreed by Atletico with the players. The last big player they sold willingly was De Gea.

Falcao, Aguero, Torres, Costa, Filipe Luis, De Gea...

They'll sell anyone if the clause is payed or the price is right.

For the clause they don't have any choice and for the price like everyone else. I am being pedantic because they need to sell players with their humongous debt, but in the last years they didn't acted like a proper selling club, they keep the players they chose to keep and sell the others.

And why is that?

He is a key player at Atletico, he loves it there and Simeone considers him possibly the most important player at the club. Atletico are not a small club anymore.

You don't need him anyway.

You know the point I'm making. No one is irreplaceable for them.

No one is irreplaceable for anybody, Chelsea sold more very good players than Atletico doesn't mean that you are a selling club.

Never said they were a small club.

If us or any other club triggered his release clause would he/they just flat out refuse? Genuinely curious here.

So I am guessing you missed the news that Koke and Atletico rejected 3 offers last summer? One was Barca, the other two are rumoured to be United and Chelsea.

I did miss that news, yes.

I do remember him declining Barca because he thought the timing wasn't right or something like that. That he was "flattered by their interest."

Don't remember us ever being seriously linked with him, though I know José has been a long time admirer of his.
