Yeah it's definitely too early for him to move. Simeone has given him his chance so I'd imagine there'd be a loyalty there. He has looked a proper good young defender anytime I've seen him though, one for the future for sure.
Ready made replacement for whichever of Godin or Miranda leave.

I do wonder if Simeone would do the Belichick (an American football coach known for this) move of getting rid of a player a year too early and not too late.

He could sell Miranda for a decent sum to a team looking for immediate CB help like us, Citeh, Chelsea (if Mourinho is done with Cahill) or Liverpool, then let Gimenez and Alderweild compete to start next to Godin. Use the money on Cavani (as rumoured) or on another left-back and another crack at a winger to let Koke play centrally primarily.

Has that young centre-back at Atletico continued to impress? Think his name is Jimenez? Saw him a handful of times and he looked the real deal.

EDIT: Gimenez, my bad.

Played well in the 2nd leg against Leverkusen I watched. He's really something.

De Gea is going to become Madrid's number one. Spanish players just don't turn them down. We're going to put Valdes in as number 1. Hope I am wrong...

Newspapers routinely make shit up. I tend to ignore most of their stuff. But naming a specific source who has a vested interest in the story makes the PdB tweet far more credible imo.

All journalists usually have "sources", usually a guy or two they worked with in the past. Just because a rep of a player says he's gone and a source in the club says they're relaxed doesn't mean either of them are right. I'm inclined to believe that PdB's source has the better information but either way DDG is off, if it's this summer or in the future.

I know Hummels is out of favour on the Caf but I think he's more an LvG center back than Godin.

I'd definitely sign Hummels. I know he's not looked great this season but nor have most of Dortmund. A lot of the players who improved for us this season didn't look great in a struggling team last year.

LVG might be the manager for him to give him a kick up the bum and rediscover his form. He is only 26 and entering his peak.

Surely the quality of Hummels hasn't just vanished, as it was once there. It's probably he is in need of a new challenge away from Dortmund that his form is stumbling, rather than he has turned to shit. He would be good for us.

I think it's just a difficult season for him.

He put everything into last year, a long season with Dortmund followed by the World Cup. This year he's suffering with not having a proper break and preseason, the injuries, the poor form of the team, it all makes it tough for him to get any confidence and into any sort of groove. Given a proper break and pre-season and the new challenge of playing in the EPL under a new manager could really invigorate him. As you say, the quality is there.

A lot of the defenders we been linked with haven't been great besides Otamendi. Varane has looked awful this season and Laporte hasn't exactly been amazing.

It's about partnerships for me. Someone like Hummels would compliment Smalling/Jones.

That's how I feel about it as well, to me he was good at the WC and maybe I'm off base but I think he could dovetail with Smalling in the same way he did with Boateng and would make an ideal CB pairing for us. It hasn't been a great season for him but I think @Sphaero would agree that his performances this season haven't been nearly as bad as some on here are making out.

See i just dont get how is that worse from players POV.

They live in closed getthos for super rich people, they ignore the press. Seriosuly, DDG would get booed twice a year. So??

So, he's an Atletico boy who was given his chance at an incredibly young age by the people still at the club now. You can't get much more of a betrayal than going to Madrid when both clubs are close in terms of competition results, DDG could easily be what swings it either way next season right?

At least Ronaldo wasn't a United academy graduate and he can point at the fact that we arent going to win the league, and yet if he went to City we'd be heartbroken, correct? He has a miniscule amount of reason to be loyal to us, compared to DDG. And Ronaldo seems a more likely person to only care about the money.

All you have to do is point at the other top top players who went to play at Madrid after Atletico, or Atletico after Madrid. They werent top players and even the best ones were a long time ago.

History says theres more chance of going to Madrid from Barcelona than that

That's probably the most worrying thing I've read with regards to De Gea's future. It's about as close as you're gonna get to ITK.

Wasn't this Pilib guy on the Twitter blacklist for talking crap over the summer?

No, people were posting his non transfer tweets where he was saying Fergie hated Woodward and other shit.

But to be honest even transfer tweets he can be hit and miss like everybody.

As far as I know Joel and Andreas Pereira don't have the same agent so its DeBruns story isn't coming from an agent I think they might use the same P.R. company though

DeBrun is known as a bit of a bullshitter, no?

He gets a few things wrong, but I wouldn't call him a bullshitter tbh, think he gets one or two things right. He has had a lot of United players on his show, so he might know something.

Well, if Pereira's agent says De Gea is off, must be true.
Joel Pereira's agent.

It's in his professional interest to know what's happening with the goalie situation at United. He'll know more than anyone else we're likely to hear from, without being as self-serving as an anonymous 'source inside the club'.

The Valdes signing was suspicious as feck at that time, i said it all along. I still believe he will go, CL spot or not. He even hasnt the confidence we wll be in it next year, says it all. We should be tapping up Cech at this point in time, dont know if Valdes is good enough.

Yes, I bet the first thing we do after deciding to let De Gea go is tell it to our U18 goalkeeper. Makes sense.

The thing with this Philib guy is that he has some radio show or whatever the feck he has and he has a lot of football personalities invited.

So, let's say he has Bryan Robson as a guest, at some point he asks him something like "Who do you think United will sign in the summer?", obviously Robbo gives his opinion, then this guy heads over to twitter and writes that Robson told him that we will sign x or y in the summer.

Agents network with people and stick their noses in everyone's business. That's about 90% of their job.

Joel Perreira's agent will want to know if the reserve goalie is going to be promoted to the first team and whether that's going to open up a space in the u21s. He doesn't have to hear it directly from LvG, but he will have reputable sources. He works with players who overhear things in the dressing room, for god's sake.

There's no way anyone can say that De Gea is off with certainty without the fecking Madrid media shouting it out from their rooftops. Sure he could well leave, but nobody is going to know for sure yet.

Yup, The Valdes signing was a red flag for me to. Red Issue stated that Valdes has even told people that he will be our number 1 next season.

Hopefully this Cech to Madrid story picks up.

That's a bit of a tenuous link don't you think?

If agents could know that kind of information from a link through an U18 keeper then every journalist would know with great certainty the vast majority of transfers every Summer. Is Pogba going to move this Summer? Lets ask Juventus' U18 midfielders' agents, they'll have a great idea.

Yes player's will talk but they aren't going to run their mouth to every Tom, Dick and Harry at the club. In fact I bet De Gea is under strict instructions from his agent not to talk abut his future to anyone. If he wants to move Mendes will want maximum leverage which will mean not leaking that De Gea has his heart set on Madrid (otherwise Madrid will just low ball him).

In fact I'd say that link is about as strong as "De Gea's girlfriend's best mate".

Nah, don't think Valdes meant anything. Van Gaal has said Lindegaard doesn't fit into his profile of a goalkeeper. He gave Valdes his debut and he was free to sign, so why not? He's only on a 18 month contract, this gives him time to rehabilitate and we have a class backup goalie in the mean time.

Of course he will want to be number 1, but he has to fight for that place. I still think that fight will be with De Gea.

they are normally reliable, right? They wouldnt do this if they wouldnt have solid information? I mean every day a new article, there must be something in it.

I think Hummels and Depay are 2 out of the 3 transfers that are pretty much complete.
I also think DDG is as good as gone so I hope to be wrong on some of my predictions.

If you're right, the third would probably be Clyne.

Yeah but how often do Real Madrid not get their man? I think club loyalty is more of a fan thing than a player thing so wouldn't necessarily have it too high on a list of reasons to think he wont leave. If Atletico meant so much to DDG then why leave to join United in the first place, they were competing back then, he had won the Europa league the year before leaving and generally Atletico were on an upward trajectory to where they arrived last year.

He could see a move to Madrid as being best for his trophy haul and best for his international career. The buffer years of being at united will probably soften the blow somewhat for the Atletico fans, sure they wont like him but I doubt we'll be seeing pig's heads a la Figo in 2000.

Obviously I hope it doesn't happen, he is world class but by the same token I would imagine he is keen to see the direction the club is going before committing.
