If we can't get Godin, then Hummels is the perfect defender for us. Hummels is a leader, has the height, is strong and very good in the air.
 
So Ladyman says Strootman and Marquinhos for the summer? Wouldn't be too thrilled with that to be honest. Both very expensive, both not quite as good as their price suggests.
 
Strootman, we would have to be barmy to buy even in the summer. Marquinhos has hardly played for PSG has he? Surely we need someone with either more experience age wise or appearance for club wise? I am getting tired of this left footed, right footed stuff. However I would love Hummels for his leadership and maybe LaPorte, the same age as Marquinhos but more first team experience. I can never understand a kid going to a PSG, a big money buy is always going to be in front of you.

Ladyman said we've decided against Strootman due to his knee injury reoccurring.

He did? I only saw the tweet where he said he was a certainty before the recurrence, it didn't seem like it was now ruled out. But if that's the case, then that's good news for me.

Actually he doesn't say it explicitly but by deduction I'd say we're not in for the Stroot anymore. I'd be shocked if we were.

Not sure, LVG likes his countrymen and it doesn't seem like the recurrence is too serious. Scar tissue, doesn't sound that bad.

I was never too keen on him, injury or not.

We have been lucky with Blind, but we don't know how he will be in the CL if we get there. If we blew a big pile on Strootman and he isn't that good the board and fans will be seething. He should be buying quality not doing favours for friends.

Looks to me that he is just guessing, like everybody else.
 
Given that the Vidal deal failed due to doubts about his knee, I can't see Strootman being our top target at this point in time. He has another long lay off and surely our interest in him will take a backseat and we'll be lookign at alternatives.

Not saying we wont eventually go in for him but I suspect that he'll be on the maybe pile until he gets game time and back to full fitness.

This looks like one of those cases where a manager desperately wants to work with the player, kind of like Fergie with Berbatov. Van Gaal looked very disappointed when Strootman missed the Dutch team for the world cup and seeing as how this might be his final management job, we'd be certain to buy him sooner than later.

Perhaps, just hope he doesn't let his heart rule his head on this one.

Marquinhos has actually played 99 first team games to Laportes 86. Marquinhos has played 23 games this season and played 32 this year

LvG has shown time and again that he is not keen to play Di Maria in midfield as he takes too many risks with ball, if we went 4-3-3 he'd want CM's that are careful and patient in possession. As for Rooney, I very much doubt LvG sees him as you do, he works much harder than Mata and would drop in to help the midfield when the opposition had the ball if we played 4-2-3-1, which is why he'd get the #10 role in that formation.
