Seems like a contradiction, the bit about De Gea.

Miguel Delaney:"I understand #mufc will seek to seal de Gea's contract once this transfer window is closed. Long term future is in Spain."

Not really, he's only 23, he could have 15 years left as a top keeper. I imagine most think him re-signing would be similar to Ronnie re-signing even though we already knew we'd be selling him.

A new contract will only ensure we get top money for him....its inevitable that he will leave.

The idea that he would know De Gea's long term future is ridiculous. Unless De Gea knows that he will want to play in Spain in the future and has been telling people, which would probably have been leaked, there is no way that Delaney could know.

More likely, Dave probably himself does not know his exact long term future and this is merely guess work based on the fact that De Gea is Spanish, top class and that Barca and Madrid rarely do not miss out on their man.

Only if you consider contracts in any way meaningful. It might well end up being similar to Ronaldo's, in that it would be a friendly renewal.

Could be a la Ronaldo, give us 1 more season for a beefed up contract and we'll sell you to Real then. Obviously hoping that isn;t the case but its a plausible explanation of Delaney's claims.

For Delaney in general, he isn't as prone to the sensational storylines as some journos which makes him feel a bit more believeable. he's also mentioned many times about the multiple parties involved in deals meaning information received from a club might be their correct perspective but the player, the selling team, the agents might have different ideas and this is where journalists can come acropper.

He was also asked directly about the contract for De Gea - not his opinion on his long term future.

"He may stay there, or he may go back to Spain. In all honesty, I've as much clue about transfers as Pexbo of Redcafe."

Just think player swaps (for all the talk of them) are very rare, however, its potentially possible under FFP.

True, but if Eto'o plus money for Ibra can happen then it's possible between United and Real given how much business we have done over the years.

I think the two things are linked, especially when renewed contracts aren't particularly binding in the face of big money. Also not necessarily just his opinion or at least the tweet doesn't suggest its just his opinion.

Im not sure we are on the same page here - i think most believe Utd will extend De Gea's contract sooner rather than later....but i think those people also believe Utd will sell to Madrid (sooner rather than later). The contract is nothing more than ensuring Utd get a big fee.

Yeah man i reckon there are crossed wires somewhere, probably on my part! Just tried typing out a retread of our posts to find out where i went wrong but got a bout of apathy so said i'd leave it

Or Suarez. That said it feels like he'll go one day, would at least be nice to get a worthy transfer fee for him. Leaving on a free would leave a bad taste.

So we're signing Clyne, Hummels, Varane, Pogba and Strootman, while Big Dave is signing a new contract?

What a day!

Warming the bench

EDIT: Actually, maybe that numpty will still play 3 at the back.... :annoyed:

Where does he play? I think I remember him being a #10 in one of the football manager games, which isn't exactly what we're crying out for.....

Yeah, he's a no. 10 or a no. 8.

Interesting one, though, he's a good player and German media generally don't pull transfer stories out of their asses like the English do.

What a boring window this has been, it's like the journos aren't even trying to convince us we'll sign someone.

De Bruyne is definitely multi-functional, which Van Gaal likes. He's been excellent for Wolfsburg

De Bruyne left Chelsea because he wanted the #10 position. Can't see him coming here and becoming the main #10. Ya never know I suppose.

Signing De Bruyne makes sense.. Can play on the wings or as a #10 and even in midfield if needed.. Always felt Chelsea made a mistake in letting him go, should've given him a chance
