Relax guys, he's backup. Good backup at that, he can help de gea and the fact that he's spanish can only be good for the rest of the spanish speaking players in the squad .

I would like to know how much are we paying him. I hope not much considering he couldn't find any club for himself.

If we can land a CM like Gundogan (who was my #1 choice for to be our CM before his injury) we need to go for him...especially at the price of £16m. Before his injury he was one of the best CM's in Europe.
Still maintain that we should go for defence rather than buying midfielders and having them play defensively because we have no confidence in the back line.

I've already been converted regarding Gundongan anyway, if you look at my posts above, we're simply gonna buy everyone apparently!

PS: The Victor Valdes signing has already started the DdG is off rumours in 3 papers after 30 minutes … scumbag sport journos!

Potentially, we could sell him in the summer and make a profit whilst also in the mean time have him as a number 2.

That would make decent business sense.

Our attacking play is suffering so much because half the time they're back helping the defense. They're scared of going full on counter attack in case we lose the ball then we get counter attacked with our defense.

If our attack could trust our defense then we'd be pushing players forward a lot more and we'd be taking more risks in our forward play.

Sorry, but that's horribly cliched and not at all based on reality. How do you know what our players feel when they're running with the ball in the centre of the park?

We do push players forward. The reality is that we're a horribly one-paced side that is playing a formation with two attackers in central midfield, two strikers that struggle to run in behind and two wing backs, that for all of their credible endeavour, just aren't all that good.

Mata and Rooney aren't "scared" when they're refusing to play a through ball. And Falcao and Van Persie aren't scared when they run in behind and get beaten to the ball by the opposition defender.

Our attacking play is disjointed and stilted, albeit mainly due to the formation and silly team selections.

Just realised what thread this is, sorry. If we want to discuss this further we should continue in another thread, I think.

Judging from the Falcao signing i have decided we will end up with another attacking midfielder by the end of January.
 There's currently no one available that's better than Rooney or Mata... Hell I can't even think of anyone who is good enough to even be a sub.

I agree. Very rarely do you get the best players in January because they're all usually playing in the Champions League and their teams wouldn't even consider letting them go. Anyway, we can barely fit Rooney and Mata into the same side as it is.

I meant during summer, we already had Rooney, RVP, Wilson, Welbeck. Needed a defender and then ended up with another striker. Post was intended to be slightly tongue in cheek. :wenger:

I agree a CB + RB should be our priorities but CM's of Gundogan's class are rare...we let Modric get away and a fit Gundogan is in his class and will take our midfield to another level.

[Asked whether he can see #mufc not signing a CB in Jan] Delaney:"Personally,no.LvG doesnt especially rate his current choice of defenders."
If this is correct, and we do sign 1/2 CBs, what are the odds we'll get rid of some too?

Well i reckon its a must we'd have Smalling, jones, Rojo, Evans, Blackett and McNair alongside the 1/2 signings. No point in having all 3 of Jones, Smalling and Evans in the squad. They cant stay fit long enough to find form and end up being a liability at some point.

Let Moric get away? Er how exactly? United can't force players to sign for them!
And Gundogan, has a long way to go before getting near his previous form, possibly will never be the same player.

Yes because playing wingers as full backs in a flat four would have yielded better results than what the manager has achieved thus far….

Our performances have suffered because of injuries to key positions, the inability to field the same centre backs consistently would cause problems for any team.

Godin and Hummels would be classic intercause. I'd even wait until the Summer for them.

He should keep Smalling, McNair and Blackett and then scrap the rest.

Vidic resigning would be hilarious. He has been awful in Inter.

I would take him back, just for the glamour, and maybe he's still better than Mc Nair, Blackett, Rojo, and Evans

I kind of agree, Vlaar and Schar in Jan would be awesome and then get Hummels or Godin in Summer (we'll need 6 on the books)

Think six centre backs is excessive, especially if you have three young ones who all will need to play.

I don't rate McNair or Blackett to be honest. Not a fan of Rojo or Jones but I'd keep those two ahead of McNair or Blackett.

You forget that we at times need to play 3 at the back, this will always be an option while LVG is here.

When did everyone decide Rojo wasn't good enough? I've been mostly impressed with him when he's played, he's certainly been the best left sided center back for us this season. Evans can go, one of Smalling or Jones too.

People get opinions into their heads and are too stubborn to change I think. I think Rojo's done excellent for a player that has no English and constantly changing partners. His passing is the best from our choice of defenders too (particularly between the lines). I think next season we'll see him improve much more too.

In my opinion - I don't rate any of our CB's to be 1st choice defenders for a top team at all. Jones could be, but he needs to improve his passing to suit Van Gaal's style of play. The rest are both not good enough defensively and are pathetic on the ball.
